Is anyone going to the F1 race in Austin this weekend?
SkymonkeyONE replied to IMGR2's topic in The Bonfire
if you are local and don't go then you have got to be crazy. F1 is a real treat. -
getting line-stretch five feet off the deck is not what I consider "well thought-out"; it's "sport death" . Deploying high enough to get a fully-open and functionally-flying canopy that you can fly to a safe landing is what I consider "plausible, not-too-stupid, and worth of posting on the internet in other than the "sport death" category. Jumping a round with no diaper would have made much more sense in those two near-catastrophic videos. Thank god for the crash pad at the low demo. No amount of sponsorship money, or lack of money, changes my perception of what I consider reckless and borderline suicidal. Chuck Blue, D-12501

I totally agree with Doug on this one. I've worked at three dropzones where we did handcam as either the only option or as a secondary option. I've done it with PC 109's, GoPros, and Contours. From plenty of personal experience I can tell you it's 100 times easier these days with GoPro's and Contours than it was in the tape-camera days. MUCH lighter and less obtrusive. I've said it before in this thread and I'll say it again: I'm totally cool with putting the ( GoPro or Contour) glove on the student. This assuming that, like normal, I've got plenty of time on the ground to give my whole briefing in the school or at the mock-up. I wouldn't put it on their hand at a place where "we'll talk about it on the way up." My students always wear altimiters, too and are generally always given the option to deploy the parachute.. Chuck

Extremely lucky and terribly stupid.

Dropzones that will take quadraplegics for tandems?

Skydive City in Zephyrhills, Florida and Raeford Parachute Center in North Carolina both definitely do them. -
Condolences for Chris Martin (GroundZero)

I'm numb just thinking about how many people in the industry we lost that year. Re-reading posts from dead guys creeps me out. Chris and Beezy were the best. JP was pretty damn cool too. BSBD -
I run my school out of Arizona now and I hop between Eloy and Skydive Phoenix in Maricopa. I've done this for a living since there was such a thing as doing this for a living. Holler at me if you want to do it in Arizona. I've got ten suits. Chuck Blue DragonFly Wingsuit School (9 0ne o) 2 seVen3- six2nine1 (figure it out) chuckATskymonkeyoneDOTcom

Driving between Los Angeles and Eloy in an RV
SkymonkeyONE replied to monkycndo's topic in The Bonfire
Too bad. I have all ten of my prom dresses here at Eloy. -
Skydive Arizona was slammed yesterday with competitors. Tons more are scheduled to arrive today. It's been a real "old home week" experience for me.

I like it. -
I was told there was a wingsuit fatality in Spain this weekend? True? Or was the fatality in Portugal in the Incidents forum that was a wingsuit fatality? Either way, what's the story? Chuck

Ask Robibird; he was jumping one in his wingsuit rig last time I saw him.

All Atair USA canopies were purchased in bulk by Bryan Moffet in Texas. He used to compete with Bryan Harrell, Eric Butts and I on the Atiar pro team. If you want a nice, highly-swoopable nine-cell, then buy one of those NOS (new old stock) Cobalts. Amazingly, I just had an old buddy re-gilft me my original Cobalt 85 last week. I'm gonna put it on risers and see how well it fly's. FWIW: they flew exactly like Crossfires. Chuck

Uh, I'm definitely not disagreeing with you, brother! You guys have been diving the shit out of your huge suits to fly with the terrain. I'm positive you can produce enough pop to gain altitude. This is nothing new. Chuck

That's my boy Rob Pelon crushing it. Fantastic shit.

I know quite a few people who have obtained AFF ratings with under 400 jumps. I'm pretty sure Mike Holding (Green Mike) got his rating in Z-hills with just over 300. Most of his FF time was in a wingsuit (which I taught him to fly on his 200th jump), yet he still possessed the "belly" airskills to pass the AFFI course. He did some pre-course tunnel work with Sally Hathaway which helped. Chuck

I've read the book several times so I was compelled to see the movie. Oddly, I never knew that they put out the first of the three-part series last year so I never saw it. I ended up watching it on Netflix in the morning before I went and saw part two at the theatre. The storyline is pretty true to the book in both movies. What freaked me out was that the cast of the second movie is ENTIRELY different than that of the first. Why is that? Am I to assume that the cast of the third and final episode will be entirely different as well? FWIW, the cast in the first movie did a much better job. From a movie standpoint, the second movie was horrible. Shitty acting, shitty CGI work. Still, I'm glad they are making the movies. One thing they DID do was tailor the content to make it relevant in today's world. Did anyone else notice that it's cost over $850 to fill the tank of that Ford F-150? I'm sure this one will bomb just like the last one did, but I'm glad that the final episode is going to get made regardless of how the film does at the box office. There were two people in the audience when I saw the second one two days ago. Chuck
