hey there you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is the same sharkie I did my AFF training with in November (with Derek Woods also)? With Vissie? I think he is an awesome person but doing backflips at this stage is not erm , um (cough cough) for me lol. I did one with Dawie after we exited and ended up almost kicking Nicholas (cams) in the face he he he dvd shows him pushing me away on my thigh nogal! I tell you this sport is the closest and most intimate I have been with other men since my 22 years of marriage l Actually I spoke to Vissie after my last tandem and he spoke to me about handling toggles and stuff if I jump with him....so I am thinking about it Hopefully that will help me get a step forward to eventually doing my AFF. Where you been Sharkie? I have not seen you at the DZ in a while. Minds are like parachutes -- they only function when open. -- Thomas Dewar

hiya Peej...for sure. Looks like we will be there every Sunday from now on I have convinced Mike to finish his AFF and to continue jumping. Can you believe he nearly gave it up 6 weeks ago cos "work did not approve" (cough cough spit ) LOL I think he should change careers instead! (hulle gatte ne?) lol Minds are like parachutes -- they only function when open. -- Thomas Dewar

Hiya Peej! Thanks man. Woo hoo yeppers I jumped another tandem on Sunday with Dawie and absolutely thoroughly awesomely enjoyed it lol! I think I am just gonna stick to tandem once a month (or more) lol...Mike has to just cough up he he he Seriously though, he is happy for me to do it. Missed your camera though but Nicholas did quite a good DVD Mike did his first solo (level 8 AFF) and landed on his feet! I was soooooooooo proud. Although his level 7 was an outlanding 6km's away and ma had to go and fetch him he he he Minds are like parachutes -- they only function when open. -- Thomas Dewar

"It's either Me or Skydiving Hon - Choose." Anyone really heard that?

My husband of 22 years started talking about skydiving shortly after my daughter started dating Bailey Jnr, who himself is a skydiver...(yup, thanks Bailey!!! lol ) Being something that Mike and I have always talked about, off we went to JSC...did the static line training with Derek and Sharky and then the AFF conversion training with Chris B and Bev. I only really started getting nervous whilst we were doing our malfunction drills in the harness and got so flustered that I could not concentrate Anyway, thank God the weather was too crappy that afternoon to jump and we spent the evening at a nearby guest house. I was terrified of telling Mike that I was afraid to jump for fear of letting him down. I kept quiet, and although I am not a religious person, I prayed all night for rain! And guess what? I poured the next day!!! I was thrilled!!!!! During the following week, I swallowed my pride and told my husband that although I love tandem...AFF just was not for me. I thought he would be dissappointed, he wasn't. The next problem for me ..... how would I get him to not jump? I was besides myself for days. This is the only man I have ever loved...and I could lose him in the blink of an eye! I don't know life without Mike! We have tewo kids! There were so many what if's....why's...and so on..ofcourse I read every incident report I could get my hands on, every fatality....everything "bad". I have spent many hours at the drop zone over the past four months waiting for him to jump and watching him jump....many of them on "calmettes" a mild tranquiliser. I was at the drop zone on the day Dian had his accident ........... I know that I am waffling on here but seriously, I have never seen such joy or excitement on my husband's face as when he jumps and I have never seen him so miserable or frustrated as when he can't! I have to put my own fears aside because ultimately....I would rather see him happy flying...than existing on his knees....if that makes sense? He does live his dreams and I want to live them with him...hopefully for a long time to come. I have to trust his judgement and be confident in the decisions he makes and pray that he carries on learning and practising everything he has been taught and more Minds are like parachutes -- they only function when open. -- Thomas Dewar -
I have an 18-month old female Boerbul and I would not change her for the world! She has the most amazing nature and is FANTASTIC with kids. I can honestly say (and speak to any canine shrink about this) that a dog's nature is highly determined by the way they are raised, trained and socialiased. Unfortunately there are many cases of inter-breeding in our country so PLEASE get your girl's hips checked out for Hip dysplasia asap as my puppy had to undergo an arthroplasty (removal of hips) at 7 months. It cost an absolute fortune and the rehab is no fun for anybody. After lots of hard work she is 100% now There have been cases of people being mauled by the dogs "for no reason"? but the we are talking about an animal here and due to many cases of interbreeding, these things will happen. Thankfully our girl is placid and loving and the best pet that ever happened to us. We have around 20 animals here (4 dogs inc) and she has yet to harm one of them, or God forbid, any other human. Thankfully she loves water, having had regular baths with us, and swum in the pool with us, from a very early age. Unfortunately, we had a housebreaking an armed robbery at our home in December and we were shot at. Had my dog not intercepted the robbers and thrown herself between us and them, things would have been a lot worse and one of us could have been injured or killed Our dog is doing exactly what she was aquired for and that was to protect us. She does sleep inside. If there is a "BEWARE" sign on my gate, and you choose to jump my walls....well then I am afraid you are going to be looking at 55kg's of pissed off puppy Enjoy your dog and I hope she brings you many years of companionship and joy! regards Jinxie Minds are like parachutes -- they only function when open. -- Thomas Dewar

Hi there, I am a 41-year old mother of two girls who, along with my husband Michael got into the sport 4 months ago. We both did static line training with the AFF conversion. He has finished 6 jumps already and I have...erm, hmm, um, ahem...done one tandem . As much as I would love to be able to do AFF, I am too chicken chit and thus am quite happy to do a tandem every second weekend . Ah well, the tandem guys at JSC are so wonderful, why not just let them take control while I enjoy the ride I say? Also, I am just a Porter junkie and am happily strapped in for as many take-off's and landings as I can pay for! The crowd of people at JSC have been fantastically patient and wonderfully supportive and it great to see a few peeps from SA on this site! So hello again, and hopefully someday soon.....I can say, I did my first AFF jump (yup, as soon as the urge to puke passes every time the door opens) Minds are like parachutes -- they only function when open. -- Thomas Dewar
