Another way to do this is to get the colleges to take skydiving seriously as a sport. The University of Maryland has just begun giving out scholarships for cheerleading. If you can get a full ride (or hell even just books) for cheerleading I don't think skydiving is a stretch. Especially if you can represent your college in team events. Ahh to dream.

Good. I hope he gets here soon so I can criticize him too! I don't lean left or right. I loathe them all. I mean obviously they are crazy, who else would want the job? poor smucks.

Although it would be easy to criticize the man for not obeying the rules of conduct (a far greater crime in the eyes of the army than most would see, they need soldiers that OBEY not play cowboy). I find it hard to criticize the man myself. In the heat of the moment it's easy to get caught up in things. He made a decision to disobey the rules inorder to achieve his goal. He saved troops from harm but now he must pay the piper. Sad but true. Being a warrior is an ugly thankless job, but someone has to do it. I say he is a hero.

I know they have built in wi-fi lan capabilities. But hopefully they reduce heat. The new p4 laptops have built in nutt-fry technology.

Ugh, I got so confused I thought it was a open source logo of some sort. I realize now I saw it at the DZ. DOH!

Ok I've searched all over and I need to know - where did the mascot come from. Even my *nix friends couldn't place it.

I've had similiar tiny episodes and chalked it up to inner ear problems. Given that we maintain balance using a part of our ears it made sense. Perhaps you should see a doctor to get checked out. I am going for a physical soon and I am going to bring this up with the physician myself. Perhaps he/she can shed some light. It might be minor but who knows. I'd rather find out while I'm down here. Here is some info on our balance system: http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/balance/balance_disorders.asp

But kids can get around this. We should embed them into their skull plate I say. Maybe even monitor their thought processes. If they had incorrect thoughts we could spot them immediately and intervene intravenously using the latest from Merck and company to rehabilitate them. Also we might want to set up check points and large fences around the facilities. It would be safer.

It should be in the mid-high 30s (F) at alititude then.

I say that if the person wanting reparations can prove that his/her family was in one time owner of a piece of property that was taken in the civil war then yes they should recieve compensation of some sort. But only under those circumstances.

I doubt that Cehchnya is a good example to site. The Russians have violated many international laws with their willingness to torture. Also their abuse of supposed "elections". And they still have not "won" the war as they have announced time and time again. Is this what you want? The fact is you cannot treat other people inhumanely and expect no repercussions. When you torture them you simply give them fodder for their propoganda cannon. It's not about what "they" do. It's about our actions and how we handle ourselves in the world. If others want to lower themselves to the level of beasts then so be it. But some of us would rather sleep at night knowing that we are treating people fairly. Hell, even war criminals that commit genocide get the right to a trial to face his accusers and argue his/her side. If they are guilty then why don't we simply give them a fair trial and then sentence them? And a better question - how does anyone know a suspect is guilty without a trial?

Well we have to.. we have the most people in prison. They are all brand new because the rate of incarceration is ever increasing. It seems that finding the root cause of crime or rehabilitation has taken a back seat to "getting tough on crime" for the sake of politics. Something else has to be done to stop the increasing rate of incarceration because the current scheme isn't working. 2 million people are currently in the US prison system. This is higher than any other country including Russia and China, one a country emerging from totalitarian rule and the other still under totalitarian rule. I'm not saying get rid of jails or set them all free, that's ridiculous. But something has to be done. When a system doesn't work you need to change it.

I think the point is that the Costitution is being violated. It's not about dealing with terrorism, it's about getting a fair trial, something that is clearly stated in the Constitution. Or is it "fair for me but fuck you because I said so and you are a towel head"? Even the biggest piece of shit has a right to a trial. If you don't like that then tough shit. Someone has to stand up and say "hold on". Questioning government is VERY American.

High-G jump plane turns, or "Am I just a wuss?"

Of course I have. Who hasn't?. Lucky bastard! -
Well in todays world it seems that a lot of people are self absorbed. We are constantly bombarded with magazines, TV, radio, etc, telling us that if we aren't constantly happy and pleased then something must be wrong. And then we are told that what we have is never enough, we must continually strive for more. Self-absorption has now become an attractive quality apparently. But fortunately it's not always the case. The majority of people I've met don't buy into it and have old fashioned values and respect.

Killing for god? I didn't know he needed help. Seriously, you have to be skeptical of anyone claiming moral superiority and supposed higher ground when war is involved. I don't think anyone's god would sign off on war or killing. IMO "satan" is on both sides of any war. War is a reality but lets not bullshit ourselves.

Thanks for sharing Nightingale, as an AFF student myself it's good to know that others get the same thoughts and feelings on the ride up and have the same type of challenges. The mental part of skydiving is the most challenging for me to overcome.

So in my hump-day boredom I was surfing the web and saw a model paraglider for sale on a skydiving gear site. Did a google search and came up with tons of links on remote control skydiving! As a kid I flew model airplanes but never even dreamed of dropping little men from them: http://www.olywa.net/yosemiteflash/rcprchpg.htm As a newbie "juan" http://www.olywa.net/yosemiteflash/ljrcpr1.htm has more jumps than me so I'm kind of jealous

Or maybe it was just a fucked up thing to say..

The problem with carrying a gun is that it becomes the go-to. A gang of "thugs" surrounds you.. Do you pull the gun and tell them to back off? Sounds like cowboy antics that don't work in the real world. You better be ready to kill a man if you carry one and pull it out. You better be ready to defend your life on the stand when they throw the book at you. Killings in self-defense are questioned with a skeptical eye by most legal systems. And most of all you better be ready to carry the burden of killing someone for the rest of your life. Those are all real decisions that need to be made BEFORE you decide that a gun is the answer. I prefer not to own one myself but I'm not against gun ownership. Just treat them with the respect they deserve and don't think their gonna solve your problems with punks.
-
>Clearly these little bastards didn't come up with the "gangsta" look and attitude all my themselves. I guess I can understand the viewpoint that US Media has a bad influence on younger folks. But this type of thing has been around long before US media. Punks are punks regardless of where they dwell or the reason they become punks. I bet the very first human settlements had punks.

Thanks PrarieDoug, hope to see you there. I went last Saturday but the winds got above 14mph and I couldn't jump . But I did reschedule for next Sunday so hopefully the weather will be good. I met some very cool and friendly people though. Ned and Ostrich stick out in my mind since I worked with them for my first jump course. I can't wait to go back.
