  1. 1. This isn't a new issue with the ARGUS. It is a new episode... of a longer story. 2. You didn't do your homework. 3. Hang on to the ARGUS. It is rather likely that they will solve the cutter problem. Once they do... you get a new cutter and your ARGUS will be as good as it ever was. 4. Learn the lesson from this purchase: caveat emptor! The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  2. I have to carefully clear my ears promptly after every jump. If I don't.... I have full ears for days. However, if I take care of them PROMPTLY...I can jump all day without trouble. Unless I have an upper respiratory infection, I find decongestants to be of no help with my ears when skydiving. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  3. Call 423-949-9499 Ask to speak with George. He knows a lot about that canopy. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  4. As above, Plus: Know the automatic UNsatisfactory criteria for your jump. Avoid those and the rest will likely be ok if you RELAX. HAVE FUN!!! I remember my last coach eval dive fondly. There were three or four candidates on the plane with our evaluators.... We provided entertainment for the fun jumpers with our hypercareful in-plane routines. That was my last jump with my friend who was my evaluator before his untimely death a few weeks later (not due to jumping). 5. Eloy was doing them daily last time I was there. IIRC The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  6. The solution to that is very simple. Buy an analog Alti with a glow in the dark dial. My Galaxy has that feature and it works great on night jumps. WARNING: NOT ALL Alti-2 Galaxys have this feature! It is an optional feature.... But WELL worth the couple of bucks it costs. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  7. I would like the C-182 better if most of them didn't look like they are being held together w/ baleing wire and duct tape. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  8. In the last year I have changed from an Alti-2 Galaxy to an Alti-2 N3 as my primary visual altimeter. I made the change because I have old eyes (and an old brain). I wear progressive trifocals, which have a narrow vertical strip of lens with good near vision. I found that I could not read my analog Alti without turning my head excessively. Also, despite having used circular analog watch and clock faces for decades, even when I got a good look at my analog Alti, I often had trouble interpreting it. Contrary to what you might think, I found that I often had trouble determining what value the needle was pointing to. I broke off early several times due to MIS-reading my analog Alti. Here are the pros and cons about the N3 from my perspective: PRO •Large characters - easier to read •Less mental gymnastics necessary to read data •Canopy alarms let me keep my eyes on traffic and navigation rather than my Alti. •I am finding that knowing my freefall speed after a jump is helping me get better at predicting how fast students will fall. •remarkably durable for a precision electronic device. •waterproof. CONS •Greater snag hazard than my Galaxy •Does not play well with polarized sunglasses •Rechargeable battery requires me to think ahead and check the battery on Thursday night before a weekend of jumping. •I perceive it as being more vulnerable to failure than my Galaxy... Which may or may not be true. •More than twice the price of the Galaxy! I am considering mounting my Galaxy on my rig's mudflap as a backup to my N3. 9. Your search was too specific. I searched Para Gear for "cable"... and look what I found! Para Gear part #: M5825 http://www.paragear.com/templates/base_template.asp?group=162#M5825 The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  10. Given the importance of seeing other canopies to avoid collisions, I found the material linked below to be helpful. The presentation is for pilots, so there is some material that is irrelevant to jumpers. However, there is much really good stuff in this presentation about how our eyes work (and DON'T work) and how to scan our environment to avoid collisions. http://www.atpsafety.com/training/visual_scanning/ The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  11. It is not too late for DZs to conduct a Safety Day this year! Call your DZO and offer to help organize the day! USPA has provided a lot of helpful materials to get you started: http://www.uspa.org/USPAMembers/Safety/SafetyDay/tabid/79/Default.aspx The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  12. Skydive Dallas had a great safety day in 2011. We had lots of seminars and activities... And a nice big crowd of jumpers! A great day! The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  13. if he is still on student status after 30 jumps then i have to say the instructors are not doing their job right then again they may not have givin him the proper bowling speech either
  14. The anatomy of the shoulder is vulnerable to dislocation when the shoulder is in the typical 90/90 deployment position and force is exerted backward on the upper arm. This is a relatively uncommon position and direction of force in other sports. Striking the head of the humerus on the doorframe on exit can directly cause a dislocation. This can happen in a crowded diver exit (such as a speed star) The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!

  16. I like this one: http://www.dauntless-soft.com/products/GroundSchool/rigger.asp It isn't perfect, but it is pretty good. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  17. I don't wear them myself, but I know at least two jumpers who jump with them with great success! The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  18. If PRO packing over my shoulder in the breeze/wind, I find it best to have the canopy upwind and the rig downwind. The wind blows the canopy towards me, and the canopy does not try to fill with air. YMMV The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  19. Smile, Breathe, Relax.... The beer rules allow non-drinkers to substitute another beverage. However, the networking value of walking your case of beer around the DZ and meeting folks is tremendous. Don't over think this. Remember that beer is proof that God loves us. Smile, Breathe, Relax.... The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  20. Save the beer in your basement! Once chilled, it will be PERFECT for you to wear during your SCR ceremony. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
  21. Help judge the blindfolded creeper races. If experienced jumpers are jumping ... Watch landings. Enjoy the videos of the most recent freefall mess which are likely playing on someone's laptop. BE PATIENT. Often the wind will settle down very late in the day and you may get to jump just before sunset. Be nice. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!

  23. A canopy loaded at 1.3 may be too much no matter what it is built of. Here is some great reading for you: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=47 The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
