Bump, also interested to find a dz with cheap hop n pops, preferably a dz where a lot of jumps can be made and hop n pops are allowed on every load (I live in tandem country where pilots get upset if they have to do two passes).

container options that hinder swooping
Greig474 replied to Greig474's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Sometime in the near future i am hoping to save enough cash to buy a new container. After reading a few threads from a few years back and listening to some rumors on the dz it seems that some believe the following options hinder swoop performance: cut in laterals chest rings articulated harnesses the following aid in swoop performance: long chest strap - better shape of canopy rds - less drag low drag swoop risers - obviously less drag longer risers - (just what i've heard, im assuming because it increases recovery arc) If anybody can give more feedback on how and why any of the options on this list are pros or cons, along with pointing out any other options that are good or bad i would be grateful. -
fair point, thats how marilyn manson got so famous. However this particular cause is so ridiculous that I'm not really too worried about that because i really don't see it going anywhere. I wasn't starting this thread out of anger, i started it because I found the whole situation hilarious. If they wanted to convince people that Obama was a terrorist there is far better material for them to use than the killing of the worlds most wanted terrorist in somebody else's back yard. e.g the huge number of civilian deaths in iraq/ afghanistan since obama took office.

Since the death of Bin Laden there have been several cases where members of the muslim community have burned pictures of Obama and accused him of being a terrorist for the raid of Bin Laden's property in Pakistan, a country the American's had no right to be in. I for one totally agree with their protests, he had two options that he could have followed 1. They should have left him alone Sure he is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, and was likely still planning more, but you can't go after him if he is in someone else's back yard, thats just rude. 2. They should have left the hunt for him in the capable hands of the pakistan army After all it is their back yard. I mean they were unable to detect that 2 foreign military helicopters filled with 24 foreign soldiers snuck over their border and conducted a raid less than a mile from one of their largest military bases. A raid that involved explosives, gunfire and a helicopter crash, but come on, they should have been allowed to give it a try!

+1 I learned this lesson on one of my first tandems, we were coming in to land and i told the guy in front to bring his legs up, next thing i know he reaches back to grab something to hang on so he can lift his legs easier, left hand was on the webbing, right hand was on the cutaway handle. I now make sure the customer knows to use their hands to lift their legs, even if they can lift their legs easily without grabbing them, it keeps their hands occupied. Worse thing about this jump was it was a consolidation tandem, so the guy on front was a licensed skydiver!

interestingly enough, the reason the business no longer exists is because his ex-wife isn't there to run it for him anymore, according to some (my lawyers have told me to say) she walked in on him screwing another man in their bedroom, then she left, ever since then he has had to run the company himself and it went rapidly down the tubes.

don't think there'll be any need for that now, Mr REPO came along and now the company is no more, can't think how this happened, he was such an intelligent business man

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE35COnsmd8 Thanks to Neil Aldred for this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBsoGfRpUSw and thanks to Rob Pine for the following words and picture, ... it is almost a week since the tragic news of fox hit us all so hard... the unbelievable reality of accepting it all... the stunning shock... so much despair... so much heartbreak... and affecting so many many lives from all over the world ... and now it is time for the final goodbyes... the celebrations of their lives... as we farewell them from this earth... such a sad time... but also a time of cool memories... of special thoughts and cherished life... a mixture of grief and love... so cruelly intertwined... but ultimately the reality of life ending... as it must ... it can only emphasise how precious life is... how easily and quickly it can be extinguished... so live life... be saddened by our friends who no longer live it... but smile with the life you were fortunate enough to share with them ... the nine people who died all lived life... they lived out their passions... whether they were working in the sky... or about to experience it for the first time... they were living life... enjoying the excitement and rush of a three dimensional world... a huge playground where relatively few humans dare to play ... all of our friends chose to play there... the five fox guys were doing what they loved to do... the joy of sharing their playground and imparting the amazing experience of skydiving... and over one of the most magical places on earth... they spiced so many lives over many many years... they all truly loved life... and they all lived it ... and the four travellers who desired the experience... they were all seeking cool life too... wanting to touch the sky... to push themselves into the unknown of freefall ... to all of their family and friends... our hearts and sympathies go out to you all... your loved ones were living dreams... they were living cool life... we salute them all ... so... a week to say goodbye... a tough time for everyone... but a week to raise a glass and to toast the lives of some wonderful human beings... cheers to you all ... and a photo dedicated to the memory of our friends now gone ... it signifies peace... a peace i know our friends have found ... and also flight... the reason for their demise... but also the passion that fuelled their lives ... a restless sea... the grief that swirls with the sudden loss ... dark clouds... a brooding future of many sad times ahead ... but also a dawning sun... the start of new lives for so many... lives changed forever... but new lives that must be lived... may their lives continue to enrich yours ... fly in peace... you are all superheros! ... r.i.p ... live life!

Chaminda Senadhira (Jump Pilot NZ)
Greig474 replied to missann1320's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
What can I say? who didn't love Chami? excellent drop pilot and all round great guy. Here is a slideshow tribute to him and Michael Suter, another friend I lost in that accident http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE35COnsmd8 , I don't know how to make a clicky so if somebody else could do so I would be grateful. -
i have also heard a few people saying they were considering buying an XFS but decided against it because of the cost compared to a crossfire 2. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe sail material lasts longer, swoops further, is better in turbulence (because it is more rigid) and it inflates much easier (for ground launching). To me this justifies the extra cost but this is coming from my very limited knowledge of canopy design and canopy piloting.
-
Thanks for unlocking the thread Ian. As far as i'm aware it is the same as a crossfire 2, the difference is the sail material and i have also heard that the line trim is different. I don't know if they adjusted the trim just for the sake of ground launching, or if it benefits swooping as well. There may be a lot more to it than this though. Anyone know more?
-
That sounds promising, so were you jumping a crossfire 2 of the same size before you got your XFS? Also is there anyone out there who has ground launched it in no wind? if so how easy was it? thanks to everyone who has given feedback so far

Hey guys, I am considering buying a Daedulus XFS (previously called the GLS). I have read all i can find about this canopy in previous threads but there seemed to be a lack of people who had actually jumped one. Previous posts on this canopy were a couple of years ago so I was wondering if there are more people who have since jumped it and can now give feedback. I need a new skydiving canopy and i have been going back and forth on choosing a crossfire or katana, but the XFS could be exactly what i am looking for as i want a good ground launch canopy as well. Any advice/feedback is appreciated http://www.daedaluscanopies.com/GLSXF.htm

I only knew herb for a very short time but he was a great laugh to be around, never scared to say what was on his mind and always there to help out others. My thoughts are with his family, blue skies bro Iain
