  1. What an unfortunate weekend it was too! A number of teams had come down to Florida who had to leave before we finally got around to the only round. The options being explored in the event one round could not be completed were to use the results from the 2002 NSL Playoffs, reschedule the event, or cancel it and not have a champion for 2002. Luckily it all worked out and we were able to get one round off. It wasn't as much fun as having a full meet but at least it was completed. As a side note, the NSL is completely seperate from USPA and makes its own rules.

    Exits

We have 5 hours with Shannon Pilcher, Ian Bobo, and David VanGreuningen. Not to mention their continuing support as well as help from Kyle Collins and Eric Taylor. They're some of the best guys we've met and our improvement is largely attributed to them. :-P
  3. I have a friend who puts a Nitron 150 into an OJ and another who puts a Stiletto 150 into a TJN. It can be done :-)
  4. I would like to be able to do tandem videos but do not want anything huge on my head like I see some people wear. I would also eventually like to video 4-way teams or even some freeflying. I really don't have my heart set on anything right now.
  5. Hi! I am wanting to get started in aerial photography but don't know much about it right now. I was wondering what types of cameras and camcorders are best liked and what kinds of setups are used. Thanks!
  6. Keep looking around on dropzone.com and enclave.com, even the newsgroup. Also contact dealers such as square1. They carry several used canopies. You can more than likely find a safire in your size. BTW, what size canopy are you looking for? Wing-loading? Exit-weight? Also, you could look into Sabres, Sabre2s, Spectres, or another Triathalon. I flew a Safire while going through AFF and bought a Sabre for my first canopy. I flew another smaller safire after that before I went elliptical. Both are great canopies, especially for low jump numbers. They are forgiving yet you can do enough with them to learn how to fly. Good luck!
  7. We had to send some of our club's expert cypreses off for their 4-year check recently. A few jumpers felt uncomfortable jumping without a cypres so we moved one of the student cypreses out of a J7 currently not being used into a J3 with a Pro 170 that several jumpers use. Last weekend one of our members performed a 360 front riser turn...which managed to fire the cypres at about 600 feet AGL. Several jumpers who witnessed the event said the 2 canopies were heading for a downplane quickly. Luckily for him he saw the lines were clear and knew to cut away the main quickly. He landed the reserve and was just fine. Definitely made for an interesting situation.
  8. Congrats Clay. And what a beautiful landing it was too. :-)
  9. One of my teammates jumps a Synergy 170. A few weeks ago he had a broken steering line and broken C line on opening. Fun stuff.
  10. 1. It usually doesn't do anything - your main will not depart since it's still in the container _________________________________________________ So lets say you have a pilot chute in tow and don't cut it away before going to the reserve. Wouldn't it be possible for the force of the reserve opening (or even just the change in position when pulling the reserve handle) to dislodge the main d-bag and possibly allow the canopy to inflate?
  11. The Javelin I bought about 15 jumps after student status did not have an RSL installed on it, which was good because I would have disconnected it anyway. There are obviously many reasons to have or not to have one. And as it was earlier stated, everyone should look at those reasons and decide what is right for him or her. For me, I did not like the possibility of the RSL getting caught on something and deploying the reserve. Also, if I had a very unstable cutaway from a mal, I would want the extra second to get stable again before my reserve was deployed. Ironically enough, the very first jump on my gear resulted in a cutaway, and everything was fine. But definitely read the forums and decide what is best for you.
  12. OK, the point was made that this dive was potentially dangerous. However, in this case, everybody was experienced and were careful. We all had a blast - especially my team. It meant a lot to us that those 7 people cared enough to want to come out and have some fun with us...because we had been working so hard and 2 of us were celebrating our 100th jump. They opted to remind us why we are up there...to be in the sky and have fun. And that is exactly what we did. Can we please just leave it at the fact that yesterday in Georgia 13 skydivers had an absolute blast on their last jump of the day?
  13. Its all good...myself and one of my teammates had just had our 100th jump...and a lot of people decided to join us. But a few had hovered around us before they got us so we were aware of their presence. And like Clay said, they were all experienced enough to make it safe. :-)
  14. Yea I'm around on here. :-) And we appreciate the offer to cover the slots but we were more than happy to take care of it...that was so much fun...and that is what skydiving is all about. I'll never forget turning from the hook to the unipod to pick up grips and to my surprise seeing Trey grinning like an idiot and the next thing I know getting taken out by 7 free flyers. It was a blast. I guess we'll have to be watching the door on our way out from now on....:-) See ya next weekend! Allison
  15. ___________________________________________________ Jump#7....7 way cluster dive!!! The Georgia Tech 4 way team has been practicing a lot lately. (Watcher is on that) Well.....we got together 7 free flyers and chased them out the door. Funneled their formation and then took off on a nice sunset tracking dive. Everyone had a great time on that dive and the Tech students loved it!!! I don't think I have ever seen 12 people laughing so hard in free fall before. Made for great video too!!! ___________________________________________________ And might I add that our 4-way team had absolutely no clue that they were going to chase us down like that...It definitely made for a great dive..and we really needed that. Thanks guys! Allison
  16. Well, he started pro-packing the Synergy but lately he's been psycho packing it. A few of us have found our particular canopies open softer and more on-heading with the psycho pack. As far as openings, they had been good until last weekend when he broke a steering line and C line on opening. When our DZO called the manufacturer, their reply was "somebody needs to learn how to pack." Well, there was nothing wrong with his pack job and the canopy only had all of 30 jumps on it. Thats about as much I know about his canopy other than the fact that he loves it. You can email me and I will give you his email address if you'd like to ask him any questions. 17. One of my teammates jumps a Synergy 170. He says it is comparable to the Icarus Omega.
  18. I think the tunnel time would be a help also. That way you will learn to fly your body and will be comfortable with your skills. Since you will be comfortable with your freefall abilities, you will hopefully relax much more next time you tackle level 6 since you know you can do it.
  19. Once you start getting into more complex dives with other jumpers, be it RW or Freeflying, you'll really like having the audible to let you know when you're getting close to pull time, so you can concentrate on the dive and not have to look at your altimeter every few seconds.
  20. My exit weight is 125. I put about 20 jumps on a safire 149, and about 80 so far on a sabre 135 which I load at .9:1. I have a safire 119 waiting for me, but I'm not jumping it until I am completely satisfied with my landings on the 135. And that is my advice - keep the bigger canopy until you are insanely bored with it.
  21. I completely agree with you as well - helmets should not be required. There are definitely advantages and disadvantages to both wearing and not wearing one. But in some situations I think they serve a useful purpose - for example learning a new discipline as you said. In my situation, I was jumping with somebody who has little to no RW experience and a low jump number (not that I have hundreds of jumps myself either). Sometimes your own awareness and control just can't stop some things from happening. :-) Allison
  22. Yesterday I was making a simple 3-way RW dive with a teammate of mine and another jumper. After the open accordian exit funneled, the other jumper managed to kick me in the face exceptionally hard, breaking the lens to my full-face in half, not to mention the insane headache I've had ever since. Just imagine what would have happened had I not been wearing the helmet. Just wanted to let some of you know that helmets serve a purpose long after student status...they aren't there just to make you look "uncool." Blue Skies and Soft Landings, Allison
