This makes me sick to my stomach! And I was complaining about my insurance going up $30 a month because I have migraines.I guess that's not so bad. The fact is she shouldn't have to leave the country. Our skyrocketing health care and insurance costs are simply not justifiable. Everyone should be able to have health care without selling their home. Especially when we're talking life and death. I'm sorry for your friends terrible misfortune and I wish her all the best. Well said. And just reading undisputable facts of an incident can be very upsetting to family. I have recently had to explain to a non-skydiver why pictures of there loved one were posted.I think I gave them an understanding of it.I hope. Family will come in here regardless of warnings. It's human nature. We should just be aware of it. But, we should never stop looking at, discussing and learning from unfortunate incidents. Not tip-toeing around people's feelings.Just being tactful. Once again, I feel the dialogue regarding an incident should be made in a decent and respectful way without the use of inflamatory wordage.I don't think this should be a challenge.Although I know to some it is.And I'm talking about how a grieving loved one may interpret the words we use.Can we not articulate ourselves well enough to thoroughly discuss an incident without hurting someone who is in enough pain?Just my opinion. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas

The word "stupid" was merely an example.I don't think things need to be sugar coated.Or we need to pretend someone didn't make a mistake. We should be honest and factual.I just said I don't think our choice of words need to be inflamatory. I don't personally care what is said of me when I die.I won't be here.I simply meant, for the sake of loved one's, it's an emotional, sensitive, issue that can and should be discussed with respect and decency. No, mistake is not a negative word.Everyone makes them.I believe it is the most common cause of all incidents. But, saying someone did something stupid implies they were stupid. And is inflamatory to loved ones.Saying someone made a mistake implies they were fallible, and we all are. Teenagers are very computer savvy these days. And when one loses a parent to skydiving they are likely to come here. It's not hard to get in here.(I did) I just hope we can be aware of this and keep things more factual. Absolutely we should discuss and learn from any incident. But, with respect and decency. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. "not a fool doing something stupid" I hope if I were to go in somebody would learn something from the incident. But, I think discussion about a fatality especially should be kept about what happened or might have happened.Excluding uneeded words such as fool, idiot, stupid, dumb. And use words like mistake or not a good idea. You never know when you'll be the one explaining to a teenager who lost a parent, got into the forum, and saw pictures and read posts why people are so insensitive. We can discuss and learn from incidents in a respecful and tactful way.I don't want my children in tears because some dumb ass referred to their dead mother as one. I was told to let them sit in a plastic container unpacked in a climate controlled place. With the PC out of the BOC. I don't want to send them anywhere.Thanks.Sorry I kinda redirected the orginal thread.I should have posted under long term storage. The time has come; which one should I do?
Ms.sofaking replied to b_dog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's what I wanted to point out.Weather.I remember sitting all day and the winds dying down at 5pm in time for my first and last jump of the day. Somedays we waited all day with no jumps. Me myself I went AFF and loved it , but to each there own. But, consider weather when you consider your 4 hour drive. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. I did not know this (about air density and terminal velocity)But, shouldn't your reserve be capable of handling a terminal deployment at any altitude? "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas
-
Forgive me I'm new to the sport, but why would dumping your reserve at 4k be better than up high? Is this just because you said you'd get big and slow down? "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas

How many jumps for skydiving respect?
Ms.sofaking replied to llkenziell's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's funny.I could use one of those. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas -
Thanks. That's probably the case.I'll just have someone who knows something come look at it. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas

Can u learn to fly and film together?
Ms.sofaking replied to Ms.sofaking's topic in Photography and Video
I think that's a great idea. You're right. It would be nice to be very familiar with the equipment before I put it on my head.Thanks. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas -
I don't know if I'm in the correct forum or not. But lately I've been getting knocked off line while I'm here. On a couple of occasions under "who's on line" my name appears twice. Could someone be on a computer somewhere else logging in as me? Or is it just my computer as I have had other problems lately.Laymens terms please. I'm not very computer savvy. How many jumps for skydiving respect?

This is sad.I felt like a part of my DZ family the moment I walked in the door. As I think all of us did. I get as much out of the people there as I do skydiving. I guess I'm lucky to have that. You beat me to it.I'm from a small DZ, and we are a family.I don't know if anyone charges money to jump with someone(I could be wrong)We all help each other out.I myself don't go on more than 2 ways with inexperienced jumpers only for safety reasons. My safety and theirs, as I'm still a beginner. But for the most part we all jump with each other. Isn't that the case at most drop zones? If not I'm happy I'm at my DZ. Can u learn to fly and film together?
Ms.sofaking replied to Ms.sofaking's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks you guys.It would probably be silly to invest in a camera that might be obsolete by the time I'm ready for it.And I'll work on the skills required for photography. I'm a new skydiver. As of now I don't see me getting into lot's of ratings in the future. But, I do know someday I want to do video and stills. At 33 jumps would it be ridiculous to strap a camera on my head when I'm still learning how to fly.Obviously I would need to concentrate more on flying than filming.Or should I just wait until I'm better. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas -
Yeah, but I'm realistically only talking roughly 1 year. I hope in 20 years any gear I have now would be completely worn out. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas

Nick, maybe I should clarify. You're talking to a beginner skydiver. No where ready for BASE quite yet. I'm not sure what loose rigger roll is. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas

I have a somewhat similar question.I have 2 Base rigs that will probably sit for a year. Obviously they will need a repack. But should I store them for this long packed or not?I've heard you should hang a canopy for lengthy periods. I think you just created the first thread the christians and the athiests can come together on.But it will probably take 5 million more posts to debate. "I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. So what could really go wrong? -----Brian Andreas

Wow' I'm glad to hear that. I always wondered what I'd do in that situation. Now I know. I hope my companion doesn't have a fast canopy though. That's probably even harder to steer with one arm. How many jumps for skydiving respect?
Ms.sofaking replied to llkenziell's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I remember people saying you're a skydiver?!?And saying "I'm trying to be"not feeling worthy of saying I'm a skydiver"And a wuffo saying "WOW you have 12 jumps!"When I'm sitting with a group of guys with thousands. They all laughed. Now at 33 jumps I consider myself a skydiver, just very very beginner, who considers peoples number of jumps when seeking advice. But all the jumpers at my DZ have my respect as fellow skydivers.
