If you want to kill kittens, check out the games at Mohsye (Skip the intro, click on "Games", then drag the little orb up and down to see all of the games). Cat Bat and Cat Vac are my favorites.

Does Kristen live in Wisconsin?

How many jumps did you do in your first year of skydiving?
indyz replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
40-something. College student, had to find rides to the DZ, and spent my summer vacation saving for a rig and only doing 6 jumps. -
0:3:0. Did a couple of fun zoo RW loads and a sitfly. It was cold enough that I considered blowing some of my camera money on a fullface. I am currently one jump shy of 200.

I have a Vector 3 made in I think 1995 or 1996. It's the oldest V3 I've ever come across, anyway, and it was in fantastic shape when I bought it last year.

http://www.sky-pimp.com I'm in the market for a camera helmet and I'm totally overwhelmed by all of the choices. I like the way that this one keeps the camera so tight in with the helmet, but I don't understand why they chose to put it on the right side when every sidemount that I've seen is one the left.

Lots of stuff happened on October 12. Columbus "discovered" America. The USS Cole was bombed. The first Oktoberfest. The USSR put the first multi-person spacecraft in orbit. Robert E. Lee died. Khrushchev had a freak out in the UN. Stilwell died. But that all happened in years that I wasn't born. The best I can find in 1982 is that the Brewers beat the Cards 10-0 to start a seven game World Series. And a state rainfall record was set in Angoon Alaska (15.2").

I thought you looked familiar, but it took me a while to figure out why... [see attached]

Hot air balloons take skydivers up all of the time. There was a thread a while back about whether a tethered balloon qualified a BASE jump or not.

This is somewhat of a simplification, but I think it gets the concept across: What is the ratio of the skydiver's weight to his surface area? Does a man who is 6 feet tall and 300 pounds present twice as much surface to the wind as a 6 foot tall, 150 pound man? Of course not. Surface area does scale linearly with weight. Plus, the fat man's gut will actually make him more aerodynamic than a guy with a flat stomach in a belly-to-earth orientation.

That's probably Macrovision. Many DVD players can be hacked to turn it off (for example, my Apex AD-1500). Be warned that intentionally disabling DVD copy protection is a violation of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act and could land you in court. Not that anybody would ever find out, unless you start a massive piracy ring or something. Edit to add: More info for lots of players here.

The people in the know claim that it's very similar to a Sabre2. I put three jumps on a 150 loaded at 1.3 at Rantoul and really, really liked it. It flew great, and the landings were fantastic. It had so much more flare than my Spectre (loaded at 1:1). I did have some issues with the openings but people who jump them on a regular basis claim to get great openings, so I'll chalk that one up to bad luck/body position on my part. Stalls with airlocks are kind of wierd. Nothing dangerous, just different. Bottom line: If you are considering a Sabre2, also try and get your hands on a Lotus demo. This entire post is IMHO, of course.

Sucker. A software vendor gave a technical seminar this morning, provided free breakfast, then hustled us all off to see Revolutions. By "us" I mean all of the IT staff except for me, because I had to go to class. Dammit.

I did not. So now I have 196 jumps and don't have a B or C because the universe conspired to keep me from getting water training.

Arguments have a tendency to take this form (note: please feel free to mentally substitute Iraq with gun control, Halliburton, liberal bias in the media, or whatever).

A friend of mine has had one for about a year. He was going to sell it because he needed the dash space to mount a boost gauge, but he decided that he would miss it too much. I'm pissed, because I've spent a lot of time in that car and fell in love with the thing. Now I'll have to pay full price to get one of my own.

I have a pair of G107s from SportRX. They work great for me. I've got 170 jumps on the pair. To be honest, that's more than I expected. The foam seal is peeling in a couple of places, but it's no big deal. I'm thinking that most of the seal damage is from getting jostled around in my gear bag. Putting them in some sort of hard case probably would have prevented it. There is also the usual wear and tear on the strap. The lenses and frames are still in perfect condition. My only complaint is that there is some reduction in peripheral vision, but that happens with a lot of the bug-eye style goggles.

I like my colors. A lot. But they'll probably clash with your gear. A lot.

I'd search Google and see if the email address has been used anywhere else (message boards, mailing lists, USENET, etc.). Beyond that it's pretty hopeless without getting lawyers involved.

Not in my (somewhat limited) experience. I have never received a manual, original receipt, or anything else with any used gear that I have bought. However, warning labels on canopies and containers list the date that the gear was made and serial number. PD reserves will indicate on the warning label how many times they have been packed and jumped since the last factory inspection.

Just read about it on El Reg. This is potentially very good news for me, seeing as how I'm the sole Linux guy in a Novell shop.

I was in the same boat as you. I did about a dozen CRW jumps this summer, mostly with Spectres. This is something that I want to play with more, but I couldn't justify a dedicated CRW rig or even a second main. A couple of weeks ago I put up a want-ad here on DZ.com for a Triathlon Hybrid. I found one within a couple of days and have put 10 jumps on it since then. I really like the canopy. Terminal and subterminal openings are great, maybe even a little softer than my Spectre. To be fair, my Spectre needs a reline soon. All of that reinforcing makes it pack up pretty big. My Tri 160 packs up a little larger than my Spectre 170.

The guy was a student (the narrator said he was making his first jump). When I started jumping in 2001, it was on a static line progression with a square main and a round reserve.
