I've been in 9 years now and "wings" are/wore worn on the BDU, DCU and the new ACU uniform. The only change has been the color and on the ACU the badge must be pinned on. Also what is RAPS? Yeah that is what I was thinking too but I didn't want to call bs on his story. There is a small spread between the ranks of E-5 to E-8. He is a Master SGT and I'm just a SGT. I think I like my knees to much to go airborne. Has anyone heard of someone getting jump wings awarded via civilian sport jumping? I had one of my fellow sergeants tell me and a few of my soldiers that you could earn the Parachutist Badge because of our sport jumping. I think that he doesn’t know what he is talking about but I didn’t want to correct him without having more knowledge about it. Has anyone ever heard about this? The only thing I could do is look up the AR on it and from what I’ve read I think this sergeant’s story is BS. From what I can read it looks like it wouldn’t count, which is what I would think. I mean jumping a round is completely different from jumping a ram-air. Here is the AR: Army Regulation 600–8–22 8–11. Parachutist badges a. Three degrees of badges are authorized for award: Parachutist Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Master Parachutist Badge. b. Eligibility criteria for each badge as set forth in paragraphs 8–12, 8–13, and 8–14. c. Special eligibility for awards will be determined from the DA Form 1307 (Individual Jump Record) in the field 201 file section of the personnel records jacket. Each entry on this form will include pay period covered and initials of the personnel officer; the entry will be made only from a DA Form 1306 (Statement of Jump and Loading Manifest)completed by an officer or jumpmaster. d. Jumps with civilian parachute clubs will not be counted in the number of total jumps required for each badge. e. Award of the basic Parachutist Badge or advanced parachutist badges awarded by other U.S. Services may onlybe awarded if the Soldier meets the Army criteria for the badge. The "big deal" is a breach of contract on Ellen’s part. Is the content of the contract retarded. . .I think so, but that isn't what the issue is. Ellen signed something that she didn't read or adhere to and now she is in boo-who's-ville over it. Just like the waivers that skydivers sign. As an OIF vet I would sincerely offer my gratitude to this post. Believe it or not I think it is great that both sides of this argument are so passionate on their opinions. I am a instrument for the commander in chief. I have no opinion one way or another I just do what I am told. I have served for 9 years now and I have had to do some things that I may or may not agree with. That is not my place to say one way or the other. All I can do is get a silly Zen like grin on my face when I see American’s using their freedoms as we are on this post. With that said may I remind everyone that our democratic system is based on a 2 party house. Right or left no matter how much you hate the other, if there is only your party the system looks a lot more like socialism or communisis. Not that I am nay-saying either types of government but if you like that idea you should move to a country that implements that form of government. I think that it is inevitable. Skydivers are a different breed of people. It takes a certain kind of crazy to jump out of a plane. No matter how you look at it at one point in time there was a pure rush of doing a static line and or a hop-n-pop. The “system” is setup to gradually push students to the next level and many of us went to the next step with lots of doubt about being able to pass the next task at hand. I have been on a couple boring jumps and I have very low jump numbers. I have to set a goal on each jump. Maybe something that I haven’t done or something that is more complicated. Making a smaller target to aim for, flying relative to another canopy, trying to out track another jumper in a tracking dive. Lucky for me I am a lousy jumper so I foresee many jumps before I get too bored with it, but I see the point about fast downsizing. Most jumpers at my DZ have the attitude that guys that are downsizing quickly are compensating for a lack of penile size. With that said I made a huge jump in canopy size when I bought my own gear. I went from a 220 then 1 jump on a 190, then I bought my 160.
