Well.... time to put my 2c in i suppose! I went to my first Skyfest, had fun, jumped outta the chopper and the balloon, got ABSOLUTELY BLADDERED at least 3 times during the week with people i've never met before and will probably never see again. Spoke to Bill Booth for a while and had him sign off jumps in my logbook. Talked the ears off Mirage / UPT and demoed 3 different canopies from PD. Yes it was disappointing that the Casa never showed, and the weather made the day like sitting in front of a hairdryer for 8 hours solid I never had more than 10 min to wait for a load I ate more pulled pork in 4 days than the average small country consumes in years. I won loads of stuff for cheap in the gear auction Overall, had a great time and will be back next year wherever that may be. H Oh, and had a particularly good time milking the fact that I landed about 2m from the tuffet on the last load on Saturday on my first jump on a demo canopy when the rest of our group all seemed to want to land in Wal mart / Food Lion / onion fields 2 miles away! heh heh heh It's not the speed that kills ya, it's the sudden stops!

Visited Eloy last month, gave it 2 days but left due to the general vibe of the place. Manifest girls and the gear store staff were great but I didn't care for the school policies, lack of organising (no set exit order, landing patterns etc) and general feel of the place. Advertised planes weren't flying either so one of the main reasons we went was a non starter from the beginning. Packers were fine but the rest of the teams and other 'fun' jumpers didn't seem to be interested in much fun at all. Got our lift tickets refunded after 2 days and went to Buckeye instead.

In short... lots lots & lots! Rents depend on where in the country you're looking to live and can vary hugely depending on which par t of the country you end up getting a job in (which i suspect will be pretty difficult right now for a foreign national). A crappy 1 bedrrom flat near where I used to live is currently around 700 pounds a month, god knows what something similar in London would cost, probably in the thousands. Car insurance, you'll need at least what's known as "third party only" which is your basic liability insurance. Depends on what kind of car you get, smaller = cheaper obviously but you will still end up paying out the hoop because of your 0 years history with a UK driving license. I couldn't tell you how much cause I never owned a car in the UK, if you live in town where I did you simply don't need one! Taxes, you'll pay the same as everyone else, probably somewhere around 40% of what you earn will disappear from your pay before you get it but remember theres no $200 health insurance to pay every month! So i'm planning a trip later on in the year round Asia pacific, probably something like Home - Cambodia - Vietnam - Bali - New Zealand - New Caledonia - Fiji - Cook Islands - Tahiti - home So I want to bring my rig and do some skydiving while i'm on vacation and found dropzones (either listed on here or their own websites) in Bali, New Caledonia, Fiji and NZ and fire off some emails asking them what days they jump, what kind of planes they have etc Has ANY ONE of them replied a week later......... no Exactly the same as when I was going to Southern Africa last year, I got replies from one DZ out of about 6. spooky! I just spent half my work day yesterday researching the same thing. Came to some of the same conclusions, I'm going to spend 3 days in Cusco before hitting the trail but i'm intending to take the "other" Inca trail, 4 day hike to Choquequirao as I cant do the whole "busloads of Japanese tourists" thing at Maccu Pichu! Didi anyone go to Lake titikaka and Puro? Remeber that paypal protection does NOT cover transactions that were not sent to a confirmed mailing address. If you do a local pickup and he disputes the transaction you can loose your paypal payment. Happened to a friend of mine when he sold a dirtbike, took payment via paypal with local pickup then the paypal account turned out to be hacked. Try some 'litter attractant'. Comes in a big plastic bottle and looks kind of like tea leaves. I had a HELL of a problem with my girlfriends cat crapping ALL OVER the place in my house until i tried that.
