  1. The "five second rule" as we apply it where I instruct goes hand-in-hand with the "CIA" checklist on category C and higher. On a Cat A or B AFF skydive one is taught to wave off and pull if he/she finds themself in the air with no jumpmaster attached at all. With one JM you simply continue the skydive as planned. The "five seconds" comes into play on release dives. If you spin out and float up and away or somehow else throw your JM's off, then you give yourself five seconds to regain stability and meet the CIA criteria. If you can do so, then you continue to skydive down to the designated pull altitude. If you cannot, then you pull after five seconds of not meeting all three criteria, no matter what your body position. 2. I will be there Wednesday evening.
  3. We have a 4-door crew cab C-3500 long-bed Silverado dually with a mildly hot-rodded 454 (K&N ram air, Hypertech program, dual flowmaster two-chambers). There is no substitute for this kind of truck when you haul a 30-foot camper around. A turbo-diesel would have been nice for the mileage, but this truck goes so fast from zero to 100 that it will make your head spin. The leather interior, power everything, DVD player and thumping stereo (JL audio) make it a joy to drive. The custom billet wheels be lookin good too. Chuck
  4. I put my rig on in a chair. I unzip everything, then hold both the legstrap and suit leg opening together and put my leg through, one side then the other. I put my arms through the rig and the arm openings then I "hop up and down" until I am in the suit/rig. I pull the collar up around my neck then I tighten my legstraps to "ready to skydive" tightness, then I zip my two main zippers up at least as high as my chest strap before then running it through the fastner and stowing the excess. It fascinates me that this has happened more than once. In my gear check of fellow birdies I always touch the front of the legs where the legstraps should be. Chuck BMCI
  5. Hadn't heard that, but anything is possible in Alabama. If that's the case, then there isn't anyplace that is particularly "close" with one. Elberta or Moss Point straight south, Thomaston to the East, Cullman to the North.
  6. I don't believe it's open anymore, but Arizona Airplay used to operate off of the dirt strip at Sommerset Airport. I believe the closest option is just over the border in Cal City.
  7. Skydive Opelika is a two-Cessna dropzone located less than 30 miles from Montgomery on I-85 in Tuskeegee (exit 38 unless I am mistaken). Nearest turbine is Pell City. Chuck
  8. We did "the" memorial dive Saturday afternoon around 6pm at Raeford. There were hundreds of people in attendance. Someone flew Paul's family down from PA in a King Air. There was a service, some people spoke, then the list was called for the dirt dive. It was a 39-way wacker-looking thing with a 4-way donut in the center which we opened up to a star. One un-named person is going to hell for going low (not me). Paul's urn was carried in a box strapped to the front of Gary O'Neil in the center of the formation. Paul's brother, Bill, flew to the center and pulled out at around 5. People came from as far away as Thailand to be a part of it. More than a few people had to take it WAY down into the thick air to get clean before dumping. Greg Windmiller landed last with the american flag, then the military honor guard fired the volley and taps was played; it was very somber. After that, we all got incredibly liquored up and ate barbecue. I was up till after 4am and never fully recovered from my hangover yesterday. Driving three hours back to Augusta truly sucked last night. edited to add: We kept the dive to a 39-way because Paul's urn made him the 40th jumper. Also, Paul was 40 years old so the decision was made to keep it at that. There were enough world champions on the dropzone to have easilly made it a 60-way with the planes that were available. Chuck
  9. The line between flying and dynamically stalling at that wingload is incredibly delicate in rears. I have been weighted up for 4-way (with some fat guys) and approached that loading under a Xaos 21 69.5 (Aaron Comp's) and got a good "whomp" as the canopy stalled just as I was transferring to toggles. I can't count the number of times I saw it happen in the 2001 swoop season as everyone was just learning rears and piling in on a regular basis. Nowadays there are a lot of people who don't touch their toggles at all on landings. Once you reach the base level of proficiency/confidence at the task then they become much less hairy. Still, 2.8? That's an incredibly inefficient wingload. I am sure you make a lot of noise going through the air.
  10. There are many, many threads in this forum on the subject.
  11. Late October (Halloween) is the wingsuit boogie at Eloy. That is "sort of" centrally located.
  12. Which brain-fried-from-too-much-sun, friend of Nathan's did this? Jackasss.
  13. Who's Sabre2 stalls at chest level? Certainly not mine. My 97 has a very long toggle stroke.
  14. Tim Tennant on Team Paraclete has a VE 103 and a PD 113 in an RS.1
  15. Unless you watched the Flyers from the upper tier of The Spectrum back when Bobby Clarke and the boys didn't need no stinking helmets, then you have not been a fan as long as I have. It was fucking nuts back then.
  16. I didn't answer every bit of that in my post? David is neither a bill collector or a stalker and I already told him where to get the info. David, Chris is always on the www.roamingdz.com site, so ask him there.
  17. Relax please. He is trying to get a copy of the DVD he made of the Roaming DZ boogie to the man. David, I don't have any contact info on the guy, but you might want to ask Chris. He has all the waivers from the boogie Chuck
  18. I can't believe that we actually followed this show all season, but last night made me want to punch a fucking hole in the wall. Unbelievable. Jasmin sucks. Latoya will, if she doesn't already, have the best contract out of any of them though. Fantasia will kick ass once it's over too.
  19. I pull outward from as high up on the risers as my arms will reach with palms facing inward. Others push out with palms facing out. Others still pull down with palms facing in.
  20. Ask Lisa, I gave this morning. Fifty Dolla, make you holla! Chuckie
