As a civilian, did you have to use your gun ?
firemedic replied to piisfish's topic in Speakers Corner
Twice, First situation was where a guy forced his way into my home. Grabbed a gun off the rack in my room and when the guy saw me pointing it at him he ran. Second time I was walking down the street in my neighborhood when large dog (running free) came after me. -
Square/Triangular folding of the slider on reserves
firemedic replied to davidclark's topic in Gear and Rigging
Very Interesting. I've only been a senior rigger for 4 years, packed nearly 300 square reserves but I've never seen either of those methods in any of the pack jobs. Do any of you experienced riggers know of any particular methods to avoid when stowing the slider? The method I use is the one Dave DeWolf teaches. I tried to copy the pic from the web but I'm having issues with my computer so here is the link to his instrucitons. The picture is on page 11 bottom left hand side of page. http://www.hightimeskydiving.com/DeWolf_Pack.pdf -
This happened about 25 miles from where I live. I missed the initial story but saw a follow up today as I was walking by a news stand. Link to both. http://www.lowcountrynewspapers.net/archive/2012/10/23/story/gunshots-robbery-reported-st-helena http://www.islandpacket.com/2012/10/30/2262131/armed-robbery-victim-shoots-1.html

I began tying the risers together at the connector links with a pull up cord. Really helps keep the lines symmetrical. I haven't had an off heading opening since. Just remember to remove the pull up cord before ya put it in the container.

only if Alcohol and car owners pay the same tax. Both of those kill more than firearms every year. And since its America and everybody is overweight you can include McDonald's, Burger King and every other fast food joint in there also. They kills thousands yearly. And lets not leave out the swimming pool tax. You know how many people drown in them things every year.

I wonder how much of that is reality and how much is placebo effect. I doubt the theory is backed up by any science. I don't see how it's possible for it to enter the bloodstream any significant amount faster or with any greater efficacy. I don't know how effective it would be, but I sure as hell don't want to be the second person or after to take a pull from that bottle Well, the photo in the article shows a hose and a funnel. Presumably that's what is being used and the bottle itself isn't being inserted. Even so, there are a myriad of health issues with that hose. Oh yea, a myriad for sure. There is a reason why medical supplies get trashed after one use.

Interesting point. I jump a neptune and I watch the altitude as my canopy inflates. The altitude I'm checking in real time doesn't always jive with the deployed altitude in the jump log function.

Flyboy, you're gettting a lot of suggestions so I'll make mine. Consider a Para Ordinance if you like a 1911. I have a Wart Hog in .45 Its fairly compact and has a 10 round capacity.

I was on parachute manuals.com the other day a saw a service bulletin about the Swift reserve. It's attached

Just want to add that the larger Angel Fire Reserves, 246, 280 and 300 are approved up to 330 lbs.

I agree. Unfortunately, we only get to say the instructor made a "good decision" or he made a "bad decision", after the result. If he had pounded in his student and/or himself we would be saying he made a bad decision. I just don't understand why we question chopping any tandem canopy that is not performing 100%. If you have to hold one toggle at just less than 50% of full flair in order to fly straight, why in the world would someone want to try and land that?

Gwinnett Selling Guns Confiscated by Police
firemedic replied to CSpenceFLY's topic in Speakers Corner
Good one -
I gave up tandems in 2011 for medical reasons but jumped Vectors at a DZ I worked at in 2009. I was a new TI and I found that Vectors were easier for me to Fly than the Sigma.

The big question is.....what are we progressing towards? I think all clear-headed people know the answer to that. This is the million dollar question isn't it?

Not if your mother didn't breast feed you. Not if they dissed you or said something to you that wasn't politically correct. Not as long as you are willing to do jobs Americans won't do or if you were discovered due to racial profiling. Not so simple. I agree with all the above. It's Very Progressive

" ....................................................................... Yes! Fortunately, the adjustable QE Snaps (on tandem side straps) are comparatively easy to replace. As for the fixed QE Snaps on pilot emergency parachutes ... the USAF developed a solution back during the 1960s. The USAF solution is a screw-in QE Snap. Just cut off the old QE Snap (hint: use the biggest set of bolt-cutters you can find). Sure the screw-in QE Snaps are expensive ($45 the last time I looked), but you would need a Master Rigger to spend at least that much time to sew in new (fixed) QE Snaps. Rob Warner FAA Master Rigger Strong Tandem Examiner I did think of the separable QE hardware but I let the owner make the call since he would have to contact a Master Rigger to make this repair.

I recently refused to repack a PEP. The hardware for the leg straps and the chest strap were quick ejector and the return spring in all three of them were broken. Personally, I wouldn't use those harnesses. If a side connector were to come undone it could make a tandem jump go very badly. Replacing the side connection hardware on tandem harness is pretty easy anyway.

Police refuse to return guns to lawful citizens
firemedic replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Not unless you take liberties with the 4th Amendment. Your history shows a loose attitude toward constitutional rights, but that doesn't mean we all have to. There is no criminal behavior present if no charges are brought and convictions achieved. If you attempt to board an aircraft with a gun you accidentally left in your briefcase, are TSA agents allowed to confiscate it or are they compelled to allow you to carry it on-board? After all, no criminal activity took place. Or...are they compelled to cart you off to jail? Is there no middle ground? Actually, there is no middle ground, because it is a violation of law to attempt to carry a firearm on board a commercial flight. http://articles.cnn.com/2012-05-07/justice/justice_maryland-plane-gun_1_tsa-gun-weapons?_s=PM:JUSTICE -

Will Obamacare be Ruled to be Constitutional?
firemedic replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
I think the mandate will fall thus causing the whole thing to collapse. -
That is what was announced yesterday on NPR from a reporter in France. I missed that one. Hope their correct. One of the reporters announcing the incident said, "a man open fired with a semi-automatic machine gun." There's no such thing.
