Gran Torino......Pretty much every time Clint opens his Un-PC mouth

Good luck on your new job. Anyone who would fire a good employee for merely looking to improve his situation is probably not worth much as a boss. A good boss would have sat down with you and tried to see what he could do to keep you. Good riddance! +1

Video - Cutaway followed by hard landing
firemedic replied to Quagmirian's topic in Safety and Training
Lots of room for improvement here but I do want to point out one positive element I noticed. Her reserve was deploying at 2390 ft. Look at the pic labeled reserve handle in the post above. -
I bought my first Neptune in 2008. Used it for fun and doing tandems. 2009 it really started going through batteries. Issue with the firmware was reported. No worries. I bought a new one (Late 2009) cause I like them. No issues with it so far. Finally decided to send the old one to Alti for repair. Tried for a month to get in touch. No reply to my e mails or calls. Finally got someone after a month of trying. Got my RMA# and sent it in. Didn't hear a word for over a month. Started calling, E-mailing, etc. After 3 1/2 months got email saying they were having issues with their parts vendor. Said it would be sent in about 6 weeks. Over the next 6 weeks I got e mails making further excuses and some of the e mails were basically stating the same thing but sent by different people. Finally got notice it was on the way. Got it today. Installed the new battery (provided by Alti) It wouldn't turn on. Yes it was installed correctly according to the manual. I really liked the Neptune II but I will NEVER buy any more products from Alti-2 because of the customer service. If you are in the market for an altimeter I recommend you avoid Alti 2 products. Sure it works well but if you need service you will be VERY disappointed.

Edited to clarify Short answer is yes they are reusable. Popsjumper is right on the money. If they are worn then they should be replaced. They are a very inexpensive item in the big picture and could at a minimum save you the cost of a reserve repack. Since you're asking this question I would advise you have a rigger inspect them and act accordingly.

Obama pondering using executive decision on gun control
firemedic replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
I have no doubt that HRH Obama will use an executive order to do this. The only thing he is pondering is how to spin it to the public. What an asshat. ETA: Sorry, I'm just venting -

Incorrectly installed S-Link = Results?
firemedic replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in Gear and Rigging
Oh, and that's one reason why tacking reserve soft links down has a down side: It becomes very hard to inspect for prior rigging errors when the links can't be rotated out of the riser for inspection. I might well have missed the previous rigger's error had the links been tacked tight into the risers. ______________________________________________________ Both are very good points. It is difficult to tell and after debating the pros and cons I decided to remove the tacking so I could see them clearly and then tacked them back in. I just couldn't, with a clear conscience, sign off on a pack job when I wasn't 100% sure the soft link installation was correct. Maybe I'm being anal maybe not. I respect what you guys who have been doing this for a long time have to say so your input is welcome. -
Incorrectly installed S-Link = Results?
firemedic replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in Gear and Rigging
I haven't come across any incorrectly installed slinks yet I have found soft links (Aerodyne Reserve) that were not tacked as the instructions state. The instructions don't say whether or not tacking is optional it just shows how they are to be tacked so I tack them. I don't know, is it laziness on the part of the rigger or is the rigger just taking it upon him/her self to decide not to do it. I don't get it. -
I didn't say YOUR openings were quicker and cleaner. I said MY openings were quicker and cleaner. But yes, I do agree with you that they are different.
-
None, per se. I just like the simplicity of the semi stowless. For me, I get quicker cleaner openings with one and its simpler to pack.

Makes you wonder. If this tragedy had befallen one of their protests and 30 of them had been gunned down. Would they be "celebrating God executing His judgement on them?"

__________________________________________________ I'm very familiar with the process involving CPI and inflation rate to calculate cost of living increases. I was an employee for a Town Government for 25 years and we "Usually" received a cost of living increase. I've been retired since 2006. When the bubble popped the cost of living increases stopped. People I know who are still working have not received a cost of living increase since 2008. They are getting 2% this year beginning January 2013. I suspect my municipality isn't the only one in the country that has tightened its belt. In fact I suspect there are hundreds. The same thing is happening in the private sector. Lower raises, no raises, cutting hours, etc. To me its not the, relatively insignificant, amount the raises will cost but the idea that the rest of the country has cut back why can't our federal government. They can suffer through the lean times with us. This smacks elitism to me especially when our president does it by executive order. I suspect as time drags on if congress continues to accomplish nothing that he will use the executive order do get what he wants.

Any and all comments regarding this bag are welcome. Thanks! S. Call UPT and speak with Mike Maguire. He was able to hook me up with the correct size bag and I am very pleased with it.

It was a very irresponsible thing to do

I have a Wonderhog Vector manual in PDF. It's dated Sept 6, 1983. I think this is what you may be looking for. It's too large to upload here so anybody who wants a copy PM me your e-mail and I'll send it.

So then, following your line of reasoning, rationing ammo, periodic inspections, training and restrictions will stop mass shootings by clearly insane people? ETA: I think it's much more complex than that. Strawman. Didn't claim that. I'm not sure what you mean by strawman. As far as I can tell one of the main points of the article are the cultural differences. Clarified: I'm not claiming culture is the only or the major factor in gun violence but one of the factors.

This article is a few years old but it does give validity to the argument that cultural differences are a reason Switzerland doesn't have the same gun violence problems the US has. http://www.stephenhalbrook.com/articles/guns-crime-swiss.html
