my mom tried zyban and fell into severe depression.. but maybe she quit too fast after she started the treatment.. are there many known suicides in correlation to chantix!? “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda

so, i tried it with the gum, dont think thats working, you're just replacing nicotine with nicotine, you're still an addict. not gonna try the patches! then there's accupuncture and other alternative ways; i'm quite fond of "real" pharmacy tough.. apparently, with Champix you also get support via texts or email. its more expensive, but the additional motivation might be worth the cost.. anyone tried the one or other, or have friends that did? care to share your experiences? i'm pretty sick of this smoking shit, but if i quit cold turkey, i feel like killing either myself, or anyone in my vincinity.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Elaborate please? Where is "over here" and what are the gear check SOPs? over here is switzerland, generally europe i think! check your reserve-cable is running free,, check your PC being cocked and stowed properly, cables of three rings are where they're supposed to be. check your AAD. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Pin Checks and Other Manuvering with the Door Open
virgin-burner replied to champu's topic in Safety and Training
If doing a pin check is going to cause a premature opening then I dont want that person giving me a pin check or on the same plane as me. As a matter of fact they should be skydiving! I know this is a blanket statement but are we going to dumb down skydiving to the lowest commen denominator like school? if the world revolved around you, nobody would be skydiving anymore but you.. this is the 2nd time you're asking if some poster should be jumping at all that i'm reading of today.. maybe jumping is not for YOU!? oh, and us guys over here dont do pinchecks on others at all; one is required to do that stuff themselves PRE-flight! now, if you see something, your help is appreciated.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Landings ... I am frustrated beyond belief!!!

So how would you teach that to someone who doesn't get the whole zen "feeling" thing? Telling someone to "fly the canopy" doesn't give them any information on HOW to fly the canopy. Telling someone to finish the flare doesn't help them if you don't tell them HOW to finish the flare. Give a person like that a basic "recipe" for an effective flare, and with time and practice they will learn to "just fly the canopy." I could be wrong, but the results I've seen so far tell me I'm not. mhm, i dont want to argue here what works for you or others; but i'm seeing pretty experienced skydivers that just do a simple stroke down and just "pop in place". not really an elegant sight to someone with 500+ jumps. the "zen-feeling-flying"-guys, well, some have 2-300 or even less jumps, and ALMOST look like the guys with 3000+ jumps on their tiny velos. of course not with the same approaches, but they're actually FLYING their canopies nicely over the ground. for some things i guess you just have to practice. and developing a feeling for it. that is, if you think of your canopy-ride other than just the means of landing you in one piece! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. there are not many wings around here, the housing-thing might make sense in that regard; do you know how well that is described in the manual by chance? i dont know where he got it from, i can only assume.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. right riser did not release and part of the RSL-thing was also stuck to the rig. either on the velcro or on the riser-cover of the reserve sorry again for not being very specific, i know i cant expect a proper answer if i dont know all the details.. when i walked away from it, all i could say is "another reason for me not to get an RSL!". i was pretty shocked. but that will not help i suppose.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda

sorry for not being very informative, first, all this RSL-stuff is some sort of blackbox for me, i dont jump one, i know how its supposed to work, but i dont really know HOW. secondly, the technical terms you're using are a bit confusing.. the right riser didnt release completely. on the left side of the rig, some line that i think connects the main to the (reserve?)RSL/ripcord, whatever, was stuck. i think i've seen velcro there. or it might have been under the reserve riser cover. there was a dozen people standing around there, and when i left, i got called by the MAN and got shit for being the guy it happened to, as usual. thats pretty much as accurate as i'm able to describe what i've seen. it didnt happen to me and i just had a quick glance as i was busy packing and with my friends visiting. pretty fresh means, i believe the rig to be from this year, so it hasnt been jumped more than a coupe of months. we have an anual packing-cycle for reserves, so i doubt it has been looked over more than the initial assembly.. edited to add: it looked like that way when the guy got back from the following outlanding. this could have had a very bad outcome! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. that! it was a VERY fresh container too.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda

The subject says the question is about an RSL. Are you saying that the RSL is what has hung up the main so it won't really leave? What sort of rig? I am interested in the design of the RSL. Vector-like? More "conventional" type? wings-container, it looked like (to me, i dont know how an RSL is really supposed to look like behind the "magic of a reserve-packjob") that part of the "RSL-line" was snagged probably under the reserve riser covers. didnt look too close, but could there be velcro too!? “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. say you have a baglock, cutaway, and your main/bag gets somehow hung up. so your reserve is deployed into a ball of shit trailing behind you.. how common is that, and is that a rigging mistake or how could that happen? “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda

the SPEED 2000 is actually the smallest packing reserve there is.. i'd go as far as saying it even packs a size smaller than an optimum.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda

i'm looking forward to get my micron in a couple weeks. and i like my ('94) javelin and it will break my heart to see it go.. paratec are nice rigs too! or basik! that being said, probably every modern design will be best in the eye of the beholder; and owner, most likely too! get what you like best.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Landings ... I am frustrated beyond belief!!!
virgin-burner replied to OlympiaStoica's topic in Safety and Training
i'm pretty much everything but a "natural", and i've had many an issue with my landings in particular; that said, i've had my coach/instructor/mentor go things over with me over a beer. and when i brought up the "two-stage", he got kinda enraged.. that being said, flying and landing are really a thing of "feeling" rather than a recipe the kind of "after you do A, it is now time to do B", eg. "two-stage flare". you have to "fly" your canopy if you want to get it decent. then you also have to add pure knowledge, like in certain windconditions you have down-rotors because of nearby trees or roofs, so you have to start your flare up higher, as you will suddenly drop 6ft once you're close to the ground. this is probably harder to teach, but the earlier you start doing this, the better canopy-pilot you will be in the end. because "recipes" might have an adverse effect; "i did everything as it was taught to me and i still biffed in!" (say because of those rotors mentioned above), the jumper will be less confident and struggle even harder, and being scared will only make him/her freeze.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S.
