  1. Damn! That looked hard even in the slow motion replay. I feel for the guy, but that just made me laugh in a funniest home videos kinda way.
  2. Air Canada seems to merely defer to the CATSA list of permitted and non-permitted items. It does specifically state that rigs are permitted in both checked and carry-on baggage. WestJet seemed to list more stuff specifically, but didn't specifically list parachutes or skydiving equipment. Probably wouldn't hurt to carry a print-out of the CATSA list in case you run into another security screener that's being overzealous.
  3. If you're doctor is female, then perhaps you could ask her to help you work out some tension...
  4. I should sign up for that mailing list, shouldn't I... I know there were a bunch of folks from Edmonton and Calgary that went down to Arizona only a month ago, and I think they may have been on WestJet - not 100% sure. Maybe this was just an isolated incident by a clueless staff member? At least, that's what I'm hoping. There's no mention of skydiving gear or parachutes in their luggage information.
  5. Do you have any details about this? Which airlines? Checked or carry-on? I haven't had any problems with Air Canada, so far, All I could find in a search was a few references to overly zealous security screeners in Canada, and in Sydney Australia from a few years ago.
  6. Short answer - No problem. Do a search. It's been discussed several times before and the most recent time was not so long ago. Besides, skydivers are travelling all the time. If there did start to be a problem, you'd hear about it on here pretty quickly, I'd expect.
  7. CSPA membership is CAD$84 per year for a regular member or CAD$97 for a member at large, which is essentially someone who doesn't have a home DZ. Last time I was in Australia, I seem to recall paying around AUD$33 or so for a 3 month APF membership to jump there.
  8. Isn't this thread a duplicate? That can't be a good sign...
  9. Well, since we're on the subject and it's the year of the pig, go here about three quarters of the way down, hit play for the Steve McGrew - Wild Pig Sex and get some real pig noises going...
  10. The word average may have ]many meanings in common english usage, but in statistics, the word average is a synonym for the arithmetic mean of a sample or population.
  11. Unfortunately, only the green folks have the real sticky stuff. I guess anyone else is just a pretender to the ooey-bluey throne.
  12. The average is the mean, and it's statistically very possible for a large proportion of the population to be above the mean. The average whuffo will tell you that skydiving is not normal, so why should a bunch of skydivers follow a normal distribution?
  13. Loose! I tell you I'm going to lose my mind from all the loose fingered people who don't seem to understand the difference between loose and lose. I'm not obsessive-compulsive. Really.
  14. Ever think of taking a photo of the chart on the wall? Use a tripod if you have one, cos that will give you a more steady shot. I used this with my friends when we were driving around some city in France (Grenoble, I think) and didn't have a map. We just stopped at a bus stop and took a picture of the map that was there and then navigated by zooming in on the little LCD screen on the back of the camera. We found the hotel in no time. Of course, you'll be able to go home and print out a copy of your photo. If the chart is too big for one good photo, then take several. Failing all that, maybe you could ask the school if they have a copy you could take home.
  15. Seriously, the best place to start, IMHO, is with your instructor. You *may* be able to pick up some useful stuff from reading a book and practising what you think are the correct procedures, movements and positions on your own, but you're just as likely to practise something that's wrong, either outright, or perhaps for the specific equipment you may end up using in your course. Skydiving is a relatively safe pasttime when everything goes right, but if anything does go wrong, do you really want to be confused by contradictory things that you've been practising at home and then told by your instructor on your course? Try to talk to your instructor and have him/her watch you do stuff before you practise it at home, then at least you can be comfortable that you're probably practising the right thing.
  16. IQ is an abbreviation for Intelligence Quotient. Maybe you should get them to re-check those results.
  17. A blazer is a jacket - as in a high school blazer. Flossy is new to me, but failing anything better, google is your friend.
  18. Didn't seem to like being told to have sex with Mrs chicken, either. He just walked up to the camera and waved his finger at me.
  19. That's wicked! According to map, that's almost where Australia ended up after Australia Day, 2002 If only we'd known and someone had been sober enough to operate the drill...
  20. Well, a DC-9 is apparently 27 feet high, but hey, there's no accounting for the intelligence of media.
  21. I think you missed my point. I really don't care whether it's extreme or a sport. I just like doing it, so who cares what labels do or do not apply. Blues.
  22. 105 out of what? Are you saying that you got 105% (which means that you got more than everything right, if such a thing is possible), or is it something like 105 out of a possible 3000? It makes a difference.
  23. Maintain good cardio-vascular fitness. Just as a well-nourished body will perform better, an efficient cardio-vascular system should be better at dealing with lower blood oxygen levels. That said, do your marathon training or whatever before you get to the dropzone. It typically takes 48 hours or more to properly recover from a good cardio-vascular workout, and during that time, your new and improved cardio-vascular system will also be busy helping your body recover.
  24. The video is flash. Just tried on my Linux box and got the same, but then downloaded the latest flash player from adobe.com and it seemed to work fine.
