  1. Sorry, I'm not in kindergarten anymore, so I don't play with clay. Describe the comparison please --- Unanswered questions are far less dangerous than unquestioned answers
  2. Something to consider in the midst of these replies about body-position: Three guys at my dz bought Vengeance canopies. One bought a 150 (iirc), another a 135, and the last a 120. The guy with the 135 is still jumping his and is very happy with it. He admits that he gets some irratic openings on it, but lives with it and doesn't mind too much. The other two are different stories. The guy with the 150 was the first with the problems. His canopy would start to "snivel" on-heading and then fully inflate into a fast turn, sometimes as much as a 360. All his packing and body-position fixation couldn't cure it, so he sent it in to PD with the pilotchute and all. After several months he got a reply from the dealer that there was something wrong with the canopy and he could choose any stock canopy from PD he'd like. The guy with the 120 also had problems with his, although not as serious. Sometimes it would open ok, but others it would open with a sharp turn. After 40 jumps and three cutaways he sent his canopy in to PD as well. A couple of months later, same reply from the dealer and now he's also got a choice of a stock canopy from PD. That's any canopy from PD, including a Velocity (which is what the first guy chose). I'm not saying there's something wrong with your canopy, only that there are Vengeance canopies out there with problems, and PD knows about it. Be on the look-out, but enjoy your canopy if it's healthy
  3. If you're gonna land it crosswind feel free to do it outside of the general landing area and make sure you're not the first down, thereby setting the pattern for following (perhaps relatively new and inexperienced) jumpers. Much appreciated. Landing crosswind is certainly a good way to disrupt a landing pattern. hmm.. That sounds like a training issue at your dz. Guess we need yet another BSR. Where have you been lately? More and more people are going straight to freefly after they get their A-license. I wouldn't trust someone straight off student-status to know how to fly a safe pattern with mixed groups (ie. freefly and/or RW), longer than I could throw them. YMMV. --- Unanswered questions are far less dangerous than unquestioned answers
  4. Maybe, but at least we can spell. IMO they are just jealous. Has nothing to do with jealousy. I believe it's more that people here "look" more important when they've got lots of posts, while they may not know what the heck they're talking about. Just like someone with 10,000 jumps could come here and make one post and be "classified" as a "newbie". Too much emphasis on # of posts. Not saying I think the "classification" is a "bad thing", but I believe that's the "gripe" with it. Look at Da Wreck; those with the most posts are usually also the ones with most BS and little of actual learning value (me included). 5. Call Ed at 1-888-RIGGING and ask him what his current price for new ones is. I'm sure you'll be paying more than 1/3 of what his new price is. You shouldn't pay that much for a CYPRES unit with 1/12 of its life-span left. As many have said before, the price quoted is way too high for a CYPRES with that little time left. --- Unanswered questions are far less dangerous than unquestioned answers
  6. I jump a PC-3 and it serves its purpose well for skydiving. Never experienced any problems with it. The price is a bit on the high-side though. You should be able to get a newer model (PC-1XX) for just a little more. --- Unanswered questions are far less dangerous than unquestioned answers
  7. That'ld be me. There's more to life than Da Wreck. Not much more, but still more I agree with you on the used/new rig thing. --- Unanswered questions are far less dangerous than unquestioned answers
  8. I see you've gotten several good replies from several experienced people. One thing most seem to ignore is the economics, however. Buying a used rig when you get off student status is also a good choice from an economical pov. A brand new rig will see a greater loss in value during your 100-or-so jumps (which is what you can expect before you're ready for something else), than will a used rig. Also, renting a rig is money out of the window. You will get nothing back when it's time to buy a new rig. Just something to consider. --- Unanswered questions are far less dangerous than unquestioned answers
  9. Scenic dropzone at the end of a fjord, surrounded by low hills. Nearest neighbour is a 1km long beach.
  10. For anyone using a Canon EOS for skydiving. What setting do you use for the camera? Is the "sports" mode good enough, or do you dabble into the "Creative Zone"? If the latter, which zone do you put it on and what settings do you use in that zone? A general answer would be cool. Details concerning different lighting (sunset etc) would be awesome. Thanks.
