Tornado sirens are going off... I can barely hear them
shaiziel replied to shaiziel's topic in The Bonfire
Actually, what I've determined to be the issue is that the new style sirens are omni-directional and this negates doppler effect. With the old style rotating sirens, you got the doppler effect and it was a lot more noticeable. I've never understood why they went to these new sirens. They need to change frequency or something that keeps them from blending in to the environmental noise. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there! -
Tornado sirens are going off... I can barely hear them

The most expensive tornado warning system in the US, and they can't even make it loud enough to eliminate the 2 minutes it takes to hear it and think "Oh that's a tornado siren" Weak! ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there! -
The series "Firefly" had some great one-liners. Probably my favorite scene was where a guy is holding on to River with a gun to her head. Right as he tells everyone "Don't anyone move or the girl gets it" the captain is walking onto the ship, unphased by what the guy said, and shoots the guy in the head 2 seconds later. Great stuff. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Since I don't work saturdays any more... (People in OK check in here)

I want to start frequenting the DZ. I got a lot of time in between now and my AFF and a lot of money to make. If anything, I think it would be cool to get learned in the ways of the packer. So if anyone on the board in OK (OSC or Airtight) would be interested in teaching, I'd like to start heading out their next weekend. If not, I imagine I could just head to the DZ and ask around, but I thought I would put out a notice to any of my local DZ.commers who might want to help a newbie out. PM me with details if your interested. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there! -
I've sprayed them with a removable shower head and found it to be a tickling sensation. Has to do with parts of your body that don't normally receive stimulation, especially from someone/thing other than yourself. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Perhaps someone needs to go about doing a trebuchet launch. I think if it was designed for more vertical than horizontal propulsion, it could be reasonable. Now that I think of it.... has anyone been launched by a trebuchet? ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

I wouldn't say that, I'm pretty happy with myself. Everyone could be different, but that doesn't mean they'd be better. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Thread drift... It won't happen because I don't pursue it. I don't pursue it because I don't see the reward as justifying the time, money, and effort expended to acquire it. I don't value it as highly as most people, and I'm gonna keep it that way for a long time. I got more important things to concern myself with than getting laid. I just don't care about it enough to make me want to get out there and try. Weird... maybe. While a large part of it is choice, the other part is circumstance. I don't have girls fawning over me and I'm not a charmer. I don't have any problems talking to girls that I don't have talking to guys. I simply talk too much and not always about anything interesting. Anyways ... it's not gonna happen. End thread drift. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Did anyone else find the irony in this statement? Sorry off-topic, but it always amuses me. Real pseudoephedrine. Sorry again. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Nah, I don't dance. I step on arrows rythmically. The only time I danced is, once again, the night I was too drunk to remember. Drunk bumpin' and grindin'. Go figure. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Bleh. After my senior year in high school, over the summer I started playing Dance Dance Revolution at the mall with a friend of mine (but only AFTER getting half-way decent by playing at home on his uber-expensive hard pads with the computer emulator program). Now if you have been by any arcade in the past few years you know what Dance Dance Revolution is or you've at least seen it. It's the little game where people stomp on the 4 arrows with the beat to a song according to what the game tells them. It widely seen one of two ways by people who don't play: 1. "I don't quite understand the game, but it's intriguing enough to make me stop and watch someone for a song or two" and 2. "That's totally fucking gay." If you play, and you're good, you like people from the first group because it makes you feel like you're doing well enough to draw a crowd. If you play and there are people from group 2 around, you're just waiting for one of them to jump on the pad like and start jumping around like an idiot so you can shove them off and tell them to fuck off. It's a social game, so if there are other players around, they will take care of that for you. My point being... Just because people think it's stupid doesn't make the activity or anyone who participates stupid. The outsiders just don't get it. Willful ignorance makes people dumb, and it's contagious. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

I'm a... ...mediocre to the point of being boring yet thinking im not until i RE-realize i am, over-analytical, stubborn yet forgiving, coarse, sarcastic, intellectually confrontational, self-defeating, mostly non-(I won't go so far to say un-)attractive, almost willfully social klutz, who knows it, and as a result, feels comfortable about most of it but only because they say I should, and slowly tries to work on different aspects of my character while constantly thinking it to be inane to try to change yourself into someone who you are not, thereby finding increased acceptance with myself until I think myself into a depression about how I should stop thinking so much, which causes me to feel like i need to re-evaluate myself to re-determine what i already figured out, nut. Oh sorry about that... got me going there. Uh, I'm an asshole. But I'm not arrogant. And I should shut the fuck up more. Short-version there. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Nah, I just give everyone a hard-time but only in ways like "Hey can you get me some change" to which I always respond "no" while I'm getting it. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Any particular thing will have at least one group of supporters and one group of non-supporters. Fact is, it's a place for people who skydive to interact with other people who skydive, when they aren't out skydiving. There isn't much bad you can say about it as being a forum. The only real point of division I can see is the combination of advice/ideas from many different experience levels being shared with people of many different experience levels. It's a valid and very rational point for people to use instructors who know the person's capabilities in person when it comes to consulting for information and instruction on various things related to them and skydiving. It's a forum for sharing ideas, not a training/instructional resource. So inherently, you have people that appreciate it for what it is, and respect its boundaries and limitations as an internet message board. But there are people on the outside of any message board, or even the internet for that matter, that see it as a potential hazard to newbies or anyone who isn't in a position to be listening to relatively anonymous sources about what they should and shouldn't do. Neither party is at fault, they just have different perspectives. More of what goes on here is bullshitting (not in a negative connotation) and idea sharing. You don't really have people (very often) trying to educate someone when they shouldn't be. (EDIT: I should point out that I just don't see it very often. But it's more because I consider myself to have a proper attitude and perspective about the place. Plus I'm in no position to call someone out for "teaching.") But there are exceptions and when you have a contrary perspective about the board, the exceptions are all they will see. Nothing wrong with that per say, but it doesn't mean the website is bad. It's not a surprise that there are people who could care less about DZ.com. Maybe internet socialization isn't their thing. No harm no foul. The only burden of responsibility is the forum users to refrain from doing things which are potentially damaging for good reason. I would feel awkward having a conversation with someone, perhaps bringing up DZ.com, and having some trite and unfounded comment made about it, if I wasn't doing something wrong like quoting it as the bible. So I can see why people wouldn't bring up the DZ.com goings-on at their respective DZ. You're gonna find people who don't like something you do, because they don't understand it or had a negative experience with it. Pick and choose your battles. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

This isn't news. It's by 90% choice, 10% circumstance. Let's talk about risk/effort vs reward. More time, more money, less bullshit. All things that I have in my life as a result. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

Men: would you let another man hold it when you pee?

I was so drunk one time that I had to be assisted to the restroom. From what my friends told me, the only thing that happened was someone undoing my pants, pulling them down, and setting me on the pot. I apparently managed to manipulate myself just fine. The good knews, if I don't remember, and there aren't pictures, it didn't happen. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there! -
I should also mention that you shouldn't be fooled by the fact I wear glasses. They protect everyone from having to look me directly in the eyes as doing so, may cause arousal, maybe more. It really is embarassing when you're talking to a guy and for no reason other than making eye contact, he starts making camp. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

You only laugh cause it's true. I've traveled the 7 continents and not found one worthy of the pleasure. Again, I refer to the guy that jumped off the overpass, and lived. He just jumped in front of a car traveling ON the overpass. Skipped the BASE jumping step. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there! -

See now this is why I posted it. My first impulse was to say it was shopped... but here is a voice of reason shining a light on a different perspective that I overlooked. It's conceivable. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there! -

It's not... but I haven't seen many other media types raise so much of a stink like she does. EDIT: about her image. And again, a lot of it is because I dislike her. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
