In the pictures I saw of one lap pack, the pack appeared to be shaped like an oval, though it wasnt a very good picture, I dont recall. There were so many different types--back, seat, quick attach chests, lap, I think there even was a quick attach seat. I would assume that there are essentially no lap rigs left, except maybe one somewhere in the attic of a 90 year old widows house.

Im pretty sure the lap parachute was just a QAC, Quick attach chest, that had longer risers to let it be attached in the lap area. I believe the reason was for a rear gunner in one of those smaller planes like a dauntless (I forget which type), because with the parachute on the airmans chest, it would get in the way of the gun while swinging it around. I assume for whatever reason they didnt have enough room for a seat parachute.

Usually the owners manual has all of this information, if you are missing it, they can be downloaded from the manufacturers website....It is geared torwards pilots, but good luck trying to get them to read it... "Id never be able to get out in an emergency" "I only have this thing to satisfy the regs" "A friend told me it could stay packed for years without issues" "I used a powerwasher to clean the vomit off it"..... That made me laugh at him. And of course "I need it now, is there anyway you could just sign for it?" The list will only grow larger.

Here is another PC question.....where have they all gone? Ive been trying to find a MKI, (or any other pc class canopy) for at least a year without success.

new jumper @ 1.4333 wing loading
Colson replied to bodypilot90's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Im curious, why do alot of people consider it so fashionable to downsize to "expert" wingloadings as quickly as possible, it seems to be a continous question "when can I downsize". Just having to ask that question would seem like a sign that they should not. What does immediately getting to the smallest size possible get you? -
I saw a "design" somewhere that I never got to read in full but the abstract was slider improvement with an addition of a device to a sail slider that would increase the friction between the suspension lines and slider. I assume the idea was to assist the aerodynamic forces on the slider in retarding the spread of the canopy to allow the designer more precise control over the canopy reefing process, specifically time. Obviously wear would appear to be an issue with this.

If you arent looking for a whole bolt of the stuff, try calling Stong enterprises and ask for a rigger, they have helped me find some hard to get fabrics from time to time. I think Ive seen some strong rigs made from camo material, they may have scrap cuts unusable to them, but big enough for you to make something if it isnt large.

it looks like a center pull, and since it is a pop top, the pins are on the back of the container, so too is the handle.http://thebaser.com/gallery/Deland-jan-2008/100_1188

Already done..how about a 7500ft^2 parafoil...http://kjeldvandruten.3sc.nl/x38.html x38 results and info on large parafoil applications...http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/20070026249_2007023714.pdf srb video, canopy deployment @ 02:43 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhnU3KB_fi0&feature=related I believe they only needed two canopies, but used three for this reason..... They also used a mortar system to deploy two drogues, due to possible contact with the heat shield, and for the same reasons some people put 2 MA1s in a rig Details can be found here, page five discusses recovery....http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19730062665_1973062665.pdf
