Tandem Video and Stills Cameras - What should I buy
chaospilot replied to chaospilot's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks for the info guys....so need to upgrade to the CX500 or newer CX model? I may just stick with the XT, but another jumper has the XSI and I can tell the difference in the pictures, so I will just decide on that when the times comes! Thanks again everyone...any other opinions, greatly appreciated. Time for some beers and football...weather in the 20's with wind in NEPA, no skydiving Bryan Cavage, D-19100 AFF I, Tandem I, Vidiot http://www.dropzonesolutions.com -Social Media Consultant and Skydiving Gear Guru -
Tandem Video and Stills Cameras - What should I buy
chaospilot replied to chaospilot's topic in Photography and Video
Looking to upgrade from my current setup (PC109 & Rebel XT on a BatRAk). Will be sticking with Top Mount, Bonehead Mantle Helment. Use for Tandems and AFF Only. Computer Editing. Standard Budget ($1000 for each camera), so I am considering one of the Sony CX's and the Canon Rebel Series. Any recommendations? We usually have one in the spring, followed by a Tandem or AFF Course. Our DZ is located in Northeast PA, Endless Mountain Skydivers. If your interested, send me an email. Try and organize some First Time Tandem Groups for a DZ, as most give referrals for bringing first time students. Good luck, if not Credit Cards are always a good thing also! We used the Go Pro Hero Wide mounted in a Instrument Glove for most of the season, and it worked great! The camera fits in the casing a little tight, but is much easier to use than a standard bulky handcam. With the simple 2 button recording and low profile glove fit, our instructors liked the ease of use! Here is a link to a video our instructor Frank D'Andrea shot a few weeks back using the Go Pro Hero Wide. Over the winter we will be creating our own design for a better fit in the casing, and also switch to HD next year. Tandems loved the alternative video and you have option of just handing them the 2mb SD Card ($6 Cost), or performing some quick editing and burning to CD. Both steps are easy as the SD card can be put in a slot or connected via USB! I would recommend to most TM's or DZO's as an always on Add-on/After the Jump sales items..it can be cheap enough for the TM to just give them the card or burn the footage/PICS to a CD or DVD quick! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga9ScKm1sX8 Check it out..and PM if you need more information! Been trying each online website for selling digital stills and having a heck of a time. I just want to sell my digital stills for one price, no mugs, etc. Any recommendations? If you use your own website, do you recommend a certain web template with ECOMMERCE module? Thanks y'all! They should get a magnetic sign on their SUV and evening or nice days, drive around a little bit looking for people mowing their lawns. Stop, give them a Business Card and move on. If someone offered to mow my lawn for $10, while I was sweating in the hot sun, I could definetly cough up the $10. Hey guys what everyone does at their DZ to drum up business is their call. I saw it as a marketing tool, created a basic marketing campaign for it and decided to pass it along to any DZO's that wanted to take a look and possibly gain a tandem or two from it. With no charge or expectations, just good will of a DZO to DZO. Most of you posting, didn't even ask to see the idea, and are judging based on a post and Travis Pastrana as an extreme athlete. Not the original marketing idea itself. There are lots of positive and negative ways to gain more business in skydiving, and this was an isolated situation, and this was a chance for me to start working with my local Red Bull Distributor (In the marketing idea, in case you read it). I was not planning on buying a new plane from the Tandems I received from it, but with a little bit of leg work, could drum up 20 tandems or so. Which ends up to be gross profit of around $1700 to $1800 for me, and then one or two from that and so on. So is 6 hours of my time worth that money, why yes it is! It's all good..either way the trailer looks pretty bad ass, and I look forward to seeing the movie. If anybody wants to stop by the DZ, make a skydive or base jump, and then shoot the sh&t about skydiving marketing over a beer, I'm sure the whole gammet of ideas we come up with will be pretty impressive! -Bryan Bryan Cavage, D-19100 AFF I, Tandem I, Vidiot http://www.dropzonesolutions.com -Social Media Consultant and Skydiving Gear Guru

As originally stated, the video will contain Skydiving and BASE Jumping in a positive manner. Not an accident on the news, that the media is hyping up. This will be a limited release video with an audience of adrenaline junkies. As a DZO, this is a positive, and any positive marketing of skydiving, leads to more new skydivers. As usual, the dropzone.com junkies who need to put their two cents in, did. It's all good, when you run a DZ, you will see it different, until then post your opinions on an internet forum. I am a DZO from Northeast PA. An Upcoming Extreme Video Event, the Red Bull athlete Travis Pastrana's "199 Lives" will be released on April 16th and 17th. I have put together a marketing idea outline to utilize this video event to promote Tandem Skydives. If your interested email or pm me, and I will pass them along. This will be a great season starter for getting potential skydivers interested in making their first jumps. I have done the leg work..you take advantage of it! My Pc109 has just recently started giving me a problem. The battery is fully charged, but when the camera is powered off, the settings are not being saved. ie. On the ground, set the Focus, and Program AE..turn off for the plane ride, turn the camera back on, the settings are not saved? Does the PC109 have an internal battery for the settings? or is this related to the battery itself? Thanks for the help.
