  1. :17:0 First weekend in a long time that had WX suitable for student jumps all day. Made 15 AFFI (or recurrency) jumps and two fun jumps. A great weekend. Except for another weekend of The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  2. When using a paid packer, ALWAYS: -stow your brakes -uncollaose your slider -cock your pilot chute The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!

  4. Holy crap! Your reply (including embeded quotes) is 2200 words long! If double spaced and typed on paper that is nearly 8 pages! Funny that masturbation was mentioned earlier. Your writing is like masturbation... it is all about making you feel good, rather than connecting with someone else. Here is a relevant quote: I have made this letter longer than usual, because I lack the time to make it short (Je n'ai fait celle-ci plus longue parceque je n'ai pas eu le loisir de la faire plus courte)~Blaise Pascal, Lettres Provinciales (1656-1657), no. 16. I dare you to impose a 100 word budget on yourself. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  5. The 4 page Progression card is intended for use with the USPA Integrated Student Program. The 2 page proficiency card is for use with other basic skydiving curricula. The end result is the same, but the path is different. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  6. +1 on Cornish chris' answer. If you pursue skydiving I would recommend that you err toward an effective parachute landing fall rather than a cool stand-up landing if the landing is less than perfect. Of course that is good advice for any student...even more so for you. Spend extra time mastering the PLF during ground training, as some instructors don't give it the emphasis that it deserves. 7. USPA allows jumping @ 16 w/ parental consent. See the line in the SIM below the line about 18yrs. No wavier needed. So... There is nothing about letting kids 16-18 jump w/ parental consent that relates to the overall safety of a DZ. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  8. Weather delays for students are very common and very frustrating. Patience is a virtue, found seldom in a woman, and never in a man. (so said my grandma!) The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  9. Skydive Dallas has one. I remember seeing one at another DZ too... But I can't remember where! The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  10. Call the DZ to verify. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  11. If you choose to wear sunglasses for any jumping beware that polarized lenses can make it hard to read LCD screens in some orientations. If I wear my sunglasses my N3 altimeter screen can be hard to read depending on the degree of rotation between the two. To test this put on your sunglasses, put the LCD screen in front of you and rotate it (like the movement of the hands if a clock) if you note that the screen becomes dark and unreadable.... You have a problem. Not being able to read your altimeter at any angle is a bad thing. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  12. I would be curious to see if not flaking accelerates wear of the fabric. I suspect that being trapped between the lines may increase wear as the canopy inflates. I also wonder if not flaking increases the risk of a lineover. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  13. Update Skyventure Colorado will be providing FREE Burgers and Dogs on Thursday Evening. The SkyVan will be Flying Friday Morning. Helicopter should be around sometime Friday (Exact time TBD) The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  14. BEWARE OF THE "ZERO-G" EXIT. I have seen video of one which occured last year where the pilot mis-judged and ended up launching the raft and passengers into the overhead of the CASA. There were injuries and some scary moments in freefall. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  15. I wear spectacles with corrective lenses every waking minute (except in the shower). My skydiving eyewear is driven by what kind of jump I am doing. If I am doing a hop & pop, I wear my corrective sunglasses without goggles along with my open-face helmet. If am doing belly flying RW I wear my regular clear corrective spectacles along with my full face helmet. As I age I am becoming WAY more glare sensitive and wear sunglasses when outdoors in the sun when on the ground. However, I find that I don't have trouble with glare in freefall or under canopy (unless looking toward the sun). I suspect that the lack of a reflective surface close under me helps reduce glare when jumping. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  16. 0:10:1 For my first jump as an AFF-I with a real student! The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  17. 1. I REALLY dislike the use of the term “graduation” from the AFF program. It implies completion. AFF is simply the first phase of study and practice. Getting to the A-license involves a lot more that just AFF. 2. “simply belly flying” … If it is so simple, how come it takes years, thousands of jumps, and often hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of tunnel time to train the best belly flyers? By the way… just as most belly flyers can’t freefly well … many freeflyers are mediocre/lousy belly fliers. If you think belly flying is simple… Go ask the experienced belly flying competitors at your DZ to show you video of a 4 way block move with a vertical component, or of a team turning a handful of points on the hill. It ain’t easy. 3. In addition to the skills mentioned in postings above, here are additional important skills to work on during your first 100 jumps: a. Spotting b. Rear riser turns for both fun and collision avoidance. c. Rear riser flares… in case you ever have to land without using brakes. d. Rear Riser stalls and stall recovery… see above. e. Maximum glide… for returning from long spots. f. Flat turns… practice until they are nearly reflexive. They will come in REAL handy someday. g. Landing accuracy… important when your landing area becomes small or cluttered with obstacles. Landing accuracy is also a requirement for licenses A-C. h. Landing safely … stand up when you can, PLF when you can’t! Remember, dirt washes out of a jumpsuit a lot easier than blood. i. Packing… save yourself a hunk of cash and learn about your gear. j. Take a canopy control course (or two). The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  18. Yep!! Also, the walls are really hard! Once you get more than one person at a time flying... the walls take on much more significance! The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  19. Dear "future jumper": Thank you for providing me with the funniest moment of my day! Is it possible for an instructor to do that... You bet. Is that what happened? Nope. I hope you are a delightfuly creative troll. If not.... OMG! The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  20. When you get your rig back, take it to your rigger and throw yourself on his or her mercy saying: "I know nothing about this gear, how much will you charge me to give me a very detailed orientation to my gear?". The odds are good that the cost will be nothing... If you are also asking for him or her to do a bunch of other paid work like assembling your rig, and packing your reserve. Of course, it would have been better if you had bought the Cypres through your rigger, as then he or she would have gotten you the correct Cypres and had even more reason to teach you about it. Knowing you gear is important! Yesterday a jumper asked me for a pre-boarding gear check and the problem I found could have made it impossible for him to find or pull his reserve handle! As we discussed the problem, I discovered that he didn't know enough about how his rig was built to prevent or properly correct the problem. Knowing your gear is NOT optional!!! 22. as above PLUS, when flying a donut remember to fly forward to your grip. If you reach your arm out for the grip you will slide backwards and may contribute to the whole piece turning (if you have the grip). The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!

  24. Yep. At my home DZ, an AAD fire buys 30 days on the ground. Unfortunately, it has been necessary to apply that rule this year. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
