It looks to me like the Samsung SC-X105L might be a great product...

I fold the excess in half, then stow in binding tape keepers. I do not involve the toggle as that seems like a half-hitch waiting to happen. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Off topic, but I'm curious as to your thoughts on the Aerodyne 3-ring? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Good question. I'm a bit curious myself. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Didn't the following rule make things safer? Minimum container opening altitudes above the ground for skydivers are: 1. Tandem jumps--4,500 feet AGL 2. All students and A-license holders--3,000 feet AGL 3. B-license holders--2,500 feet AGL 4. C- and D-license holders--2,000 feet AGL There is no: 5. C- and D- license holders who've got the LowPull signoff - unlimited. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

A really good way to alleviate this fear is to get to know your gear. WHY are Tempos getting bad reviews? What makes you think your Tempo isn't airworthy? What does your very talented rigger have to say about your Tempo? Have you asked him? Determining the airworthiness of a reserve is a pretty simple process. If you bought that smaller reserve, a reserve that so many people thinks is too small for you, why would that make you feel safe? To me, finding myself under a reserve that's too small to land me safely is a much bigger concern that finding myself under a canopy that's not trendy anymore. Gear tends to get unpopular quickly when a manufacturer stops making it. This makes sense. Often times manufacturers stop making gear because it's dangerous or outdated. That's not what happened here. Pisa stopped making the Tempo when Pisa and Aerodyne merged, the new company choosing to sell the Aerodyne Smart reserve instead of the Tempo. I used to have a Tempo, I used it once and it saved my life. It opened, flew straight and flared nicely. What else could I ask of a reserve? Now I've given that reserve to my wife, and am happy to know that she's got a reserve that I trust. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

In the commentators defence, he did eventually learn about the innacuracies and re-edit the video. I've seen the updated video and there were still issues, but it was far more balanced. I'm not sure if there's a version online or not. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

It bears mentioning that you need to have a camera suit where the wings attach to your legs. They won't let you bring in your rig just so you can clip your wings on... -

It'd be really handy if a couple of skydiving doctors could get togeather and come up with a common-sense checklist for jumping. Something like: You can probably jump if: ~ You can jump off a picnic table bench without pain. ~ You can jog lightly without pain. ~ You can think clearly. ~ You do not suffer fatigue. ~ You can exercise strenuously without becoming dizzy. ~ You do not show an elevated body temperature (fever). ~ You are not under the influence of any narcotics (pain killers). Perhaps change it to "Do not jump if" and negate the conditions to cover asses... [edit] Just to make sure there is no confusion, I am not a doctor, and I'm sure that list needs improvement. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I tried out Picasa 2 last week, because I needed a better imaging archive solution. Picasa 2: http://www.picasa.com/ It's a free download, since Picasa was purchased by Google. On first startup, it scans specified hard disks for all images, and creates an index. It groups folders by year, and sorts the folders within each year by creation date. Click on a folder and it quickly shows you thumbnails of the contents. It has a good set of basic editing tools, such as crop, rotate, resize, contrast and color adjustments. It also has an interesting "I'm feeling lucky" button, which does auto contrast and color. That button works remarkably well. Three things make the photo editing unique. 1) The interface is exceedingly easy to use. As an engineer, I'm very impressed. 2) It keeps a full history of edits, and can "undo" all edits, even after a program or computer restart. 3) It keeps your original files intact. Since I mount my DSLR inverted, one feature I've been dieing for is "Bulk Rotate". Many of the editing features can be done in bulk. When you import photos you can easily add keywords. Use this in searching later. To find the pics from the herc boogie, just search on 'herc'. Lastly, a feature I found KILLER: One click publishing to Shutterfly. Select the images you want to publish, hit the "order" button and the selected images are uploaded to your shutterfly account. Then you simply have to go into shutterfly and "add the folder" to your pro gallery. Obviously it pales in comparison to the power and depth of Photoshop, but that's just fine. For 99% of the editing I do after a weekend of jumping, this software is perfect. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

As a guy with 500 or so camera jumps... I've never met a cameraman who thought he was gods gift to skydiving work. I've only met cameramen who acknowledge that they've had skydives where they struggled to stay alive. People often talk about gaining "experience", but rarely attempt to define what that means. To me, the "experience" that you gain through jumps is meerly the humility of knowing that shit does indeed happen, and you had better be prepared. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I think it's more to do with the uniformity of the picture rather than distance. Lieing in bed, I often have trouble focusing on imperfections in a very bland, white ceiling. Playing tricks by focusing on one distinct object, then moving over to the imperfections while attempting to retain focus helps. I have perfect eyesight. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

Find yourself some tunnel time to work on it. I took my camera suit back/sit flying in the tunnel in Perris when I was down, it really clued me into how much I suck. I did notice an incredible improvement in the air, though. The position is a relaxed sit. The wings help you recline... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

Spetre's and Triathlons are exceeding similar canopies. If you loved one but hated the other, that difference was most likely caused by other factors, such as wind conditions, canopy age, lineset condition, etc. Any 170 square foot canopy is very aggresive given your weight. Please be aware that jumping any 170 right now is not "the safe choice". Remember in the future, that if you ever catch yourself saying "I'm a safe skydiver", that sentence is in direct contradiction with your choice in canopies. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Don't fake it outright, any statistical analysis starts by them throwing out all the anomalies. Remember that they already know an awful lot about you, so anything out of the ordinary that you do will only cause them to throw out your data. I tend to think that clearning the cables is critical for the Tiffany's and Carolyn's of the world. The Piriya's, Ericah's, Pioters and Andy's of the world can get away with pulling to full arm extension. There is only about six inches of excess cuttaway cable above the 3 rings. If I ever get back to teaching First Jump Courses, I will teach clearing the cables for everyone - so that I don't have to differentiate for different students. That's how I was taught, and for that exact same reason. There is no reason for someone built like you to have to do it, other than simplifying the life of instructors. People are jumping all over it because that's the way they were taught. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Nope. There's nothing stopping your family from selling discount cards. That method of discounting has exsited for much longer than Walmart. As a kid in Canada, I remember my parents were part of a "discount program" at the local gas station. They had a card that was just like those 'buy 10 coffes, get one free' cards. The attendant would cut out a square each time they filled up, and after 10 fillups they'd get one free. Either way, gasoline is a commodity, and by definition the selling of comodoties has always been a dog eat dog world. Gas stations have been doing out of business for a lot longer than Walmart has been around. People used to complain about the oil companies putting independant gas stations out of business. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

There are not any accusations of Walmart taking part in predatory pricing schemes. They are consistent in that they always strive for the lowest price, even after any competition disapears. Remember that the only compeition they do cannibalize tends to be other discounters. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
