Short notice, but the first round of the Carolina District CPC will be held at Skydive Coastal Carolinas the weekend of the 23/24th of April. Official practice is Saturday, all day long and there will be both a carving and distance course set up. Competition seminar is Saturday evening after jumping. Competition begins bright and early on Sunday. Six rounds: two carving speed, two distance, two zone accuracy. Lyle Presse will be running the meet and seminar this time. Entry fee is $50 plus jump slots. Minimal prize money this time due to the cost of putting the meet together at such a late time. Remember, if you are hoping to rank in the league, you MUST compete in four of five scheduled meets. Chuck

So, you're saying you burned some garlic bread?

So, Kris, you're saying you burned a pizza? Nice DD by you and Phree the other day too; sorry I missed it. The ringer was off on my phone.

So, you're saying you burned some eggs?

Batteries! You will go through a ton of them if you keep your unit on and "searching" with any regularity. Thankfully, I don't pay for batteries at work.

Most small don't GPS's don't have topographic info loaded "stock", but some, like my E-trex Legend are capable of being uploaded with that stuff. The data in most stock, small units includes major roads, rivers, railroads, and occasionally some major powerlines. If you are really looking to navigate cross-country by identifiable terrain features you still need to carry a map. That said, I really, really like my GPS. Chuck

Why would you get flamed for posting something like that. Video is a fantastic tool for evaluating landings.

STRONG vs SIGMA vs VECTOR vs ECLIPSE TANDEM RIGS
SkymonkeyONE replied to foreverfree's topic in Instructors
I have to check myself here, because I just thought about what I wrote and it did not make sense at all. Pulling the cutaway handle on my Racer cuts away the main and releases the drogue so you don't have a horseshoe malfunction. The drogue on my Racer is attached to the D-bag and canopy exactly like on a regular rig and the large ring on the bridle (the drogue attachment point) is released by pulling either of the drogue releases or the cutaway handle. I have no idea what the hell I was thinking when I typed that. Sorry for the confusion. -
Yeah, wearing my old S3! Lovely.

CPC Carolina District competition info
SkymonkeyONE replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Well after much delay, I am officially announcing the first meet for the Carolina District will in fact be run next weekend (April 23/24) at Skydive Coastal Carolinas. Official practice will be all day Saturday the 23rd, competition seminar will be Saturday evening after the four-way meet, and the meet will commence promptly first thing Sunday morning. Six rounds: two carving speed, two distance, two zone accuracy. Lyle Presse will be up here delivering our course markers and assisting in running the meet. Just like every other CPC league, there is a $50 league fee that must be paid. I am not going to charge anything other than the price of jumps for this meet and there is not going to be much of a prize for the winner. This will be the first of five meets this year though, so if you intend on placing in the league you need to be there. More later, Chuck -

Now THAT is the kind of story everyone needed to hear. Every wingsuit instructor would do well to remember that story and pass it on to potential pull-out equipped first flight students. Still, I am not going to ding JP for his setup if that is what makes him happy. Food for thought I guess. Chuck

I have bought and sold two original Classics for $300 apiece. I don't think I would pay more than that for a used one no matter how good of shape it is in.

S&TA allows a non-Instructor to act as one?

Jason is right on that one. I have absolutely seen it happen at a very small dropzone. Is it right? No. -

You fuckers are killing me! -
You know, I didn't have any idea that's where they were putting the tunnel. I, for some odd reason, thought it was going in the back of the parking lot! The actual location makes good sense to me.

What's the most you have ever spent on sunglasses?

I have spent as much as $150 on several occasions. -
Quite right, but for what reason? Do you know? To my knowledge JP has never jumped anything but a pullout with a standard length bridle on any of his wingsuit jumps. Would I do it? No, but only because I don't regularly jump a pull-out. I am not going to tell a guy who has been jumping pullouts for 4000 jumps that he can't jump it on his first flight if he is insistent on jumping his own gear. I will recommend differently at least for the first flight where the possibility of the drag of a pullout causing a yaw in flight at pull time. Likewise, I am not about to go cutting my hackey off for fear of PC delay. It's not killed me in 700 flights, so I am simply not sweating it. A good, strong throw does wonders to alleviate what some of you are perceiving as a problem systemic with hackeys. Perhaps I will have a free-floating PC constructed for my next rig, but right now I am satisfied with what I currently jump: an extended bridle with a ZP PC and a lightweight hackey. Chuck

When I was doing my PD rep training three years ago, there was one lady that was in charge of cutting ALL of the custom logoed canopies they built. Like both the other posters said, the graphics are cut and sewn on as the canopy is being built. At PD, the graphics seem to be solid, but they are actually cut so that they lay over the piece they are to be applied to, excess seam overlap included. It's really labor intensive, but absolutely the the most bullet-proof way to do it. Chuck

But definitely a candidate for a skin graft at last year's convention! Who loves you, Macca!?
