  1. Is there anything actually wrong with dropping next to big cloud formations like that. Or for that matter opening high next to them? (obviously you'd need to let everyone know thats what you're doing)
  2. Was on the golf course yesterday and these clouds look amazing. http://www.timgood.net/temp/1.jpg http://www.timgood.net/temp/2.jpg I thought how great it would be open just above them and be able to flying around it from the ultra-bright sunny side through to the shadow and back. It was around 9pm in the UK. Has anyone had the pleasure of being under canopy around clouds like this or even better when the sun is going down? Any pics anyone?
  3. Chicken,,, are you a girl or a guy? Just curious?
  4. Risky not at all. You get a whole days training. If you want value for money then the AFF stage one i feel is best. Here its around £350 for AFF1 and you get a whole day training and a jump. With the tendem you risk being thrown through the maifest of jump as fast as possible like all the other tandems on that day. You're just a number. However andy is right, AFF 1 is a big sensory overload if you havent done a freefall before. Maybe thats half the fun!!! I opted to go straight to AFF firstly for value for money but secondly because i knew i'd like it. I didn't need a tandem to prove that to myself. But as for safety. Both are equally safe in my eyes.
  5. sorry sorry.. i take back that last thread... not very tactful and you didn't need to know about my toilet habits... still wierd though
  6. omg,,, am i actually dreaming this thread? i've had shits longer than 3 months.
  7. Can you feel the 150mph wind hit you? Does it just send you all over the place?
  8. Arr ok i see. Fair point. The 1st and last person must be well away from the DZ then.
  9. I was watching the video of everyone piling out of the back of the DC one after another with about half a second gap inbetween each one. It made me wonder wouldn;t they have problems over opening times and people flying into others canopies or opening and then having collisions. Its easy when u have a 4 way for example and can track in opposite directions but when you havw so many at different levels. Whats everyones else thoughts and has anyone done it that can talk from experience?
  10. I burst my ear drum only 2 months ago scuba diving and i have skydiving only 2 weeks later. The doctors won;t tell you this but it is actually easier to equalise with a hole in your ear drum!!! Mine is now better than ever and i get less pain or discomfort skydiving than i did. Normal outer ear drum perforations are ok. They heal fine in time. However you must seek adivice if it is the inner drum / window. that is much more serious but quite uncommon. The answer tends to be your are fine to skydive if u have previous burst your ear drum and let it hear fully first. Consult your doctor first but mine if A OK! Tim
  11. Have you got a pic or scan of the column. I'm sure a few people here would be interested to see that.
  12. what about all the other characteristics of a canopy. How do you work these out or know? I.e. lift, forward speed etc?
  13. Can anyone give me a quick low-down on wing loading,,,, in a practical sense? What is it, how do u work it out and what does it mean literally? I.e what gives a canopy more forward speed? Do some have the ability to stay up and have more forward speed than other or do you simply sacrifice one for the other? Does it have an impact on how easy a canopy is to stall etc. Prizes for the most concise and practical explainations Cheers Tim
  14. is it just me or are you yanks A LOT more chilled out. I think most skydivers / Dz's would have a heart attack if you told em you'd jumped into a back yard party over here. Yank flippin hippies you!
  15. By bandit jump, i mean any jump from a non DZ controlled plane no where near an official DZ. So anything from private planes, helicopters etc If you have a story and don't want to admit to it just say you "know someone who ..."
  16. "12m gin nano" Can you elaborate on that please.? What size is that in ft?
  17. Of course it was only "ok" you were in tandem. Its not even in the same state as going solo, never mind the same ball park. P.s believe it or not you need to learn to skydive before jumping off a cliff. Kinda helps
  18. Its in the mountains above Nerja, spain. About 80km East of Malaga. I do a lot of walking/climbing around there and though i might be able to take my rig up and get a free ride down. Maybe not a good idea after the comments above.
  19. If they'd let go of it do you recon it could have flown down? I.e. can a chicken glide/ soar?
  20. fair points and yeah i wouldn't try it without experience i just wondered if other would... when you say 270 too boring.,,, surly a smaller more radical canopy wouldn't get you distance to get you off the mountain in the picture... wouldn;t you come down too early? Once again just asking your opinion rather than suggesting i do it.
  21. Imagine you'r 10 stone (65kg). Strap a big 270 canopy on your rig. Climb a nice big steep mountain like here: http://timgood.net/photos/Holidays%20&%20Travel/Spain%20Aug%202005/Summit.JPG With no wind, would you ground launch off the top and have a nice free ride to the bottom? ---------------------------- p.s. please don't reply,,, "why not just buy a paraglider". The question is would you do it with a skydiving rig and big main. Oh and that pic is in spain.
  22. What are all you guys on about. I can't find anything to do with a chicken jump? Link?
