I'm with you. Not every night mind you, but once or twice a week. I just cannot seem to "turn off" my brain. Alcohol does not help, but 1.5mm of Lunesta will. I get a 6month prescription of 3mg, and then cut them in half. I tend to read until I fall asleep, but that only works 5'ish nights a week. I've tried Bigun's way of poker, but then I go to bed mad b/c a bad beat, or happy/ excited b/c I won some $. It sucks! So I feel your pain. Doug. Here I sit as an "almost 100 jump wonder" thinking that a micro DVR camera attached to my inside wrist would not hurt, AND HELL, I would get some cool video of me in free fall. So I searched about beginning camera jumping. Now I know this topic has been beet to death. I can tell by most of the canned responses. After reading through quite a few of them, I deduced the following. 1: Yes, I could in fact safely jump with a bullet or micro camera attached to my wrist or helmet without fear of entanglement. 2: That I would probably end up concentrating on "getting the shot" as opposed to a safe jump. Not intentionally mind you, but on a subconscious level. So after reading all the comments by older wiser jumpers and listening, I will NOT run out and buy a micro camera so I can get some "cool vid of me jumping to share with the family" This is my way of saying "thanks" to you wizened cynical older jumpers who have heard it all before. Thanks! Blue skies, Doug. Ps what do you'll know about WINGSUITS? I have never developed indigestion from eating my words. Winston Churchill

1/6/1 Friday I got in a H/A clear & pull before the weather closed in. Saturday, I got in 5 good jumps. I crossed the beer line (c license landing area) my second jump by about 5 feet, and got called on it. So, beer owed! I had a hard opening due to a rush pack-job. Ouch! I also had a bad landing. I flared a little too quickly and got a "pop-up" Oof! I spent Sunday on the couch nursing my wounds with scotch. Doug. I have never developed indigestion from eating my words. Winston Churchill

I would like recommendations on a Canopy Course, please.
doug925 replied to doug925's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I (begrudgingly) had to miss Germain's canopy course done at my home DZ, SDSL in late May. My fiancee did not want me to jump just a week prior to our wedding. Part of my deal with her for having to cancel my plans to attend the canopy course, was that I would probably have to travel to another dropzone where I could take the course. Soooo, now that I am married and can get away, where should I go to take some canopy control training? I see Brian in out of the country for a while, so any other schools come to mind? * I primarily want to learn to be safer while under canopy, and to start to learn more advanced controlling techniques. * Thanks, Doug. Skydiver's life insurance just cost me 744 jump tickets!
doug925 replied to doug925's topic in The Bonfire
35 married male, non-smoker, in great health with 500K on a 10 year term with Northwestern Mutual. $14880 over the term in premiums! That equates to 744 jump tickets, or 2 brand spank'n new top-of-the line rigs! Sheesh! At least if I bounce, or get kicked to death by a mule my wife will get one hell of a nice bereavement vacation! After 6 months on the South Beach Diet, I'll take ANY pizza! Preferably, a homemade shrimp, basil, and pesto pizza with an olive oil base sauce. Or a Pappa John's Hawaii n. Give me a beer to wash it down with. I have never developed indigestion from eating my words. Winston Churchill

What to do when she tells you she has a boyfriend
doug925 replied to LongWayToFall's topic in The Bonfire
I agree MOST women do not have a problem with it but when you make the MISTAKE of opening a door for a the ones that do have an issue with it, Be ready to get chewed out. It has happened to me several times and is really sad when it does. Let me just relate a time I went to a Christmas party with my G/F at the time. With the exception of my G/F all the other women in attendance were gay. Now I, as a Southern gentleman will ~always~ open a door for a lady. (among other things) Well, they were having NONE of it. I wasn't doing it for any reason other reason then my Granny raised me that way. I told my G/f about this, and that I was feeling a little uncomfortable just being myself. She replied "You're uncomfortable? YOU"RE UNCOMFORTABLE?! Hell, I'm the only one here that doesn't eat pu...(you know what I'm gonna say) .." From that point on, I treated all the other women there just like "one of the guys" Got along great with all of them after that. :D I have never developed indigestion from eating my words.
