Who's teh sexiest female skydiver on DZ.com? and why!
livendive replied to humanflite's topic in The Bonfire
I used to do Kelly's embroidery for his Infinity rigs before he moved to Oregon! But I think you might be thinking of someone else. I kinda doubt it Valinda...you are definitely a hottie! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
When a woman stays with a man who hits her, she's basically telling him it's acceptable. If you stay, you're effectively telling him that he's allowed to talk to you like that. I have to imagine this would damage your self-image. Don't be his bitch. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

That looks more like a post-coital "hold me" look than a "come hither" look. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

If my boss (at my full-time job) talked to me like that, I'd start looking for another job immediately and watch my tardiness in the meantime. If I had a 6 hour a week job and a boss talked to me like that, my similarly worded retort would include my resignation, and I'd cc: all the other staff on it. There's no way they pay you enough for those six hours to justify tolerating that level of unprofessionalism. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

CNN/Author claims WWII was unneccesary

I have not and likely will not read the book, but would like to point out that avoidable != unecessary. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
I suspect efforts to understand that fraction of a second are somewhat trivial, as comprehension of "how things work" require perspectives stretched across massive amounts of time rather than miniscule. I can observe that systems become increasingly complex and I have every reason to believe that this tendency continues beyond my ability to comprehend. With a sufficiently wide view of time and space, I think understanding could follow awareness. But until we have that awareness, understanding is, by definition, impossible. The largest mistake I think organized religions make in their promulgated explanations is an incredibly erroneous misperception of our (human) significance. In comparison to the vastness of time and space, we exist in something far shorter than the blink of an eye and far smaller than the head of a pin. Of course from a selfish standpoint, I think this common error is tremendously beneficial. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I've objected strongly to what pictures of such acts that I've seen. I've tried to withhold judgement (sometimes unsuccessfully) on those things which I've only heard one side of. Rest assured that if someone posted a link with a video of one of our guys treating a human like this, I'd be at least as vocal as I have here, and likely more. The closest I remember seeing included something that was reported as British soldiers raping a young girl and something else of Iraqi civilians stoning a teenage girl. Both offended me deeply. I pretty much decide on the ground unless I've got a student. I've never ridden a plane down due to winds with a tandem, but I have with all the other types. Last year at Dublin I made one jump on Saturday. I had to PLF for the first time in years, so packed my stuff up at 11 AM or so, grabbed a beer, and occasionally watched those bolder than me land. Two or three weeks ago I rode the plane down once (had an AFF student), and let main side ride down with another student while I chased some 10-way. I have more experience backing in landings than I do landing in airplanes and prefer it whenever possible (within reason). Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I presume you mean only on the "don't jump" side of the coin. Every jumper should have their own comfort zone, as you've expressed, and the S&TA (or equivalent) can override their upper limit on a "ride it down" basis but not a "these winds are fine, get out" basis. Something that didn't include human sacrifice or eternal damnation? It's all good though, if you're happy with your beliefs, I'm happy for you. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Looks like I'd be doing two ways with BIGUN i guess! Make it a 3-way. And between me and Keith, you better plan on arching. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

More than likely, I'd be one of the tandems. In reality, well, we don't radio up like that. We actually call the winds. And yes, if they were under 30 or so, I'd likely jump. At some point in my skydiving career, something very odd happened. Landing in a jump plane now scares me more than getting out of one. It's not that I don't trust our pilots, they're all quite competent. It's something to do with not having the controls AND not knowing what to do if I did have them (landing frontside on a tandem with a guy doing his first rigside tandem on my back doesn't scare me much anymore either). What will you do if he really is the atonement for your sin? Would you feel any shame then? Or would you remain heartless? I cant believe you are so certain there is no God that you would actually mock his greatest expression of grace...wow, talk about ignorance. I am by no means certain there is no "god". What I'm profoundly confident in is the incredible odds against any of the human religions being correct. Please go back and read the text of the attachment in the original post and then tell me again that I'm ignorant to find it *highly* unlikely. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" These men have no honor and should not be representing us in foreign lands, especially under the guise of "liberators". With completely fucked up dipshits like this, it's no wonder some of the locals turn to guerilla tactics to thin our presence. How are they to know which are the good guys and which are the sadists? Non-judicial punishment typically refers to loss of rank, loss of pay, restriction and extra duty, in some combination. What he said. And for the guy who said something about Leavenworth, if he were headed there (or any brig), they wouldn't be discharging him yet. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Here's the forecast for Ritzville this weekend. Clear skies, warm temps, light winds. Please bring a packer with you, and preferably another TI too, as we'll have the fun jumpers & students to turn and burn.

SCOTUS: Gitmo detainees can go to civil courts
livendive replied to crwtom's topic in Speakers Corner
During WWII German prisoners of war had rights. "Illegal enemy combatants" is a legal non sequitur invented by your war criminal in chief. And here I always thought that the Geneva Convention was written BEFORE 43 was elected... my bad. No mention of "Illegal Enemy Combatants" at Geneva. Sounds a lot like "unlawful combatants" to me - seems like a reasonable way to get the idea across to the public, seeing as how many of the great intellects posting about it here in SC *STILL* can't tell the difference between the US troops and unlawful combatants. The idea they're trying to get across with such a distinction is this. We have one way of dealing with criminals. We have another way of dealing with prisoners of war. We want to treat these people in a totally different way without the protections either of the above classifications afford and we want the President to have sole authority to decide which persons he will detain indefinitely in this manner, without any judicial oversight. Personally, I think balanced power is best for America and our recent Presidents have been grabbing far more than their share. It's time for the Legislative and Judicial branches to do their jobs and take some of it back. This ruling does at least step in the right direction. Do you understand the benfits of a Collin's Lanyard?
livendive replied to klingeme's topic in Gear and Rigging
I don't really know how skyhooks work and I'm not sure what a collins lanyard would look like on a rig w/ left side RSL, but on a right side RSL rig it's as easy as Mary RottenCrotch. Picture a 12 inch piece of stout line, e.g. 1500 lb Spectra (UPT probably specifies something) with a loop fingertrapped on each end. One loop is larger and goes around the front RSL side riser. The smaller loop goes around the non-RSL side cutaway cable between the handle and the cable housing. Thus if the RSL side riser breaks, the lanyard pulls the non RSL side cutaway cable (albeit at an odd angle between the handle and the housing). In a normal cutaway, the cable is simply extracted from the small loop. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
