I keep hearing that the average American actually voted for someone else. Not that it matters in that system. But many of the ACA exchange purchasers are pretty intelligent self employed people. The ones who likely don't understand deductibles don't need to because they are on medicaid. It must suck to live in a place where you have to carefully consider your health insurance before thinking of changing jobs. Or becoming self employed.
