I ran up a little spread sheet today. I went through my stack of Parachutists (about the last years worth) and entered all of the incident reports that reported both number of jumps and time in the sport. Here's what I found: When considering all of the incident reports: Sample size: 17 Average number of jumps: 1025.71 Average time in sport (years): 6.97 Average jumps per month: 12.34 When considering low-time jumpers (I chose the arbitrary value of 500 jumps or less): Sample size: 9 Average number of jumps: 249.56 Average time in sport (years): 1.94 Average jumps per month: 11.2 When considering "experienced" jumpers (more than 500 jumps): Sample size: 8 Average number of jumps: 1898.88 Average time in sport (years): 12.63 Average jumps per month: 13.62 Conclusions: First of all, the sample size is far to small to do any real statistical analysis. Having access to, say, Craig Poxon's database would really be helpful. Also, this includes anybody who died while skydiving, including drowning after landing, medical conditions, etc., which further skews the results. More error is introduced by averaging the lifetime number of jumps with time in the sport. It may be possible, for example, that a jumper made many skydives and was extremely current ten years ago, but has since slown down to only a couple of jumps per month. Because of the small sample size and many possible sources for error, I will let the reader draw their own conclusions. My data is attached. currency.html

I emailed Alti-2 about it and they said that Neptunes should be available in about 8 weeks.

Reasons for building a tiny, tiny, canopy: 1. Publicity. Judging by all of the posts about this thing, I think it worked. 2. Because they can. I think that everybody reading this thread is dreaming about taking that thing for a spin. 3. Sales. It's easier to lug around to trade shows, easier to show the different parts to people, etc. 4. Research. Maybe, just maybe, it would turn out to have some usable qualities. Add a propeller and a camera for a ram-air spy drone? Cheap to make, man-portable, easy to teach a soldier how to use. There has been research in modifying model airplanes to give individual units the ability to scout ahead down roads and into towns. This could fit that bill.

It's actually a ram-air kite. The only manufacturer that I know off-hand is Big Air Kites (A company related to Big Air Sportz, makers of skydiving mains). You probably noticed that the woman in the commercial was also towing a sled. The kites have enough power to lift somebody off of the ground in a strong wind, so they would probably work well enough to pull a skier and her cargo. It would certainly save a lot of energy while crossing big flat stretches of land. By the way, para-ski is an entirely different sport.

I dunno. I score 15000+ most of the time and I'm pretty mediocore at video games.

One of these days Google will become self-aware. [2001] "Let me search for pr0n, Google." "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." [/2001]

That reminds me of a prank from grade school. Go up to somebody and say, "Hey, did you know that your hand is bigger than your face?" When they put their hand over their face, smack it.

There are ways to beat just about every pay-TV system on the market. Satellite is especially easy. I wouldn't trust anybody that runs a business on a "free hosting" site, though. If you do some research, you will find the answers that you are looking for.

can i order Parachutist and get it delivered to the UK?
indyz replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
All I can find is the membership page. Membership comes with a subscription to the mag. I could have sworn there was a way to subscribe without becoming a member, but I can't find it. -
MS Basics have never had a proper escape character, and I just can't figure out why. Having to triple-doublequote a string just to start it with a quotation mark is F'in impossible to read. strSomeVar = """Doesn't make sense""" strAnotherVar = "\"Makes better sense, and I don't need my glasses!\"" strCoolLanguagesGrokSingleQuotes = '"Perfect."'

Pssst.... That Brit is Eric Idle, of Monty Python.

Hmmm... I have that card around here somewhere...

You got me. Dogma is the only one that I've only seen once (and, in my humble opinion, the worst of the Kevin Smith films).
-
From a business perspective, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Even if we discount all of PISAs other products, the Tempo is a tested, TSOd, well regarded canopy with solid market share. It just doesn't make sense for Aerodyne to scrap all of that and start over from scratch with a brand new reserve. P.S. There is a picture of the new middle ring on Aerodyne International's web site.

Bob was played by Kevin Smith, who wrote and directed Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Dogma. He also wrote others, but those are the only ones that Jay and Bob were in. Ben Affleck was in Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma, and Chasing Amy. Jay and Bob were only minor characters in every movie except for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

I've filed a 1040EZ by phone a couple of times. It's no problem.

TV Show Looking For Amazing Skydive
indyz replied to nowseathis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Here's the Google cache of what might be show's home page: cache IMDB does not show a TV series named "Now See This." -
Sucks to be Canadian December 14th for me. My reserve will be repacked in time for next weekend, then I only have to decide if I want to go to Sky Knights or SDC.

It's been done.
