You are running into the same problem religious people run into when they try and "convert" someone to their religion. Its a matter of personal choice!!! Either they will or they won't. The only thing you(or anyone) can do is let it be known that you skydive. You shouldn't have to try hard to achieve this effect as word generally travels fast. I told my immediate family and gf and before I knew it all kinds of people knew I was jumping. At that point it is up to them to ask questions and you to answer them as best as you can. But if you think that there are some special words or phrases or actions you can take to create more skydivers you are wrong plain and simple. Sorry. Someday Never Comes

I'll second that. You got your points across very clear. I prefer to not land in the main landing area and also to exit last or near the end of a load. If a swooper ever cut me off on a landing pattern and I did survive the encounter I would beat the living hell out of him. If it were a her, I'd probably have my girlfriend do it...getting your jollies off is okay, getting them off at the expense of others saftey is unacceptable. Someday Never Comes

Swoopers are why I have zero problem being last or close to last out of the load, and pulling a little higher(3500). I also very rarely land in the main landing area...it just seems to be a stupid way to end a great skydive. Just my opinion and MO though... Someday Never Comes -

Aside from your final point, the rest is pure tripe. When you enlist in the active duty military you sign up for 4 years of active and 4 more of the Inactive Ready Reserve. Its in the contract... In other words you should know what your getting yourself into because its right there in front of your face. If you don't then you just signed something you shouldn't have, and you have no one to blame but yourself. Bottom line. Someday Never Comes

Damn...I lost my best friend and two of my squad mates all to IED's, all at different times, while we were on a tour in Iraq. This is horrible and I'm getting that feeling of helplessness again...when will the killing stop?? My sincerest condolences...I am truly sorry. Someday Never Comes

Even though I did, and have to deployed to Iraq. To the OP...Yeah most of us get the point that if GW's daughters were in Iraq, we'd be looking to end this in a hurry. Fact of the matter is, swooping is a dangerous and quite unneccesary part of the sport. Thats the bottom line. But for some people the skydive isn't enough and they need to poke death in the face once more, regardless of whether or not it endangers others. Someday Never Comes

It all depends on the girl really. Mine has the attitude of "I'll always be concerned when I know you're jumping out of airplanes" but at the same time she knows how much I enjoy myself and how much it keeps me sane/takes my mind off other stressful stuff. Also she has expressed an interest in jumping herself but hasn't the funds to do so realisticly. For a 5 month long relationship you really don't have that much invested and you SHOULD be able to make an informed decision...unless its really that good and you're letting your other head think for you... I've been offered a place to crash on more than one occasion...I usually pitch my sleeping bag at the DZ 'cause I'm hard like that!! But if it was seriously bad weather I would no doubt ask/take someone up on the offer. BTW I live in military barracks 1 1/2 hours from the DZ so I've never had someone crash.... Fer shure...I pack a few days(or whatever the duration of the trip) worth of undergarments, socks...a few shirts, a hoodie and 2 or 3 pairs of my favorite pants. The key to enjoying a "pack job" is the realization that I'm going somewhere AWAY from my current location. Call it wanderlust but to me that shit is the most fun I can have! Of course being a guy means that I really don't have to care what anyone I meet on my travels thinks of my wardrobe...keeping a nice fattie on standby(along with any other fun stuff) never hurts my attitude either!
