Good for him. Of course the British government has now mentioned the possibility of entering the Equadorian Embassy to arrest him, but I doubt they follow through. If they do, I'll consider it pretty solid substantiation of Assange's claim. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

That's widely acknowledged, by those who make their living picking stocks, to be the result of the Fed's QE policies. What?! The guys who would prefer Obama and his "regulate the banks" attitude be run out of town in favor of one of their own are attributing their success to someone other than him? Preposterous! Enjoy the break Dave, and good on ya for recognizing how it should and shouldn't be done. Skydiving is fun, but so are other things, and some of those other things are also far more important. See ya when you get back. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

One side gets attacked for what they have put out there, the other side gets attacked for what the haven't. Welcome to American politics, where civil debate and compromise are at an all-time low. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Nope. I think Reid's assertion is probably a ruse. That said, there's a reason Romney won't do what his dad and the last several Presidents have done. I don't know what that reason is, but if he thinks I'll view it unfavorably, I'm ok with obliging him. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I don't begrudge Romney his wealth. Given the longstanding tradition of candidates releasing tax returns and being transparent about their income, I suspect Romney's returns must contain information he believes would cost him the election. If he thinks they're that bad, well, he's probably right. Blues, Dave Kind of like the same reason Obama won't release his College Grades? Do you really think college grades from 30 years ago are as relevant as details of how a candidate views taxes from 2 years ago? Sure do. Especially would like to see some of his philosophies. Don't you think that's more important than learning what we already know about Romney..that he's a very smart guy who made a lot of money? Sounds like exactly what this country needs right now. If he has broken any laws, let the IRS deal with it. I'm sure Eric Holder would be on him if there was anything nefarious. My high school GPA (1980s) was somewhere around 2.0 and I eventually dropped out and got a GED. My undergrad GPA (late 90s to 2003) rounds down to 3.9. Which of those tells you my philosphies in 2012? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

They are the clients of the social service programs both federally funded and NGO that represent the membership in the homeless coalitions. They are baby mommas and aunties of clients in the substance use disorder programs. That is where I worked and before that where I lived. You fortunate, educated middle class and upper middle class folks have no idea how the welfare class thinks and functions. They are not stupid. These people were born into the system two or more generations ago. They know how to manipulate and use the system. On the other side of the coin, this dysfunctional system is largely maintained by the professionals that run the programs. The whole game is about acquiring and maintaining funding. Salaries are determined by management's ability to get funding. Client successes are reported as a subterfuge of statistics and report creativity. You and kallend are sheltered from the truth and your liberal attitudes just make you feel guilty. Get over yourself. Your perspective is just as skewed by the people you deal with as everyone else. Just because I don't know any such people doesn't mean they don't exist, and just because your job has you interacting with lots of them doesn't mean they represent a high percentage of the population. To paraphrase you, "to assume that such people are a majority is naive". Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Definitely should be legal. It would be safer for the workers and the customers and could produce some additional tax revenue. There's no rational argument for why it should be illegal when so many very similar occupations are perfectly legal. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

What votes do you think he gets Romney that weren't already his? Similarly how many votes do you think Obama gains by Ryan's selection? I'm guessing they're somewhere near a wash. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I agree that Ryan adds more flavor to Romney's ticket than Biden adds to Obama's. Unfortunately I'm unaware of any of it what he brings being positive, other than the general attitude of "lets get the deficit under control", which they all theoretically espouse. I also agree that Ryan will likely kick Biden's ass in the debates. That said, I'm not sure if he adds votes for Romney, or if so, how many. He'll obviously energize some on the far right and some on the far left, maybe more of the former than the latter. What does he do to the moderates? I suspect he drives away slightly more of them than he attracts...maybe a 55-45 split. Then again, he's got the young, articulate, good-looking guy thing going for him, which helped Obama. Overall he seems pretty "vote neutral" to me. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Mitt Romney to announce VP tomorrow (on 11th Aug 9am)
livendive replied to ShcShc11's topic in Speakers Corner
Rumor is he's going with Ryan. Overall a pretty "meh" ticket, nothing particularly notable about either of them except one is exceptionally wealthy and the other has done several terms in an incredibly immature house. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Mass shooting @ Sikh temple near Milwaukee
livendive replied to airtwardo's topic in Speakers Corner
when did the Milwaukee shooter get classified as a madman? When he killed a bunch of people? I mean, it doesn't seem like a particularly friendly or well-adjusted course of action. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Anyone else gone through this and answered honestly? I was mildly surprised by my results...a near tie at the top between Green and Libertarian candidates, and Mitt Romney dead last despite my thinking of him as a pretty moderate candidate. I suppose that's because of how much he has tried to cater to the religious core. Anyhow, worth a couple minutes if you're bored. http://www.isidewith.com Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Should James Holmes face the Death Penalty if found guilty?
livendive replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
circumstantial would imply they found the guns, but not the shooter. This isn't correct. If you find me near the scene of a murder, in possession of a gun that ballistics show was used to shoot the deceased person, you can reasonably infer that I was likely the shooter. It's not guaranteed, as someone else may have used my gun, but it's certainly a reasonably conclusion. That inference is what makes it circumstantial. If my fingerprints are found on shell casings, that's corroborating evidence. Same if witnesses claim the shooter was wearing a blue jacket, and I've got one in the trunk of my car. With enough evidence, the story becomes pretty clear to any reasonable person, and that's obviously true in this case. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

Devil's advocate mode: Are you aware of one single witness who can positively ID him as the shooter, given what he was wearing? And do you think there's a chance he is clinically /legally insane? I think the death penalty should certainly be on the table, but none of us know yet whether it's appropriate. Blues, Dave Not trying to be a smart ass here but, So you really thing the actual "Joker" planned to frame this guy? Bought the weapons in the guy's name, booby trapped his house, committed the crime, spray painted the guy's hair orange, then switched clothes with him and stuck gun in his hands and car and got away? Come on... This is unquestionably THE guy. In his talks so far he's essentially admitted to committing the crime. As for what is "clinically" and legally insane, those are actually two different things. The legal definition is more or less, "did he know pulling the trigger would kill people and killing people is wrong." Again, come on... Yes, he absolutely knew what he was doing. He's not going to get off by reason of insanity. Of course I don't think the Joker framed this guy. I think there's a huge mountain of circumstantial evidence, so much so that his guilt is almost assured. Is it theoretically possible that there were two participants, one inside shooting and this one outside to take the blame? Sure, but it's spectacularly unlikely. I'm also quite aware of the differing definitions of insanity, and I'm pretty sure this guy was aware that what he was doing was wrong. That said, his behavior in court today certainly looked like that of someone who will be testing the waters of an insanity defense. Assuming he's found legally competent, it still stands to reason that clinical insanity could be an appropriate consideration in death penalty decision-making. Inappropriate in my opinion. The student body is being punished for criminal actions they had nothing to do with. Sandusky should be punished (obviously), and those who knew about it and didn't do enough to stop it should face sanctions or charges of some sort, but those who didn't know about it, or weren't in a position to do anything should be the one's picking up the pieces. It's unclear to me why the NCAA should be trying to hinder that process. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
