Landings ... I am frustrated beyond belief!!!
Baksteen replied to OlympiaStoica's topic in Safety and Training
My bad. I thought you meant the canopy's forward speed, not the angle you come in at. Point remains, there is a canopy out there for everyone and you made a good choice. -
I never ignore a red warning light; I just sit and stare at it until it goes green. It works EVERY time on the jump run!!!!!!! Not for me it wouldn't...we rely on old fashioned looking out the door and I haven't good enough eyesight that I can see the traffic lights change from jumprun, at least not from any altitude I'd feel comfortable exiting from. fucking AFF-kids and turbine-brats these days.. No I am not fucking AFF-kids and turbine-brats these days.. Perfectly jumpable weather but I can't go out today, so in the end we're in the same boat. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

I've always been impressed with the Storm's forward speed; it is fast and I love it! Part of solving 'pilot issue' is finding the canopy that matches you. You're addressing this issue. Good! I've never jumped a Pilot, but I hear it's an excellent canopy for someone of our experience level. -

We do have a student accuracy event along the same principles, though at a smaller scale.

Don't worry - as long as you skydive instead of sticking around up there you'll be fine. Now begone. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

If you could runaway and start a new life where would you go?

+1. Though anyone I'd be running from would know that they would only have to keep an eye on the DZ's to eventually find me. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom -
Yeah man! Finally Welcome to the skies. We told ya it was fun, didn't we? --- : 3 : 3 Dropped four loads of students, returned with the plane once. My left brake popped upon opening - that Storm turns FAST. I looked up fully expecting a spinning mal and having to do a cutaway, but I saw at a glance the canopy was square and the lines weren't twisted. I countered the spin with my left rear riser, realised it must be the brake, popped the toggles and was in control at 2500 feet. Was checked out as JM/SL Dropped my first load of students without supervision First jump with my GF Edit: actually there's two more but that's not my story to tell. Right. This thread has drifted in a way I didn't foresee. Money. Mind you, I'm not interested in what one has to do/spend before being able to make money skydiving, or how to ensure that novices can make money skydiving. What I was targeting with this thread is the novices that drop out for the single reason that they aren't given a reason to come back. Talking to the novices, jumping with them. That's the important stuff, which leads to hanging around the campfire. There is a lot of that at my DZ. Of course, at some point a novice has to take the initiative to seek instruction and to join a group around the bonfire. What is needed is that the novices are being made to feel at home. Introducing novices to instructors(of course) but also to experienced jumpers simply to jump with them - and introducing them to other novices. But what about events? Do you know about jump events that are organised especially for students/novices? No good canopy by 2000 = reserve procedure Keep fucking up all the way down to 1000 feet: straight to reserve. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Skyhook RSL snag on door handle, at pin cover flap
Baksteen replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
which would provide the same loop to get snagged by the nasty handle Which is why i said How would you deal with an installed RSL that you'd have to disconnect? Skyhook RSL snag on door handle, at pin cover flap
Baksteen replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
thank you. I read it as 'installed, but disconnected', which is also a solution that is sometimes used but which in this case probably would not have affected the outcome. Incidentally, if I had to disconnect an RSL, I'd refasten it to the housing of the cutaway pillow. A hot one giving you bootie call and a cold beer!!!!! I'm kinda preoccupied by skydiving right now. Is that wrong? 'Sides, my 'hot one' has to work tomorrow, but just might join me at the DZ for her second jump on Sunday.
