On work dives I hope my student's main opens OK and I hope he/she makes it in for a safe landing, no matter how shitty their freefall went. Myself? I think about clearing my airspace enroute to my perfect swoop setup altitude. I also think about breathing; odd.

Right on, Wendy.

So, where's the pics, Amber?

Hey Richard, did you figure out what the cause of the spinner was? Brake come unstowed or something? Anyway, glad you made it though OK. As you stated, it's one of those things you just don't know how you will handle it until that time finally comes. I have been lucky to have only three rides in about 3100 jumps. Hell, ex-GK Neal Beverly went over 5000 jumps before he took his first reserve ride. Chuck

I have no idea and don't really give a shit; it's gonna be a good time, rain or shine. Actually, the weather is looking really iffy, but maybe we will get lucky.

landing a birdman suit.. it IS doable..?
SkymonkeyONE replied to kevin922's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Ah.. My RV is always set up for just such emergencies. Chuck -
Not the GB demo team, it's the USASOC demo team. All active duty USASOC guys.
-
We know all about that. What got us a "go" is that we are an active duty military team and we are using active duty military air support (a Blackhawk from here). It was still "on" as of late last night. We are staging out of Andrews AFB. Chuck

Since Friday: Rolling Rock, Yeungling, Coors Light, Miller Light, Bud Light, Crown Royal (a lot), Jim Beam Black (aged 8 years). Chuck

After that "incident" I let the brakes WAY out on her main so it wouldn't be so stall-prone. It flies OK now; I use it for AFFing army people out of military and contract planes (it's a US team rig). Chuck

Uh, StarTrac 1 for this one, thank you very much.

It's raining here too, and has been all weekend. That being said, if I start with Friday it's 4:2:0 4= the number of hours I spent in the wind tunnel on Friday morning. Saturday was my birthday (39th), so Friday and Saturday nights were ROUGH in Aviators. I was very surprised to get some very nice gifts; always a bonus! We drank a LOT of brown liquor this weekend. I wore my new "surfs up biotch" t-shirt last night; thanks TangoMonkey! Chuck

If you watch Monday Night Football tomorrow, you have a very good chance of seeing me and the rest of my demo team jumping in right before kick-off. It's the Eagles at The Redskins in D.C. We fly out tomorrow morning, do a practice jump at 3 pm, then jump into the game at about 8:55 pm. Anyone going to be there? We will be partying up in the club boxes after the jump during the game, then staying overnight in town. Not sure which hotel yet. Chuck

LeRoy, I hadn't thought about that, but it sounds logical.

Dave, too bad about the incident, but it sounds like yall are having a good time. As for your friend with no insurance, I recommend he claim indigency. My ex-roommate piled in down at Z-hills after he got out of the army and the VA and the state ate the cost of all his hospital and life-flight costs. At any rate, it is very unfortunate when someone goes in, but it is a risk we take every single time we exit the aircraft. I hope the man recovers fully and in a timely manner. Best wishes. Chuck

Glen, I use 22 and 24 inch ZP pilot chutes interchangeably with no seeming difference in opening "feel". Chuck

Pink butt? I don't have a pink anything, but Lisa does.

Jumping big planes is one of the bennies of my line of work. I have a LOT of skydives from C-130's, about 30 from a C-141, one from a C-5, and one from a C-17 (in Key West, Florida; well, actually Boca Chica NAF). There were five of us total on the C-17. I jumpmastered from the port side of the ramp and we chunked a five way. It must be noted that there is a pretty far drop off both the C-5 and C-17 tailgate before you hit the airstream, them BOOM, you better have good grips. Chuck

I have that picture saved as as the background on my desktop on my work computer. It is also the pic I cut my last forum pic out of. My current forum pic was taken at that same boogie. As far as what discipline Skymonkeys (we refuse to spell the plural version "skymonkies") participate in, it varies. I generally belly fly and fly my birdman suits, but don't have any problem on my head or feet; I am a well-rounded monkey. We are a social organization; nothing more. If there was one thing that applies to most "hat holders", it's the fact that the great majority of us hold instructional ratings of one type or another. We all freely give our time to help the up and coming skydivers on our dropzone. Chuck SM-1

Speaking of wind tunnels, I just spent four hours in ours this morning (0800-1200) with some GB club students and a couple of other instructors. Not a bad way to pass the morning. Chuck

I jump an H-mod Cobalt 75 and a Competition Cobalt 75 loaded at 2.3 and a Xaos 21 69.5 loaded about 2.41. I have only had one spinner, but that was because a brake came undone. Otherwise, I have absolutely no problems jumping either of these canopies with either my GTi or my SkyFlyer. I jump a nine foot bridle monkeyfist kill-line pc and pack my lines straight toward my back with the grommet sticking up. Chuck

Attention in the tree limbs! There is now an official skymonkey in Eloy. For those of you who have forgotten how one joins the only REAL skymonkey clan here is the poop: You must either party, jump, or jump and party with a member of the clan. No, you can't name yourself, and no, you can't have a hat unless you get it through me. Anyway, Betsy qualified and was named by my west-coast representative, Lisa, the MonkeyBytch. Lisa was the first person outside of North Carolina to achieve skymonkey status (minus my teammates Eric and Bryan who also got indoctrinated last year at Perris). Believe me, Lisa met the criteria and was thus presented with one of MY hats. She can have her own colors if she would like, but getting one from me is "special". That is all. Rock on, Yuri! Do some TRICKS!
