Should South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford quit/be impeached?
JohnnyD replied to BrendaHupp's topic in Speakers Corner
Absolutely. How many of his constituents would still have a job if they just didn't show up for a week? -
Very interesting for sure. Weigh ins today and pics will be up on the dog.

Press conference was today. Holy crap - Anderson is as big as Forrest.

Or, is is because the down side makes them look stupid?

I never once mentioned a magic wand. Johnny - If you think that the answer to helping the poor is to get them more in debt and increase their debt to income ratio... they you are being completely unrealistic. If you think that some Govt program that encourages them to go into debt is a solution to really help the poor and elevate them from poverty ... they you are living in a fantasy world. I ...... forget it. -
If you take the numbers in the context of the events that were occurring then and now, they really aren't that surprising at all. If you can't wrap your brain around that, then they're just numbers and smiley faces.

Ron - I totally understand what you are saying, but if you think you can just wave your magic wand and the American public as a whole is going to become as financially responsible as you are, you're completely unrealistic. -

Wow. Your concern with our nation's debt is commendable, but focusing on this plan is like getting a cup of water out of the ocean and thinking it makes a difference. This program isn't about increasing debt. It's about putting reliable transportation within the reach of people who may not otherwise have been able to afford it. If you are a cash only guy, great for you. The reality is that most people don't have the cash laying around to just go and buy a car outright. If they do and something happens to the car, they are screwed because they don't have the cash laying around to fix it or buy another car. I know you've been lucky with cars, but a lot of people aren't. The people taking advantage of the C4C program would have financed a vehicle anyway. With the program, they can afford a quality new fuel efficient vehicle - with a warranty. -
Why would that be a surprise? Seems about right. If you compare the first six months of Obama to Bush you could make the comparison that Obama has inherited two wars. One of which is an absolute failure and an international embarrassment. Also the worst recession since the Great Depression. If they do the comparison at the nine month mark it will be far more skewed. Bush's approval rating at the nine month mark was very high. Obama's will not even be in the ballpark. But, nine months does not a presidency make. In short - so?

What part of "THIS PROGRAM GETS PEOPLE TO INCUR MORE DEBT" do you not understand? I got it... you only want to LOOK like you are helping them... Not actually help anyone. There is just no amount of evidence that will convince some people. I'm not sure why you are projecting your very narrow set of circumstances on the American public, but I guess you are the epicenter of your universe. Here's another bonus to this plan that no one has brought up yet: You take your POS 1996 Explorer with over 100k miles on its last leg in and trade it for a Prius or the Honda version (not sure what that one is called) or an Escape Hybrid. Guess what - in addition to the 4,500 dollar C4C there is also a tax credit for purchasing a qualified hybrid vehicle. This plan isn't perfect - not by a long shot, but I can't remember a gov't plan that made me say: That is really helping some people out. -

Well since it WAS NOT FROM THE DOT... I guess it was from the salespeople. Amazingly, you support the idea of poor people going more into debt... so much for you caring about them. If you're driving and old Explorer over 100k miles, how long do you think its going to be before you're going to have to pay cash for a different POS car when your current POS car dies? I see this as a great chance for people to get reliable transportation at a good price instead of throwing good money after bad at POS cars. -

Perfect example: #1 Car traded in so far is a 1998 Ford Explorer If that car has about 100k miles on a 4dr 8cyl engine, its value is about 2,800 in fair condition. Just how much money in repairs and parts are you putting in that vehicle? As little as possible. If you can get 4,500 for it, what are the odds you turn it in for something else? Where do I sign? For reference, the next two most popular trade ins were the 1997 and 1996 Ford Explorer. -

I agree. But so far, I haven't heard a good rebuttal to the concern that the supply of affordable older, used cars (and their parts) will tighten, to the detriment of lower-income people. It's fascinating to see how the righties have suddenly developed this concern for low income people, after decades of indifference or hostility. It's my concern, too; and I'm not a rightie. As someone who has driven a few lower value vehicles, I don't get this argument. I nursed those things along with the absolute minimum of repairs/expense until they were on their last leg or worse and then got rid of them. Had the C4C program been around when I had them, I would have been far more motivated to spend my money if I could get that deal. -

WRONG. He was classed 1A before Rhodes. And WRONG again - to be an ROTC cadet, he was SUPPOSED to be attending the Univ. of Arkansas. At what point does continuing to argue about irrelevant events that occurred 40 yrs ago just get to be pathetic?

I agree there is no way you can count Forrest out. Also it will be nice to see Anderson fight when the pace is something more than some standing sheepishly in front of him hoping to not get knocked out. Forrest will definitely bring the fight to him. This one should not disappoint. Also about the p4p thing - who cares? Look at what happened to BJ when he went up in weight.
-
>#2 alleges in a sworn declaration that, based on information provided to him by former colleagues, "it appears that...... >Identified as "John Doe #1," he says he that he has "learned from my Blackwater colleagues and former colleagues Sounds solid. "Your honor, the witness will testify that he has no direct knowledge of these accusations, but has heard some very incriminating things through the grapevine"
-
There is no way Forrest can make 185. Anderson is going up in weight. I don't see why Forrest is that much of an underdog. He's a lot bigger and stronger than Anderson is typically fighting and you can guarantee that Forrest will be ready to go, unlike a typical Anderson fight which is over before the bell even rings. It'll be interesting to see how he reacts to someone who isn't afraid of him and trades blows.

It was just about the time that 'one nation under God' was added that we started to recite the pledge. A couple years later, Russia invaded Hungary and the threat of 'atomic war' was quite real. We'd have 'air raid drills' and have to crawl under our desks. I have no idea how many times I banged my head on that desk! I hated those drills! Chuck We dove under our desks when the sirens went off during the cold war. We used that fun experience as a segway to learning about the red scare, communism, and the changes to the pledge.
