  1. If you insist on doing it, ensure you have at least a two monthes supply of Ramen noodles and Kraft Mac & Cheese. If you're considering doing this in part of the country that shuts down in the winter, then you need to add to that two monthes the number of monthes you're shut down for. For example, If you're down for four monthes, then make sure to have at least a six monthes supply of Mac & Cheese and Ramen. Costco sells both by the case, so make sure to do the shopping there before you quit your day job. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. That soudns very cool. What would make it cooler? An interface to the LANC port on my Camcorder, so I could integrate the 'Cam-eye' functionality. I'd rather only have one thing hanging infront of my face. The 'Cam-eye' tells me if my camera is turned on, if it's in recording mode, and if I'm running out of battery or tape. One integrated display for all this, plus altitude would be *very* cool. I hope the Titan has capability for multiple inputs. Help with video-framing would be even cooler, but I doubt it would work very well. I'm curious what types of data the device will support. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. I have a Bonehead Flat-Top-Pro that I love, a Velocity freefly helmet that I'm indifferent about, and a Z1 RW helmet that I hate. The Z1 regularly falls apart and requires re-glueing and resewing. I've never found anyone willing to help me with my issues. The FTP does everything right. It's well designed, well-built, and the service level in the US is unmatched. After owning 3 helmets by 3 different manufacturers, its' unlikely I'll ever buy another that isn't a Bonehead. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. I left the flap in place so I can reinsert it when my still isn't on my helmet. I just pull the flap aside when I plug in my switch. I've never had any moisture problems with my still... even when things get "wet" from "haze". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  6. Is your profile up to date? Since you're looking for a cam-eye, I presume you're looking to start jumping your camera. Jumping a camera at 70 jumps is not appropriate. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  9. This is true. I've tried to swoop my wife's Saber2 190, and I struggled. I eventually gave up because I found myself in the corner too often. Trying to swoop that big canopy was FAR more dangerous than I would have thought. I can swoop the piss out of my Sam 136, though. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  12. Stop doing tandems, start saving your OWN life with your own parachute. Your instructors will teach you everything you need to know, including what the handles do. On most rigs, there are only 3 handles, and their operation is quite simple. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. Some will, check out this example: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N10EA It appears to have been a high altitude jump, so I'm guessing it would have had a filed flight-plan. Most skydiving ops have do not file flight plans. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. I currently wear a Tilley winter hat: http://www.tilley.com/detail.asp?catId=&gender=&extractBy=CategoryId&id=1&productNo=TW2. Yes, it really is the "best" hat ever made. You can never go wrong with a Tilley Hat. Recent termperatures are hovering around zero (farenheight) in Chicago, anyone who doesn't wear a good hat is a moron. In the spring and fall I wear a plain old wool Fedora. http://www.hatsinthebelfry.com/page/H/PROD/fedora_hats/5319-brn A Stetson is a bit too country for this city-boy, but they do look nice. Mens hats are under-rated. They really do need a come-back. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. The only time it should be an issue is if one partner is a student, and the other is an instructor. In every other case, there should be a video debrief for all interested parties. Points should be scored for 'artistic integrity', 'dificulty', and 'originality'. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. I never said anything about fault. Anytime a mentally ill person gets killed, it's tragic on many levels. It really is that simple. Both the wife of the man, and the air marshal have my sympathies. Given his training, I'm sure he did exactly what he was suposed to do. Municipal police forces get special training on identifying and handling the mentally ill. Perhaps the Air Marshals should get that training, too. __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  18. I really wish being gay wasn't a firable offence, that seems like an incredible anachronism. That said, this is a great example of the iconic homophobic yet closeted republican. How often will this keep going until republicans give up on their anti-gay legislation? http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/sns-ap-election-rdp,1,3615265.story?coll=chi-news-hed Spokane Mayor Recalled After Sex Scandal By JOHN K. WILEY Associated Press Writer Published December 7, 2005, 1:11 PM CST SPOKANE, Wash. -- Mayor James E. West must leave office this month after voters recalled him in a special election sparked by allegations he used a city computer to woo gay men over the Internet. West, 54, must leave his position when the election results are certified Dec. 16. He has not been charged with a crime, but FBI agents seized computers from his home as part of an investigation. "I said I'd abide by the will of the voters, obviously, and they've spoken," West told The Associated Press Tuesday. "I'm at peace with their decision and disappointed." The recall election was launched by a local resident, Shannon Sullivan, who said she felt vindicated by the results. West, a former Boy Scout executive and sheriff's deputy, was elected mayor in 2003 after serving more than two decades as a conservative Republican in the state Legislature, where he voted against gay-friendly bills. A little more than half of the 110,000 ballots mailed to voters were counted in the first batch of results released Tuesday night. Of those, 38,718, or 65 percent, voted to recall West, while 20,681, or 35 percent, voted to retain him. The recall campaign began after the Spokesman-Review newspaper reported in May that West was a closeted homosexual who visited gay chat rooms using his city-owned laptop computer, and offered internships and other favors to young men he hoped to have sex with. Sullivan, a single mother with a high-school education and no legal background, shepherded her petitions for a recall vote through superior and state high court challenges brought by the mayor's lawyers. "It's been a long, hard seven months," she said Tuesday. "Elected officials need to be held to higher standards." Shannon has said she started the campaign after finding herself at a loss to explain newspaper reports of West's behavior to her 9-year-old son. West has denied any wrongdoing. In a newspaper ad, he acknowledged making "personal mistakes" but insisted he had "never done anything to harm our city." * __ _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. How does media size affect depth of field? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. What's the speed of the lens? Also, what's the aperature and shutterspeed of the images you don't like? Filmspeed, shutterspeed, and aperature are all stored in the files themselves, and you can view these settings through Photoshop, Picasa, or in Windows by right clicking on the image, selecting "Properties", then the "Summar" tab, and hit the 'Advanced" button. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. I haven't noticed a difference in the amount of light required to properly expose an image between my Digital Rebel and Rebel 2000. Are you sure you've got your ISO "film speed" set properly? If you've got that set eronously low, the effect would be that your aperature would be wider than required, which shortens your depth of field. While shooting indoors or in low light, you may want to use ISO 200 or higher. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. All of the manufacturers state 10,000 feet - so taking it to 10,000 feet is fine. 15,000 is 50% over published maximums. Taking it to 15,000 will pretty much guaranty a failure over a handfull of jumps - and no, the Ipod probably won't tell you when the heads impact, so you might not even know about it. Only later, when you notice songs won't play will you figure it out. Taking it to 13,5 (MSL) is less dangerous than 15,000... but it's still 35% over published maximums - definately not smart. Remember all these altitudes are MSL - not AGL. Even though Perris Valley only flies to 12,500 AGL, they're actually going to close to 14,000 MSL since field level is 1,500. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. Instead of asking on the Internet, why not read a manual? I'll even make it easy for you: Here's the manual for the IBM Microdrive, which is the most common microdrive on the market. It's used in the IPOD, and in countless CF-type cards. http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/6EF902390528609A87256AC000679FD3/$file/dscm_sp40.PDF Check out page 21. 25. I can't quote an injury or death rate at any DZ I've ever lived at, and I have "been around the block". I certainly don't expect someone new to the sport to be able to do this. The allegations are clear violations, and now they've been backed up by different people. I was hoping when I first read these accusations that the DZO would have taken the criticism and addressed the concerns. It seems clear that he hasn't. What's even more amazing is that it seems this DZ has had the attention of the USPA for some time, and even they have been unable to bring change. That's pathetic. What the hell is the point of the Group Membership if there's no downside to clear violations? We're fortunate that there are people willing to step forward and shine a light on stuff like this. I for one appreciate it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
