  1. He threatened to burn his mother's house down with her inside it. So, math and physics... The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene is pretty a decent introduction to string theory a.k.a. "the theory of everything." (everything I know about the subject I learned from this book and the miniseries based on it, so it could be totally misleading for all I know). Simon Singh has a pretty good book about codes (called "The Code Book," oddly enough). He also has one called Fermat's Enigma about proving Fermat's Last Theorem.
  2. Most of Barbara Tuchman's is pretty good if you like very long history books. There are a bunch of books about Sir Ernest Shackleton's failed expedition to the Antarctic. It's a fantastic tale of human endurance. "Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage" by Alfred Lansing is supposed to be one of the best accounts, but I haven't read it personally.
  3. I wear a helmet most of the time. Solos and the occasional small RW jump are exceptions. I also do CRW without a helmet, but that is because I only own a Mindwarp and I can't hear anything when I'm wearing it. I promise to get a half-shell for next season.
  4. AggieDave links to some pics of one in his signature.
  5. Nah. We've been migrating our intranet site at work and I've been finding and fixing tons of the same errors all week. Guess I just can't turn it off.
  6. If I open somebody's profile, then click on their Reviews or Classifieds tab, the page title has my username instead of the reviewers. For example, SM1's profile. Click Reviews, and the title is "Dropzone.com Forums: Reviews: indyz:" If I then go to the Classifieds tab, the page title is "Dropzone.com Forums: Reviews: indyz:" (which is actually wrong on two counts)
  7. Because anything outside of the tri-strate area is too expensive to get to.
  8. It says, "The VASCLIP procedure should be considered permanent" on the page. So I guess they are saying that the clip can be removed, but no promises.
  9. There's a whole thread devoted to the details of becoming a rigger right at the top of this forum.
  10. OK, I've emailed it to everybody who asked for it. If anybody else wants a copy, let me know.

    The Matrix Sucks

Right. The Matrix is powered by humans. And the Matrix keeps the humans alive. Perpetual motion machine, anyone?

    The Matrix Sucks

Actually, that's allowed because it all happens inside of a computer. I was thinking more along the lines of the first law of thermodynamics.

    The Matrix Sucks

Hey, don't be so hard on the movie. It's not like the entire premise of the story violates a basic law of physics or anything.
  14. No question, black vector 6 is awesome.
  15. Aerodyne emailed me a Word document showing the bridle routing. I'll forward a copy to the email address in your profile when I get home from work.
  16. Google 665 Cockeyed Penny Arcade Diesel Sweeties The Straight Dope
  17. It does unit conversion. Do a search in the format "14 stone in pounds" and it does the conversion. Nifty. I'm 18,288,000,000 angstroms (1.22247624 × 10^-11 AU) tall, BTW.
  18. You should be aware that the tunnel that you linked to has a much slower airspeed and a much smaller diameter than the "major" tunnels. At 105 mph, you will probably have to wear a pretty baggy jumpsuit in order to fly without being dearched the entire time. The Florida and California tunnels will allow you to fly at the same airspeeds as a real skydive.
  19. OK, I have an MSN client but I can't sign up at chat.msn.com because I'm not running Windows. Anybody want to create an account (indyzIL, if it's available) and PM me the details? Nevermind, everything is all screwed up on my end.
  20. Like everybody else already said, the Sidekick is GSM only so if you end up off the beaten path you won't be able to use it, at all. Keep in mind that the unlimited Internet costs $20/month on top of your voice rates. Even with all of that, I might have been willing to buy one if the hardware was good. It wasn't. My major problems with the device: - the screen large and constantly exposed, which means high breakage potential. - the hinge feels really cheap. - there is no telephone style keypad (you have to enter numbers by swining out the screen and entering them on the QWERTY pad; have fun trying to do this while driving) - the screen is on the same side of the device as the microphone/speaker. It only took me one call to smear the screen with face grease. Icky and tough to clean. Granted, it was a hot day.
  21. My fault. I got confused and thought that you were putting the TRV on the side and the stills on top.
  22. Do a search in this forum for "stroboframe" and "bogen"
  23. Yeah, we were both relative newbies in the base of a zoo load, which I funelled most spectacularly. I think I only saw her that day. She seemed nice, hope we didn't scare her off.
