Google's prize is a good idea, but don't downplay the contributions the aerospace industry has made to common transportation. The development of an alternative fuel vehicle...one that meets the specs laid out by Google....will depend heavily on materials and processes first developed by the aerospace folk.

Post your predictions for 2008 US elections.

Dems: Hillary Repubs: Wide open at this time Repubs win the White House with a middle-of-the-road candidate who manages to distance himself from Bush. Though Hillary will get the Dem nomination there are too many swing voters who will not vote for her under any circumstances and too many who will vote for anyone running against her. -
If it weren't for those companies who "don't really give a flying shit about our sport except for the dollar signs it represents" there are many sports that would still be operating in the dark ages. The money these corps bring in allow advances in technology and safety that would not be possible without them. Auto racing is a good example. Before the days of huge corporate sponsorships the drivers lives most often depended upon whatever local rescue crews could be rounded up by the sanctioning body. Almost without exception these crews had no idea what they were doing when it came to the trauma associated with high speed racing injuries and many died because of it. If you want further details read the book "Rapid Response" by Dr. Stephen Olvey.

Gangsta Style Shootout Puts Stop To Peewee Football Game
willard replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
They must have forget to yell, "Mutha Fucka!" at each other while shooting. Everyone knows that is an important and integral part of the "Gangsta Style". -
The one good thing about competing against cheaters....There is nothing quite like the feeling you get when you design, build, and drive your own car according to the rules and still beat those who are cheating. It really pisses 'em off.

Q: How do you get a Michigan cheerleader into your dorm room? A: Grease up the doorway and push really hard. Q: How long does it take a Michigan football team to drop out of the rankings from #5? A: 1 game. No joke. Go Buckeyes!

Britain saves power by flying solar powered planes at night....
willard replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
I had a darkness powered car once. But every time I turned on the headlights the motor would quit. -
She had nothing to feel guilty about but, as you mentioned and made me think about, she could be made to feel guilty if she didn't have the self confidence to stand up against the SW crewman.
-
OK, then imagine in Sit #2 that I also have the power to ban you from the only bar in town. Would you feel hard done by then? Nope. I would go to another town where there was a bar that respected my business.
-
I am glad that you are so confident and self assured. But many aren't. and if someone started yelling at someone else, whether it was truly their fault or not, some don't have that strength of character to defend themselves. She didn't. I don't know that I would (I would like to hope that I would, but I don't know) Some would feel berated even if they didn't do anything wrong. Again we agree.
-
Agreed 100%. But the fact is that what one wears DOES have consequences. What should happen and what does happen are two different things. Re-read my posts. Nowhere did I say she deserved or "asked for" what happened. And I'm not allowed to call you a fucking asshole either, so i won't. At least not here.
-
Uh, no. Words have specific, defined meanings. If your opinion does not match the definition of the word then you are wrong. Not right in a different sense, just wrong. To Berate means to scold or rebuke - regardless of whether she felt she desreved to be berated, the fact is that she was berated. Lets give an example - scenario 1) We're in a bar and you nudge my elbow and cause me to spill my pint, I turn around and call you a fucking idiot. Scenario 2) I spill my pint because I'm clumsy. I decide to blame you and turn around and call you a fucking idiot. Is situation 1 the only situation in which I have berated you? Which situation would cause you to feel a greater sense of injustice? Sit. #1 of course. I would apologize and offer to buy you a pint even though you obviously overreacted to the situation. In Sit. #2 I would be laughing at you for being a clumsy drunken fool. I would in no way feel berated because I would have been secure in the fact that I had done nothing wrong.

Not too long ago, rape could have been added to this list. Thank god, as time goes by, society seems to slowly realize that a way a woman acts or dresses does not excuse stupid behavior. Whether a woman wears a thong in public, a US Marines uniform, or a plain ugly Kathy Lee dress from Walmart does NOT warrant whistles and such (except in porn movies). Please go back and re-read my posts. I agree 100% that what a person wears does not warrant stares, gawks, whistles, etc. but it is a fact of life that there are tasteless creatures lurking around who do those things. For someone to wear a skirt that short and expect not to encounter such acts is unreasonable. It would be great if it were otherwise, but that's just not the case.
-
Why? Because i thought the crewman was being a jerk?
-
WRONG! She WAS berated. Regardless of whether she felt what she was wearing was appropriate or not. She was called in front of the plane and publicly chastised. This is not because she felt she was wrong, rather because she had no power in that situation. He (the male flight attendant) had all the power at that moment, and she was just trying to bargain to ensure that she was able to stay on the plane. BOTTOM LINE - "Keith" was wrong. As an agent of Southwest, Southwest was wrong. She deserves an apology. You have your opinion, I have mine. Neither is "wrong" in the sense that your opinion reflects your values and beliefs. I still feel if she felt "berated" it was because she wasn't 100% comfortable in her attire. You are free to disagree with that. I do, however, agree with you that SW owes her an apology...a PUBLIC aopology...and nothing more.
-
She's pissed because she was berated in public. Because of her age, I can understand how that would be upsetting to her. With all due respect, she could only be berated if she felt her attire was inappropriate. If she truly felt there was nothing wrong she would have held her head up like she did on TV and stood her ground. Instead she begged the crewman to allow her to stay, offered to "cover up", and then felt ashamed of her appearance. Her age means little. If she feels she is old enough to choose to wear revealing attire, she better be old enough to understand the implications of such. Stares, gawks, wolf-whistles, etc. are to be expected, yet it is the stares she is upset about. Does she even KNOW what the other passengers were thinking? Maybe they were thinking the crewman was being a jerk and wondering why he wouldn't leave this girl alone. I know I would be.
-
I'm in no way trying to say it was "her fault" or imply in any way, shape, or form that she deserved it. She did not. What I am saying is that she should not be surprised at the attention she received, though not the kind she expected. Should she have been humiliated? No, but I'm sure that was not the intent of the crew. I also feel that she is overreacting to the situation, but I have a feeling you will disagree with me on that.
-
point #1) I agree 100%. But if she honestly felt the same way, why would she be embarrassed? point #2) What others on the plane thought is not relevent. So we end up back at point #1 and the same conclusion and the same question...why would she be embarrassed? point #3) From what I understand of what you wrote (some of it I fail to see any relevence) I can agree with exept for one thing. Yes, she wore it because she thought it looked nice. A skirt like that is also meant to grab attention. She isn't pissed because she was thrown off the plane, she wasn't. She isn't pissed because she was made to change clothes, she wasn't. She isn't pissed because she missed he important meeting, she didn't. She is pissed because she was made aware of the fact that people were looking at her. If I strip off all my clothes and run through a bowling alley, naked as a jaybird, and someone yells, "Hey! Look! A streaker!" do I have the right to sue him because he put more attention on me than I wanted ?
-
I see your point, I think. Kinda like she wanted to grab everyone's attention, but didn't want to know when they looked.
-
Bullshit, that sort or rationale is unbelievable I happen to think your rationale is bullshit, so there. If she isn't prepared for everyone on the plane to stare at her ass then she shouldn't have worn a skirt that shows it off. It's not the other passengers nor the crew who decided she was going to wear that outfit. HER ATTITUDE is a good case of people not accepting any and all consequences for their actions and the decisions they make.

Candy Dulfer She be HOT!
-
I just watched the video. She is pissed because she was made the center of attention for a while on that flight. But isn't that why she wore a short skirt in the first place...to get attention?? If they had actually thrown her off i could see her getting pissed, but not after she was allowed to stay on. Her feeling uncomfortable was her own doing, not theirs.

is From what I see the "majority" is doing pretty well representing themselves at least in small claims courts. Maybe that is YOU who are the exception, and, by far, is better off paying for their legal services - no matter how small? You are confusing minor stuff with legal issues that can result in loss of money and freedoms, and maybe gain a person a few days to a few years behind bars. I believe I made that clear. If not, then I am now. Now, if you have had enough of this petty bickering, maybe you would care to comment on the actual thread. If not then start one of your own.

Bin Laden Calls for Americans To Convert to Islam
willard replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
You Bush-bashers are getting slow. Two other posts were made before you had to start picking on the ol' chap. Next thing you know a whole 5 minutes will go by without somebody posting something nasty about him, and once that happens Bin Laden won't have a chance in Hell of converting ANY Americans to Islam.
