Nothing to do with being a jumper. Kapowsin offers observation rides. Even then the observers wear one and get briefed on how to use it. They mostly wear a student rig, otherwise a pilot's rig if they sit shotgun. I figure if the pilot's gonna bail, you might as well. My other ride is the relative wind. -

What does everyone use for DV capture and editing?

I'd love a Sony PC-???, or an Elura, or one of them tall and slim JVCs, but the wife'll kill me if I went out and bought one. I've heard that Video8 Handycams are ok as long as I have a jacket over it because the wind will make the tape flutter otherwise. I wouldn't say just the quality or having 1394. I've see some of the instant feedback on color LCD and I feel as if I had tripped the flux passitor on my '92 Escort My other ride is the relative wind. -

By Velbon, you mean the 635? I think I've seen one (or some other brand that looks like it) set up with the locking arm facing the front. I assume it lowers the chance of line snags to during deployment? I'm planning on using a Stroboframe on my Optik with my Rebel X. I'll post pictures when the helmet arrives in Feb '03 (BoneBond) My other ride is the relative wind. -

Don't feel bad about still being on student gear. Everyone is the sport started in them. No. Absolutely don't! If you want to experiment, do it up high and in clear traffic. I encourage you to do that so you can feel the "stall" point in an emergency. By that, I mean say... you lose a steering line - it broke off or it slipped off your hand and you can't get it back. But landing is not the time to experiment! There's nothing wrong with practicing your flare (toggles) up high either. I still do that. It helps me ensure I have all the control ranges available, and help me judge the stall point because the winds might just be different. My other ride is the relative wind.

I use an eMac and I have a Formac Studio dv/tv which I use for capture. My camera is a 10++ year old Sony Video8 Handycam. My other ride is the relative wind. -

All the DZs I've been to don't allow any drinking till the last load lands. I think it's not just for safety, or to cover their butts in case of accident investigation ++, but also for their professional image. My other ride is the relative wind.
