Existing State and National Records
gemini replied to gemini's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have been asked numerous times for the records and cannot find a good, single source. What are the RW, VR/FF & CRW records for your state or country? Please include POPS and Women's formations. Arizona RW-300 Texas RW-125 California POPS RW-93; MVWR-53 Illinois WVWR-18; Mississippi RW-61 Italy VR-16; Blue skies, Jim -

I owned a Mazda 929 and the transmission went out at 48K miles. It was my wife's car and she took care of it. A week after I had a new transmission installed, the tranny blew up on the tollway! Don't think I will ever buy another one. Have a VW Passat now with about 85K miles. Only major problem was a transmission fluid leak into the radiator. After Trent fixed it the car has been fine. In Houston, the drivers are required to secure their loads. That's why you see dump trucks with covers. If they break it and you claim it was their truck, they will usually pay without much argument. Stay on them! Blue skies, Jim

Yep that's Steve. Tall blond guy and a super Otter pilot. He built Spaceland from the ground up! Blue skies, Jim

Oh to be so young and naive!

In the CA decision the emphasis was on the standard of care when a person is involved in "common carriage.' My point is when does the "common carriage" end? Obviously in the roller coaster ride the CC ends when the riders exit the car. Where does the owner's due care reasonably end? At the terminus of the ride or CC. Should not the same rule apply to skydivers? In the court case, the riders never leave the ride until the ride terminates at the point of origin. In skydiving the "ride" ends when the jumper exits the plane. Think of those jumps where the take-off is from a muni-aiport and the landing is miles away at the dz. I think we have a case of apples and oragnes here. I do agree with you that CA stands alone when it comes to some of its court decisions, but that is a whole other issue. Sorry the weather is bad for you up there. Blues, Blue skies, Jim

Although I see your point, I don't agree entirely. The aircraft can perform safely and be flown by a comtetent pilot, and the skydiver can still be injured. It's not quite the same since we effectively leave the roller coaster prior to the injury. Of course if the dz does not adequately maintain the aircraft and there is an aircraft accident... The maps don't do much good because there are so many, but I found a database that allowed me to query for the period 6/16/1999 through 6/16/2005. What is interesting is that October of 1999 there were 33 times as many earthquakes on average as the rest of the months. Although this indicates a declining number of earthquakes since 1999, 2005 may indicate the first increase over a prior year since 1999. Blue skies, Jim

Glad you're getting better Renee. Try not to overdo it. Getting in a hurry to get better can keep you hurting longer. Blue skies, Jim

Looks like a lot of activity all of a sudden! Is this a pattern? Blue skies, Jim

We have copies of the ceremony on file in manifest at Spaceland. If anyone would like a copy, please ask Boston John and he will get one for you. Blue skies, Jim

How about a warning? Don't ride in a golf cart at night with a bunch of sloshed skydivers!!! It's amazing how much damage can be done to a body from 1-2 feet when concrete is the landing pad. Blue skies, Jim

I believe one is yellow and the other is a neon green. At first glance they do look the similar however the canopy size is on the front harness flap too. Usually students and jumpers who don't own their own gear are lined up waiting to use the gear especially the 210, 190 and 150. Like most newbies, I am sure the jumper was anxious to get the gear from the packer and get on the plane before a student showed up looking for it and failed to really check the gear first. This is very, very important especially when there are low-time jumpers/students on board. Several weeks ago Trent and I were on a load, but we were separated due to the RW group FF group order, or he may have had a student. Winds were very light and variable that day. At 4-5K or so Trent got up and squeezed between all the jumpers to get to a guy sitting on my right. It was a guy just off AFF and unlicensed who was using DZ rental gear. Trent asked him "What size canopy are you jumping?" The guy said "A 210. Why?" Trent said, "Well it looks like you've got a 120." All the rental/student rigs are color-coded and have unique pin cover colors. Trent remembered the guy jumping a bigger canopy and thought it looked odd so he took the trouble to ask the guy. The guy rode the plane back down. Probably saved him at least some bruises and bumps if nothing worse. Heads up call. Check yourself, your friends, and then everyone else you can see! My first was a 68 Chevelle SS 4-speed w/396 CI that I bought new from a dealer for $2,800. They sell for $23,500 now in good condition! My brother-in-law still has his 70 Challenger that looks better now than it did when it was brand new. Blue with the wide black stripes. Blue skies, Jim
