  2. It's an American thing. In the UK we only do spooky for Halloween, which makes sense since, you know, it's a spooky day. In the States it's a free-for-all. Which makes no sense at all. ------------------------------------------- We wouldn't expect you to understand since we don't understand why you drink warm beer in the UK. :)
  3. I hope that isn't crap beer in your hand for the collapsed pilot chute, I know how much you like some Bud Light
  4. Derrick your club puts on one GREAT boogie!! After nationals your club was so welcoming and friendly to all the newcomers and was so much fun. Look forward to your club's next event Todd
  5. hey Mike any new details to pass along about this camp? I had a blast doing 9 way jumps with Raul (sp??) in Wisconsin and look forward to the next camp. Not sure if this would be the right camp to go to since you said it might be geared towards newbies. Getting worried about my BASE canopy being delivered in time for bridge day so wanted to see if this camp would be a better event to go to. Todd
  6. Maybe if we are lucky it was a cast member from "Jersey Shore" who got tossed out of the plane.
  7. Pinks hot dog stand, well worth it!!!
  8. I had it explained to me one time why there are beer rules. On top of the obvious, that we want to drink! You have done something for the first time and you want to celebrate with everyone. So you buy a round of drinks so that when you say what you did for the first time that everyone can raise a drink and toast with you. That helped me understand the tradition and not just think it was some rookie ploy to get others to buy beer for you.
  9. I still have my dolphin that I learned to freefly with. It was the second container that I bought and I sent it to Mike at Altico to have the mods done to the container. I had the riser covers replaced with the tuck tabs, reserve cover replaced with the tuck tabs and the BOC replaced with a new one that had a bridle cover. I think I spent about $350 for the mods and it was like getting a near new container back. I was freeflying for over two and a half years and about 250 jumps with no problems flying head up, head down, back flying or tracking. I have since bought a Javelin container since I down sized and use my dolphin only for CRW now. Before I got the Javelin I didn't see the problem with the Dolphin and jumped with a few other people who had Dolphins and were good freeflyers. I can see a WORLD of difference between the two containers and not to say that I now feel unsafe to freefly the dolphin but I feel so much better about the Javelin. The advice that I can give is that you better fill up your dolphin with the reserve and the main canopy, you do not want any slack material. When I downsized my main canopy the main canopy tray was now loose and did not hold enough pressure on the bridle cover to hold in the bridle in a sit fly. I did one jump with the smaller main and a friend told me that my bridle was loose in the air behind me while I was sitflying, but it did not deploy. That was my last freefly jump with the dolphin and I bought the Javelin the following day. I did enjoy freeflying my dolphin and I learned a lot but I feel even better now know that it is only my CRW container. FYI, I had about 57 jumps when I bought the Dolphin so I can understand what the OP is thinking right now with his decision. Good luck with it and if you can't afford a higher end container then send the Dolphin back to Altico and get the mods done.
  10. At my last job I would take advantage of the nooner at work and it made the afternoon SOOO nice. She was terrible at clean up so a few extra minutes were needed before going back to my cubicle
  11. This has to be the shortest post I have ever seen you write
  12. Or what would that do to the swoopers??
  13. I would agree that the center rotations and runbacks are the first exercises for a CRW camp. But you really do need to get rid of that canopy, might be why so many views and few replies. CRW is done on 7 cell canopies for a reason and while your 9 cell Safire can teach you about proximity flying and some CRW basics you are really limiting yourself. Get under a 7 cell like Tri, Spectre or Lightning and you will see your skills increase very fast. This may not be the advice you are looking for but CRW is not learned on the internet, it is learned in the air with the right equipment. Good luck and hope you stick with it.

  15. When I have friends come out and make thier first jump I tell them that the still pictures are the best to get. A video is nice to help relive the moment but it really is a pain to have people gather around a TV and watch the video. Stills can be hung up anywhere and tell the story without ever having to hit play. I still have my first AFF VHS and have watched it a couple of times over the years but I always like looking at stills. Whatever just get them in the plane and huck them out the door!!
  16. I thought it was min of 200 jumps if you get wingsuit instruction and coaching or min 500 to just put on a wingsuit and try not to die.
  17. Guess that means after setting a vertical formation record during the day it needs to be repeated at night
  18. I always thought I had a white reserve but come to find out it is black with a white center cell. I thought it was so pretty to look at that I had to remind myself to make it back to the DZ and land.
  19. yeah, but he should wait for a bit before starting CrW Yeah he should start with proximity flying and then the transition to CRW will be easy
  20. I feel bad for most of the people who have posted that for only 50 to 60 seconds nothing else matters, come do a CRW jump and get 10 minutes of zen. Plus you get to fondle some nylon and dacron. Since I learned to fly as a teenager before skydiving flying CRW is the best way I know to really feel alive and one with your canopy. Just like in freeflying you have to work on 3 dimensions and requires so much thought and concentration that when it goes well it is so refreshing. Not to mention that during those ten minutes there is no one bitching at you why you don't pay attention to them enough.
  21. When you are on a commercial flight that just happens to be an Otter and you keep looking out the window to spot the airport. You also happen to look around and see that they send up the plane with only 10 passengers and instantly makes you mad at your DZ.
  22. I was in the same boat as you learning how to do CRW jumps with all the wrong equipment. I took a CRW class and then bought a lightning and have learned more in 50 coached jumps then I ever did just messing around learning on my own. If you were above the stack then it sounds as if you were in the right place to dock on the formation. So using the front risers would have helped you sink into your slot and be able to pin your target. Ideally you want your canopy topskin to pin your target right on the reserve, then the lower skin should be at your targets waist and lines right at their feet. Something else to think about is a stack is an inefficient formation that will lose altitude quickly without much forward drive. Keep this in mind when you are setting up to fly your approach. While the other two canopies take thier dock you should stay about equal with the bottom person then when they dock you will see them sink out on you. At this point you will now use the front risers to fly into your slot. This is something that is practiced at a begginer CRW camp and also how to use all the controls on your canopy. You may already know how to use front and rear risers, harness input, toggle turns and a combination of cross controls, but you don't know how and when to use them for CRW. A CRW class will teach you when to use each control depending on where you are and how to join formations. CRW is a great sport and can be taught in a safe manner that you can then go back to your 9 cell and really have some great knowledge. Try to find a CRW dog to teach some techniques or take a CRW camp and have fun.
  23. In the process of getting set up in the college system, student IDs, class schedules, financial payment, how did this person do all of that without proof of citizenship? That's what leads me to believe that the college made a huge mistake in the admissions process and helped to support bringing the student back to cover its mistake.
  24. SO after reading this story I had to wonder if the college is really trying to cover it's own ass or really help this student http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/05/12/ga-college-steps-hep-illegal-immigrant-student/ Having worked in an admissions office of a college for a few years I know first hand the process of getting students accepted into college. So how did this illegal immigrant get accepted into this school? I hope this is not the case but did this student also get any federal aid? That would be very upsetting if an illegal immigrant can get federal money to go to college but other CITIZENS get denied. I am sure I will get burned at the stake for this but I don't see this as a feel good story.
