  2. The title of that article does not match the rest. He is not suggesting as you are that global warming has stopped. Even if he was, the assertion that lack of change over an 8 year period represents sound evidence that man made factors have no effect would be incorrect, primarily for no other reason then the simple fact that everything has an effect. You cannot change something (increase emissions) without an effect. The reason for the use of "might", "could", "perhaps" is because nobody knows with certainty what effect it will be, however scientific data suggests that pollution from man made sources has the potential to increase average temperature, leading to problems that humans would consider adverse. Naturally people who perceive this hypothesis as requiring them to "give up" something like their SUV tend to reject it.
  3. Or until the pilot decides to reduce power on the good engine, rather then pushing it up trying to climb.
  4. That is disgusting. Why is there a glass cage around the drum set in a church?
  5. I guess what I meant to say was I am under the impression that a 28' reserve would hold together at weights and speeds far greater then 160lbs and 110-120-ish knots. What little info I have on them specifies weight ranges from 180lbs to 295lbs, speeds from 0 to 250 knots, with plotted opening forces at those speeds for pressure altitudes 0-15000 feet.....Durability one would expect in a common ejection parachute....(If you are referencing C9's). I meant it as a question to you not a statement.
  6. 160lbs is considered "obese" and too much for a 28' reserve?
  7. That 2nd pic is in Dan Poynters skydiving handbook, pg 163.
  8. correct. The certification basis for the 7ac was CAR 4a, you were not required to seek approval for aerobatic maneuvers as in part 23, and there are no placards regarding such maneuvers.
  9. Not that I would take a competing manufacturers word as fact, but what would you say about butlers opinion on the preserve 4? http://www.butlerparachutes.com/everythi.htm Last two paragraphs on the last page.
  10. I dont see why the rates cant go up $5-$10. That increase is nothing across 180 days. Not even close to a proportional increase. People should be happy to see only $5 extra.
  11. $$$ aside, would Pioneer even sell one to the civilian/sport market?
  12. Everybody has broken rules. Cloud minimums, airspace, TFRS, undetected paperwork discrepancies, etc. Chances are they were accidental and were glad nobody busted their ass. I cant think of anybody who would bust their friend because he flew his cherokee but forgot to update the W&B sheet. Willfully flying for 10+ years without the required certificate is in a class of its own.
  13. The FAA takes away your certificates (which you didnt have anyway), fines you (maybe), then tells you not to do that again, and hopes you dont. And of course if you go off and fly without a certificate they can always threaten to keep your certificate longer......

  15. This is a good idea, of course, but not the law. Unless the manufacturer (whos instructions must be followed by law) states that this many not be done. OK. You're a rigger and a customer brings you a Raven and a rig and asks you to assemble it. How do you know it's never been jumped as a main? It would be great if whoever used it as a main made sure that fact was known....but that isnt likely to happen. IIRC precision allows only a familiarization jump (I dont have the manual, so do not take that as fact look it up) If it was used as a main for awhile I would expect some signs of wear. Show me the packing card. If it was used as a main, they might have discarded the card. I might go as far as not packing it if there is no known history.
  16. This is a good idea, of course, but not the law. Unless the manufacturer (whos instructions must be followed by law) states that this may not be done.
  17. Is this about "lifespan" or "service life"? The terms seem to keep being interchanged. Are people basing the 20 year descision on the DOM, or the time in service? Retirement from 20 years of repacks seems like it may have some merit, but to say a 1988 C9 just removed from its plastic is junk seems like a waste of gear.
  18. May or may not be relevant to the thread, but it is relevent to your comment....and it is interesting. Especially the "wingsuit". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N--qHBEOEY8
  19. That is 1963, in the Andes. 13000'. Pioneer says "The decision (to use the PC) was based on the canopy's low rate of descent, even at high altitudes, as well as on its maneuverability and reliability. Without the para-commander, the trip would have been extremely difficult"....
  20. From the link... Is there a place to read about this topic?
  21. It is interesting to see how this thread that started as DB Cooper has now grown to include, MLK, bay of pigs, CIA, FBI, Prison breaks....I think JFK has been in here... It is starting to sound like that 80's billy joel song. There are certainly enough references to many different headline news events. Im sure he knew Bob Lazar from their work together at S-4....
  22. Does anybody know an approximate release date for dave? I am wondering if I should mail to the hospital or if he will be out by the time it got there in 3-4 days and I should send to the house? Thanks
  23. That is already in place, it is called the certificate holder.... Suprise, if you've got an FAA ticket in you pocket, you are actually responsible for something. The regs are there, the FAA is there, and they are trying to do their job. The last Inspector I talked with gave me the old "you guys in the field are the best and first line of enforcement". The problem with that is those that are making the decisions, and should be held responsible (the owner/operators) don't have to have any certificate. I find it hard to believe that there would not be at least one certificate holder at a DZ. Unless the persons flying, working on the plane, and packing reserves dont have them. It doesnt matter if the certificate holder is the person doing wrong or simply observing it, they have an equal responsibility to stop those activities. Doing otherwise is a huge disservice to aviation as a whole. The FAA has, though lack of staffing-not by choice, has pushed the frontline enforcement down to the level of the certificate holders in hopes that people would act responsible, not interpret it as being given freedom.
  24. Jumpers will never self regulate. If the guys dishing out the cheapest crack, which one of the bums is going to call the cops??
