My dz has recently switched from spring loaded pilot chutes to throw outs on the student rigs. We're having a hard time figuring out what to use for PRCP's though. Those of ya'll that use the S/L or IAD progression, what do you use?

PS Scrumpot, my profile is lower than my actual jump numbers, but at least I have jump numbers

Before everyone has a fit, no, my profile is not correct. I've also done about 4-5 demos, 1 being with a flag (No, I'm not jumping a flag for this demo), so this isn't my first one. One of the jumpers has over 5,000 jumps, but wants me to get the experience of organizing a demo, so I'm in charge of this one. The landing area is not a stadium, it's an empty field, at least twice the length and width of a football field. What I was complaining about, was the fact that before, all the club had to do is reserve the field, no questions asked. This year it has changed and there is that 4 page document. What I didn't like is that I'm suppose to sign it saying I'm financially and legally responsable for everything that happens. I was just wondering if anyone else has had to sign things like that. Plus, not that it's a big problem, but in my previous demos I've either gotten a free jump or been paid, it just seems backwards to have to pay. I'm not a newbie jumping with a 3.4 wingloading asking if it's safe, so please keep the flame throwers on low. I'm just wondering if anybody has had to sign documents like this.

I was wondering if anyone else thinks this is as crazy as me. I'm the president of a college skydiving club and we're holding our 50 year reunion this summer. To kick off the reunion we're planning on making a jump on Bowman Field (a huge field on the outskirts of campus). We've jumped on the field once a year in the past years to help advertise the club. All we had to do in the past was sign out the field using the clubs name and we could use the field for free. This year, we're having to sign up for it, pay the school (the school funds us), and sign this legal document I've attached. Has anyone else had to deal with anything like this when trying to organize a demo?

Demo team jumps into wrong stadium
smears replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks for replying to me twice and saying the same thing. If you read my post you would have read the words "rumor" and "don't quote me." I never said it was true, all I said is I heard it was the green berets. And yes, I have done demos before, not stadiums yet bc I don't have the jump numbers, but on all of them I have landed at least on the right property ;) -
True, I did a "demo" over there about a month or two ago for a hanger party. Bill Wood was there and let me jump his American flag. Jim, Eric, Trent and I jumped in for the party. That's the best way to arrive at a party

If you live in Greenville try Flying Tigers SPC. They're in Clemson. That's where I jump and love it

Demo team jumps into wrong stadium
smears replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Rumor going around my dz is they were green beret guys. Don't quote me on that, but I've heard it from a couple of different people. -
I've also been wondering about this. It happens a lot with my club's student gear. We use spring loaded pilot chutes, and about 1/3 of the time when we put a student out on static line, the pilot chute will be over the nose. We tell them to adjust with the toggles to make the canopy fly straight, but does anyone know how to avoid this? Yes, I know this is slightly off topic, but the same general topic... I'm not trying to jack your thread

tipping for recovered chopped canopy
smears replied to bigbearfng's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My only cutaway so far, my main landed on the run way. It was picked up about the same time I landed because the plane couldn't land . The freebag was next to it so that was picked up also. After I shed my gear, my bf and I recovered my handle. I brought beer for it being my first reserve ride and liquor for my rigger. Nobody expected anything but they sure enjoyed helping drink the alcohol -
Depending where in North Georgia you are my dz might be closer than those. It's about 5 min from Clemson. Do you think it will be any closer? I could have not been lazy and looked at your profile to see where you are, but...I didn't

Worrying Safety Bulletin concerning the Vigil
smears replied to skydivepete's topic in Gear and Rigging
I feel like Vigil and Cypress can be compared to new vs. old airplane engines. New engines are more likely to fail than one that has been used (and properly taken care of) for 5-10 years. Engines fail when they are still new because all the bugs haven't been sorted out. Same thing with Vigil, it's still new, all the bugs haven't been sorted out. Cypress did the same thing when they were new. Vigil is still working out the bugs (misfires on the ground), so until they sort that out, I'm sticking with a Cypress. **Disclaimer, this is only my opinion, so don't tear my post apart word by word please -
Anyone Ever Saved By Another Skydiver In FF?
smears replied to SkyHigh04's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had that happen to me, dislocated my right shoulder in freefall. Only problem was no one else was around. I tried to pop it back in still belly to earth but couldn't, flipped over on my back, popped it in and deployed. Made for a rough landing but at least I lived -

pranks/practical jokes to pull on fellow skydivers?
smears replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
Not much of a prank, but I took a friends rig to our rigger one time for him. I pulled the handles, everyting worked just fine, but I called him up later and was like Hey, I'm so glad you didn't have a mal this weekend! He asked me what I was talking about and I was like well...I pulled your handles and the pilot chute didn't come out! It was wrapped around something and that shit just didn't work! He was freaking out for a while, about to look for a new rigger when I told him the truth. And yes, he was a newbie to have fallen for something like that... -
That's pretty cool, I've never even seen it. I was just taught at the dz one day to pack tandems because there wasn't anyone else to do it.
-
Oh ok, I understand now. I was thinking sunset load, no one else in the sky. That makes sense now though, thanks!
-
Well, the page isn't working for me right now so I can't see what you're talking about. But on the tandems I pack there is a rubber band attached to one of the shorter brake lines. The two longer brake lines are then kind of S folded until the length of the shorter brake lines. Is that what you're talking about or am I completely off?
-
Hate to be dumb, but what do you mean by "don't let yourself get straight up over the LZ higher than 2000' (my personal altitude is 1500'). You're playing with potentially becoming a statistic if you do?"
