  1. I have always avoided any kind of slider stow solution that involves a direct connection between container and slider - for exactly this reason. I had always figured it would happen, so am not surprised it actually has. Happy the man dealt with it, but some day there will be someone who does not. I currently use a section of fingertrapped 1000 dacron sewn onto my front risers. It works well enough. I may upgrade to a magnetic one on my reserve flap, but am still on the fence if the magnet would actually release. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. The standard scam is that once you talk to them, they will send a check of money order for a grossly excessive amount to pay for the services. Then they'll ask for you to refund the difference. Because international checks and money orders take weeks to fully process, by the time the bank figures out the original check was bogus, you've already mailed the refund. The bank sees the bounced check, reverses the funds they credited you, and you're hosed. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. I have the same problem with mine, but it's sitting on my shelf collecting dust because I haven't bothered to fix it. I was quoted $400 to fix it, and a new camera is way cheaper. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. Going out to instructors as well. I got one Friday night. I was surprised when I got it, it was the first scam email I'd ever gotten that targeted me specifically. It's more impressive than the standard Nigerian 419. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. Your Physical Therapist is a great person to ask about exercises. They will have some odd ones that I'm sure you've never done before. However, after having one shoulder dislocation you are at risk of more. You may require surgery to repair the damage in your shoulder. The only people who can advise you this way is your doctors. Jumping in August - 3 months seems reasonable, as long as your shoulder heals and remains tight. If you require surgery, you won't be jumping for 6 months. As for flying - learn to fly Mantis. Mantis freefall position is much easier on your shoulder. Also, avoid sit-flying. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Not use SkyVans for tandems. It's one thing to asphyxiate ourselves, it's another thing to do it to a tandem passenger. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. I don't understand. If you want to send your Vigil in so much, then by all means send it in. What's stopping you? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. No. Win Win Aviation is owned by Andri Weiss, and although he owns property close to CSC, he is not involved there. He did once own the DZ, but sold it - nearly a decade ago, to the current owner. As far as I know they do not have any business contacts. Win Win Aviation owns many skydiving aircraft that are leased various DZ's. He does not provide aircraft to CSC. Those curious can identify his impressive fleet by searching the n-registry. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. I'm curious why you actually want a fisheye. Sure, there's some neat artistic effects that can be done with them, but as a lens being used to take skydiving pictures, I personally wouldn't get much use for one. On the Sigma 15MM, I find I crop most before printing to get rid of worst of the distortion. If you're just getting into photography, I'd try to avoid fisheye. The Sigma 15mm is a great lens, but the distortion is a pain, not a feature. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. Guilty. In my defense, as an AFF-I for 4 years and a Senior Rigger for 2, I still have never actually seen one of these things. Amazing! A good thing, IMHO - I do prefer the simpler algorithms of the other models and brands. To get back on point, With a Student Cypres, the pilot of a descending aircraft must keep the VSI well below 2500 FPM, and should be reminded of such. With only Expert or Tandem AAD's on the plane, the pilot must keep the VSI needle below 7000 FPM - something I hope he doesn't need to be reminded of. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. A quick reminder of basic firing parameters for Cypres, other AAD's vary slightly. Tandem: 1900 feet, 78 MPH (6,840 FPM). Expert: 750 feet, 78 MPH (6,840 FPM). Student: 750 feet, 29 MPH (2,552 FPM). Also, it might be a great time to remind folks that Mike Mullins tried to get an expert Cypres to fire by diving at grossly excessive speeds on descent - he could not. I am curious if he also tried with a tandem one... __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. There is absolutely no reason to think that something as described in a patent even remotely resembles what made it in to the final product. The patent is an interesting read, but I would not consider it relevant to the operation of the AAD. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. I can think of only two reasons to cutaway a smoke bomb. 1: some kind of line entaglement. 2: some kind unusuaul burning - the damn thing is on fire. In both cases, it would be hard to pull that pin, either because your feet are hanging in the lines or this smoke bomb is engulfed in flames. If you're going to go the way of a cuttaway, I would make the cuttaway pin/handle a lot easier to get to. The last few times I've used smoke bombs, I simply used duct tape plus some cardboard as insulation. My "cuttaway" technique was as simple as kicking off my shoe. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. I'm looking for an email address for "Doc" Steve. If someone could please send via email or PM? Thanks, _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. John LeBlanc begs to differ: http://www.dropzone.com/forum/Skydiving_Disciplines_C3/Swooping_and_Canopy_Control_F4/Canopy_Aerobatics_P112305/#112255 No question, a poorly executed attempt at a barrel roll can end badly. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. The original poster sold his canopy to his friend. It is common to remove a canopy from risers when you sell it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. I would not jump that setup until you install a robust cuttaway system. The one advantage of the Go-Pro setup is that the mount would break during an entanglement. You've just taken out the only thing that made the thing usable to jump. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. When I switched from Manual Focus to Auto Focus, I ditched Nikon and switched to Canon because of the larger series of lenses and accessories. I do not regret the change in any way, although my grandfather would be rolling in his grave, he got me tied to Nikormat decades ago. I walked away from a large collection of manual-focus lenses when I made the switch. In the pile of old camera gear in the closet: 1 Nikkormat FT 1 NikonFM10 1 Nikon FM50 1 Canon Rebel 1 Leica 1 Speed Graphics I am loving Canon, but frequently find myself having lens-envy. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. Risers belong to the rig, end of story. While a rigger has authority to determine compatible components, he does not have authority to swap individual parts of a component to another system - although this is very frequently done. While it's common to see (for example) a Javelin with Vector risers, I believe this configuration is technically illegal. The rigger should have taken the canopy off the risers when he switched the main. You should get your risers back. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. It most certainly is possible, and I've directly seen the malfunction that resulted and it was UGLY. It's not so much doing a deep stall and letting up (that can cause line twists), but doing the barrel roll that you saw posted in the youtube video. Not having enough energy to complete the roll can result in you falling onto the canopy. As a result, no matter how cool the barrel roll looks, it is one thing that I have never attempted, and never will. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. Hi Kelly, Other manufacturers have published loop lengths in their manuals. Some of them print them as recommendations, while others state them as instructions just like any other step. As a rigger, I appreciate having loop lengths published - even if they're only recommendations. A recommended loop length is a great starting point when I see a rig for the first time. As an aside, I would also love to see an updated version of the manual. PDF's of old scans of old books makes the Infinity manual one of the weaker ones out there. I suspect the lack of details in this manuals might lead to newer riggers making mistakes like having closing loops too long. BTW - love your rigs. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. WTF? His DZ takes the certificates, so does Perris, Elsinore, Holister, and Lodi, Brown, Byron, San Diego, and Sacramento - and that's just California. I'm heading off to the 100-ways at Perris in a few weeks. I presume you'll hold them to the same standard? Regardless - attempts to paint ProSkydiving and Skyride with the same brush is wrong. Separate people, separate businesses, separate everything. Thank god, because Skydiving needs SkyRide to go away, but I've heard that ProSkydiving is an answer some DZO's are looking for. You can keep saying the same thing over and over again, but you're still wrong. ProSkydiving is not Skyride - they're completely different, the businesses have no connection, and if you continue to make that accusation I can only assume that your motivation is malice, rather than ignorance. And honestly, that's just pretty lame. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. As far as I can tell, they have. They've signed up more than 50% of DZ's. I don't see many people here complaining about price. I hear people saying "it's just another skyride", which clearly - it is not. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. That's old. I need to update it. Moving my trailer next weekend. ;) __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. I just don't get what you're asking for. When people complained about SkyRide, they complained that Skyride hid competing dropzones that aren't in the program. When ProSkydiving set up this page, the hoped to avoid this criticism by showing every DZ in the area. When I first saw it, I thought it was a pretty reasonable approach. I still think it's a reasonable approach- and I don't have a horse in this race. You're asking that they show non-Proskydiving in the top section, in the section labeled "3 PRO Skydiving dropzones were found for Montana". Clearly, that would be false advertising as you're asking for non-member DZ's to be listed as a member DZ. I imagine that would piss off even more DZO's. The site is CLEARLY identified as a "National Dropzone Connection", and clearly distinguishes between member DZ's and non-member DZ's. I would think you would be happy with this as I can not think of a single booking agency that lists non member businesses. Does Priceline, Orbitz, or Travelocity show airlines, hotels, or car rental companies they don't do business with? Do they highlight non-partners in their search results? What the hell are you asking for, anyways? __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
