If your experience is going to be anything like mine was/is, things will get worse before they get better. My first year was pretty much a fog, my second through fifth, I was an exposed nerve. After year six things started to get better in a hurry. My suggestion is to spend as much time with others in the program as possible. Even if they can't relate to jumping (and most can't / don't / won't), they can help in dealing with the noise. Who knows, you might be able to recruit a few of them to become jumpers as well. As much as I hate the KKK, I have to agree with them on this. In their desire to harm the klan, they have set up a mechanism that harms far more and leaves those with a legitimate need to protect their identity without a legal means to do so. Bad call SCOTUS. Lake Wales was one if the finest DZ facilities I have ever jumped. Their physical facilities (hangar, LZ's, etc..) were second to none. They took a HUGE hit from the hurricanes this summer. Even worse, it leaves me with knowledge that the public safety is in the hands of the low bid gear, incompetent staff and camplacent politicians. It's been something of an adjustment, but not having a land line has been a good thing for me. I no longer have to pay for a phone line that no one but telemarketers call.
