Wing suit + C130 Herc + beach in Uruguay = Happy me
fergs replied to aubsmell's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Aubrey, Mate, have a great time. Next time we get together for a beer I'll tell you about all of the free C130 jumping I did a year or two back somewhere in the Middle East. Some of the loads was only 10 or 11 of us onboard. Life is good - you'll have a ball. Blue Skies, fergs -
Travis, Hmmmm, bottom of container .... the manual .... should be worthy of taking seriously. Life is good - ain't packing fun?!! fergs

Some years ago I was passing through Turkey on vacation. I hooked up with a club near Ankara and made some nice skydives. Was a bit of a hassle to organise, as I had to do lots of paperwork in Ankara first. Hope things are less beurocratic these days. Good Luck, fergs

Phil, I've jumped at Honda Airport DZ a few years back. A great bunch of skydivers - a nice caravan - stunning visuals including Mt Fuji on a clear day. It's an easy train ride from Tokyo to the north. Definately recommended. Blue Skies, fergs

Shit!! How do I get the damn thing in the bag!?!?
fergs replied to Jeth's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've been psycho packing for years - it's the easiest way to bag a canopy - especially new ones. Openings are always the same - soft and on heading. Mind you, probably not per manufacturers recommendations, so all is at our own risk. Blue Skies, fergs -
OK, here's a pic of a Kreuger in flight. They were a bitch to take a grip on - all too easy just to have your hand literally bounce off when grasping. If you missed the gripper, pretty much bad luck. But great fun to jump - especially for we fast fallers back in the days when all were trying to fall slower... Am I still top bidder? Does $12.50 take it? Blue Skies, fergs

Hey Justin, I bought it from PD-Source. Blue Skies, fergs

Hi Justin, Thanks for the detailed post. Any arrangements for out US Mirages? I'm in Australia - nearest facility is Parachures Australia in Sydney. Blue Skies, fergs

Aussies - Skydiving on Today Tonight
fergs replied to Travman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Bobby, you really miss Oz and our babes, it seems? And you're also missing our nice summer weather at the moment. Can you slip back for a week end february for the Moruya boogie - it's down on the beach south of Sydney and will be a real blast!!! take a look at http://www.funnyfarm.com.au/moruya.html for details. Otherwiswe all is well here in Australia since you left. The breweries have been able to go back to normal production and the Sydney beach babes now feel safe again. Blue Skies, fergs -
Here's some from 1976 or 77. Self on Strato Star, Graeme Windsor on Strato Cloud. We didn't have much finesse back then - but we had a lot of fun. Mind you, we didn't know any different. fergs

hehehehe - not wanting to hijack this thread - but I have the aircombat option already developed ... Tally Ho! f

Hey Aubrey, Well how about slipping back to Oz for a beach boogie at Moruya, on the south coast. It's Feb 26 to mar 6 and will be a blast!!! Have a fun Christmas. Life is great!!!! Blue Skies, fergs -
Hi Fergs, the funny farm website isn't working. The website is down for some days for upgrading, apparently. So keep an eye on it over next few days. fergs
-
... not sure why the web site is down - will make some calls to find out. The boogie will cater for all skydiving disciplines - so whatever you want should be there. Blue Skies, fergs
-
.... and don't forget the Moruya Boogie - Feb 26 to Mar 6. It's much closer to Canberra than Nowra. Details at : http://www.funnyfarm.com.au/moruya.html Jumpships will be Skyvan and Beaver - all 14,000'. Moruya is a great spot - and there's a camp ground right next to the DZ. Town is a short 5 or 6 kms away. So best you get some vacation planned and booked for some or all of this boogie. Blue Skies, fergs

Wingsuiters, A wingsuit jump is certainly no ordinary skydive. There are hazards and events that we are subjected to that are unique to wingsuit. On any type of skydive we are all aware of the need to protect all cables. That is what we were all taught as first jump students. The same rule goes for any wingsuit jump we make - only THIS TIME we are responsible for more cables. Be aware - and be wary: On all BirdMan suits, we have up to 3 cables and handles that are prone to having their hook velcro catch on anything handy. This includes the carpet on floors and cabin walls of many jump ships. Any BirdMan suit is prone to this - but Classic I's perhaps even more at risk. The attached pics shows a jump where the jumper caught an arm wing on the cabin carpet by the door.On exit, the cable stayed in the aircraft. He did not even realise it was missing during the flight. The suit is a classic I. I suspect the effect of a missing cable would be much more pronounced with a GTi or Skyflyer. This was an arm wing. Had it been an LQRS cable that became caught and removed, the result would be downright dangerous. I think that this has happened to at least one wingsuiter. I can vouch for the ease in which the LQRS cable can be caught - it happened to me recently - fortunately it was before takeoff and was noticed by another jumper when it was only a little dislodged. So take care and stay safe. Guard your cables and handles. Blue Skies, fergs

Ed, Thanks for the offer - but I think I've now got the problem solved. As I I think it to be a very important seperate subject, I'll start a new thread. Plus it will not then create the dreaded "thread wandering" in here. Blue Skies, fergs

Quote I replied to Fergie's post to have a laugh with his smart-ass self reply] Oh Kim, you flatter me .... hahaha Anyhow, there is another very important issue here regarding correct cable length as well as wingsuit hazards whilst in the aircraft. It is the possibility of a cable being inadvertantly caught on the carpet inside your jump-ship (hook-pile velcro is very good at this for those who haven't thought of it). Anyhow, I have some great pics to show what happens when you leave a cable inside the aircraft. Unfortunately they are all over the size limit of what I can attach here. So can someone help me? How can I reduce the size of JPEG's? Help me out and I'll dazzle and excite you!! Blue Skies, fergs

I'm relatively new to the sport - first jump 1973 - so don't know what this butt bungie thingy is.

Moruya - southn east coast of Australia - 26 Feb to 6 March 2005. Here's the link; http://www.funnyfarm.com.au/moruya.html Sorry, no idea how to make it clicky. Blue Skies, fergs

OK, here's the BirdMan magic. I have loop handles - so this will work for loop - not sure about pillow. First take a look at your arm wing cable handle. You'll see the cable disappear into a channel in the handle and another one come back out beside it. Guess what? It's the same cable that does a Uturn in the handle webbing channel. Now the magic. The way the handle is designed, you can actually push the two cable lengths down into the webbing of the handle. The same goes for the LQRS cable. So if it's too long when threaded, go back to the handle and milk the excess into it. Problem solved. Blue Skies, fergs

Bobby, Hmmmmm ..... makes me think about those demos.... with your S3. tempting? fergs

A coupe years back I was on vacation in Japan, with wife and kids. I had two weekends jumping at Honda airport, north of Tokyo. They have a Caravan, which is kept in the air by a very enthusiasic bunch of local jumpers. No, I didn't get an ice cream from the owner - but did get given endless beers at the end of each day. Sure, cost was high relative to the US and some other places. But everything is expensive i Japan(including vacations with teenage kids!!!!!), so it was just another expense necessary for supporting our skydiving habits. Anyhow, you'll love it. Incisdentally, it's the only place I've been to where most of the jumpers can stand without bending over in a cessna caravan, ha. Blue Skies, fergs
