That's kind of funny given your non-answer of the question in the thread title and subsequent discussion of taxation rather than race. Blues, Dave Show me *ONE* thread that *HASN'T* gotten sidetracked - shall I look up the number of times you've done the same? Regardless, your point is taken. Hey, don't be getting all defensive there Mike, I just thought it was funny. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Is it possible to have sex with one person for the rest of your life?

The thing that kills me here is - it's more the fault of the democrats in congress than the executive branch. Look at what the democrats are doing now! It's going to get a lot worse if one gets to head the executive branch. Yeah, cuz things were just fucking peachy from 2001-2007. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Bush 43 is pretty much the most despised US president in history, with an abysmal 69% disapproval rating largely due to his Mid-Eastern debacle. McCain is at least perceived as being more willing to continue there. Bush 43 was president when mortgage debacle brokem, with record forclosures. Him and his republicans are going to get blamed for it. Obama's greatest strengths in the election are that 1) He's not McCain 2) He's not a Clinton and 3) He's not a Republican. Color has nothing to do with it. He's also not a Clinto And Congress' disapproval rating is even higher - does that mean they'll be 'most despised', too? No, because too many people think everyone in Congress sucks except their guy. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

You're missing my point Mike. I'm not ask who YOU would vote for. I'm asking do you think that your Nation is ready for a Black President. I'm not missing your point at all. If the most important characteristic you can come up with is the color of his skin, you're going to have to ask someone else because that criteria doesn't even cross my event horizon. So in other words, you read the question in the thread title, thought "I don't know", then opened the thread anyhow and just looked for an opportunity to take offense? You're correct, at least in my one experience with such a situation. By the time I'd figured out that I'd fucked up, my hand had already deployed my pilot chute on its own. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Is Sun Path going nearly out of business?
livendive replied to livendive's topic in Gear and Rigging
According to this article, Sun Path is laying off 40 people in about 3 weeks. I wouldn't have guessed they had that many employees in total, and have to imagine it'll dramatically reduce their production capacity. Anyone know the scoop? So, if someone raised $400 and $300 of it came from one person and the rest from 50, you'd be more worried about it than a guy who raised $1300 and got $650 from one person? At the end of the day... money is money. Obama's gotten way more from the $200 plus crowd than McCain. (besides, that wasn't my criteria) So Obama's got more money from the "big" donors than McCain, but McCain still owes more to them somehow? I'd say that $129 mil is a lot more "influential" than $65 mil. For the sake of this argument, let's say I accept that premise, and because Obama has raised almost exactly twice the amount of money from >$200 donors, he is thus approximately twice as beholden to them. On the flip side of that coin, Obama has raised $135,289,610 from the

Reworded: Besides... who owes more to the "big" donors?? Someone who got half their money from them or someone who got most of their money from them? I think I'll go make my third contribution to Obama's campaign just so I can get above the $200 mark and qualify as a "big" donor. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Alright, cool...we're all on the same page with regard to how an AAD works. I guess my point was that, given how slow tandem reserves can open, is a 600 ft cushion between cutaway altitude and AAD fire sufficient to minimize the frequent purchase of new cutters? I'm guessing Booth and Strong and Cloth took this into consideration at some point, it's just not a discussion I've ever had and I'm wondering about real life experiences. Meh, I suppose it's not that big of a deal. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I was asking if a chop at 2500' could result in an AAD fire regardless of whether the reserve has already been deployed by the RSL or handle. The other two guys' responses suggested than an AAD couldn't fire if the reserve has already been deployed by other means, which, if true, would suggest there's something about AADs that I'm dramatically misinformed on. My 28' travel trailer likely outweighs most ski boats. In the near future I won't need to move it nearly as often as I do now, and a lot less frequently than in the last few years (twice/wknd, 6 mo/yr). At that point, I'll re-examine the economics and perhaps mix things up, but the rental truck thing just ain't gonna work for me. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Renting can be a lot cheaper than owning espceially if you stay away from (it) Hertz. I paid $19.95 plus tax to Home Depot the last time I needed a pickup truck. If you live in a sufficiently non-urban area that parking's not a problem, ownership may not be that bad. When I had more room and more toys I spent about $100 a year to insure a truck. List price on the insurance was about $200/six months but I got a ~$150/six month multi-car discount. Yeah, if I lived in an urban area where parking was a problem, I'd probably be less enamored with the daily use of a pickup. Last time I used a Home Depot truck, the $19.95 only got a short period of use, after which it went up to $35/hour or something like that. Plus it was only available to transport stuff I'd bought from Home Depot and it was a flatbed, so it wouldn't be particularly useful for dump runs, etc. I pay a lot more than $100/year to insure my truck, but I have full coverage and the truck stickered at slightly over $40k when I bought it last year. Perhaps that price would be feasible for liability only on an old beater truck, allowing me to buy a halfway enjoyable car for regular driving, but then I'd be worried about reliability during the 8k+ hard miles (offroad, snow, and/or towing) I'd put on it each year. In the last week I needed it Friday to carry stuff to the DZ and Sunday to get home. In a month or two things will be settled enough at our new location that a car could work about half the weekends, but we're not there yet. I needed it yesterday to take some stuff to recycle and to Goodwill. With some breaking down, I could have done that in two or three car trips. I need it tomorrow to take a mattress & boxspring to Goodwill. I need it Friday to take a rig rack (6'x6'x3') to the DZ along with my generator (plus fuel), dog crate, etc, and Sunday to haul my trailer into town and back to dump tanks and then return home with the usual stuff, including trash from the weekend. With the DZ 90 miles away, it wouldn't be economical to take a rental truck. Honestly, I currently use my truck as a truck at least a 2 or 3 times a week. With some inconvenience, I could probably reduce that by half within the next month or two. A rental truck would suck to tow the trailer to Prairie, etc, and I'd be stuck paying for a rental and going through the inconvenience of reserving, picking up, and dropping off the bare bones model of questionable reliability at least 2-3 times a month, plus cramming myself into some little car the rest of the time. It may be that I'll be able to justify an old Geo Metro or something with liability only coverage by the end of the season, but until then I'll be doing my daily commute in something I actually enjoy driving. I need a pickup part of the time. The costs of buying, maintaining, and insuring an additional vehicle are not justified by the price of fuel, even at $5.00/gallon. Given that it would cost me substantially more to own a second vehicle and I'd like driving it a lot less than I like driving my truck, what's my motivation? 10 Completely Insane Activities Probably Not Covered By Insurance
livendive replied to AirWhore's topic in The Bonfire
Why in the world would that be? I'd rather not be hurt at all, but if I have to suffer an injury, I'd rather it be covered by my insurance than not covered. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
