  1. The other thing going on is that when I don't jump the camera, it gets put away in a aluminum case. I wonder if it doesn't dry out properly because I keep it locked up all the time. This week it's sitting out on my counter... maybe that will help. Thanks for everyones thoughts... hopefully I'll figure it out this weekend. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. It's an absurd comparison. The only thing that's more absurd is the implication that skydiving is safer then driving a car. Well, skydiving might be safer then driving on a rain slicked highway, at twice the legal speed, while hopped up on a cocktail of at least 3 different illegal drugs. Why even attempt to deny that skydiving is dangerous? Why are we trying to fool ourselves? Isn't the danger part of the appeal? A fair comparison would be to compare a skydive to a short trip in a car, not driving 10,000 miles. However, when compared this way, we realise that skydiving actually is dangerous... which should be obvious. This clearly wasn't the authors point. He was trying to deceive. Why? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    Which pic?

Yup, Matty has been at Chicagoland (hinckley) since showing up in the spring. I'll tell him you said 'hi'. He was kind enough to shoot stills for us. Strangely, when he first moved to chicago he ended up in our condo-building. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    Which pic?

Last sunday Craichead did her first jump off student status, it was also our first jump togeather. We got video and stills. Which still should we get enlarged? http://66.102.107.165/andrew/PiriyaAndyJump/ __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Odd that you chose to only include this disclaimer on this specific post. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. This is exactly the same reason I gave up on Atair when I bought my Stileto. I wondered if a company was willing to ignore a customer knocking on their door, then how will they treat me when I'm looking for support? PD has been awesome, and even though the Stiletto isn't he hottest 'rod, it's still a barrel of fun and I get great service. I'm eagerly awaiting the Kittana. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. I forget what camera my dz is using on their otter-strut mounted camera. I'll find out this weekend. The results have been spectacular... see http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?direct=Personal_Galleries/AndyMan/On_The_Step The initial system had a local electronics guru design a circuit board where the camera would fire every two seconds while the green light was on. They've since replaced this with a new system where it'll fire as quickly as possible while somebody is in the door - they've put motion sensors at the side of the door. Really quite cool. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. Yes. I've only had the problem on jumprun. Once the camera goes into this mode, it'll stay in this mode until power-cycled. Power-cycling at altitude does not seem to help. Attempts to power-cycle and start the camera on the step have been futile. Attempts to power-cycle and start the camera afterwards on the ground have been succesfull. Various tests during the climb have all been fine. I'm not sure exactly when it dies, but most attempts to turn it on after the door is open, flaps are down, air speed is decreased result in failure. If I get it to turn on, it will stay on. I've not noticed any condensation on the outside of the camera. But then it's firmly attached to my head usually when it happens, so it'd be hard to tell. I've yet to waste a jump ticket just to inspect my camera at jumprun. I will take a right-seat ride this weekend, to try and figure out whats going on... I figure temerature at altitude is just below freezing this time of year. Nobody's seen behaviour like this? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. The last few weeks I've been having a consistent problem where my pc120BT will not turn on at altitude. The symptoms are that the cam-eye shows blue (standbye), but will not go into record mode when I press either the cam-eye button or the button on the camera. I've yet to see any errors on the camera, simply because I haven't looked. Everything seems to work well on the ground, and during climb, but invariably just before exit it won't turn on. Initially I blamed the cam-eye, but now believe it might be the camera. I've just had the motherboard replaced for other unrelated reasons, and the problem persists. My latest theory is that the cold temperature at altitude is causing moisture to condense within the unit. All reports of moisture problem I've seen happens on the ground, though. Has anybody gone through similar symptoms? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. You probably don't wanna see the Casa trying to use a 2600 foot runway... Just show up after dark, k? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. I'm also surprised the FAA hasn't already launched an investigation. Do they usually start one right away, or is there frequently a delay? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. This last weekend I was doing intentional downwind landings under a demo reserve loaded at 1.7 in 20mph winds. They were fun! I was hauling ass.... Thanks Kolla! Personally, I find downwind landings easier then crosswinds. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. I thought the definition of a total is where nothing comes out, ie - a hard pull, or arguably container lock. In my mind, once something comes out it can't be a total, even if it comes out and separates. Semantic arguments are.... semantic. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. (tent sex is fun): 6: 3 First jump with craichead, the love of my life. Got video, and stills. yay! Stills will be posted once developed and scanned. First jump as a USPA coach. Get off the sidewalks! First jump paid and paid for. I likey! __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. Of course, not, but the features and capabilityies of the 10D were not the same as the 1D. That doesn't mean Moore's law is not in effect. For the most part, we jump consumer grade video cameras and analog SLR's. Moore's law is going to make the same true for DSLR's. According to Canon, the EOS RebelD IS consumer grade, but I'm going to wait just a bit longer for something MORE consumer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=403396;search_string=moore;#403396 The prices of dslr's will continue to decrease while the features will increase. I look forward to next year. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  19. Yup, and they too have jumped the WMD in Iraq bandwagon before. Like I said, I'll wait and see making any statements I'd regret. Edit: I think the fact that its being carried only by Indian newspapers is telling. Plus, the AP report is quoting an "pro-goverment" Kuwaiti newspaper, this in a country not exactly known for having press freedoms. Yeah, I'll be waiting a bit on this one... _Am _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. Good luck, I know exactly how you feel. My TN comes up in November, so I'm preparing for that now, too. My history of working with INS is not particularly positive. My lawyer bills are excesive. Keep us updated. I'd love to know how the place "feels". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. Yup, this is exactly what I do when I travel. I've never had a problem. I wear it on my back all the way through, take it off for the x-ray machine, then put it back on. I usually get a few silly comments from people who figure it out what it is... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. Sure, but keep breaking it down. In order for first degree criminal tresspass, there must be intent. If somebody crashes their car into somebody's livingroom, it's not tresspassing because there was no intent. Likewise, we don't intend to crash our planes or land off. It would be very dificult for mcNasty to succesfully prosecute for 1st degree criminal tresspass. There is also 3rd degree or misdemeanor tresspass, and this is a posibility. There is usually a requirement that it be communicated that tresspassing is not allowed... this is usually done through a "no tresspassing" sign. Of course, we're not going to see that sign when landing, so the sign is meaningless. It would be problematic if McNasty communicated to the DZ and the jumpers beforehand "do not land on my land". But generally, it seems that if it hasn't been specifically communicated to you, it's not misdemeanor tresspassing, either. Damage to his crops are a whole other ballgame, but this is exactly why our USPA memebership carries 3rd party liability insurance. This issue will rear its ugly head if that goes away, but currently is not a problem. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. Funny how Drudge gets taken seriously on by people his stories make look good. For the sheer number of times there's been reported finds of WMD in Iraq that've been proven false, I think I'll wait for a few more reliable news organizations to jump on this bandwagon before I make an ass out of myself... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
