Post your Hot Swoop Pic(s)
SkymonkeyONE replied to freeflydrew's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
those were great pics, bro. -
Why, exactly, you thought that would be OK is beyond me.
-
Never mind, the pictures are on the front page of the BirdMan home page right now.

Unbelievably, the weather is looking crappy this weekend. We had major thunder boomers last night. That said, I am absolutely sure we are going to have weather to swoop even if they can't do four-way. That should mean better participation, at least on Saturday. For those of you contemplating competing, but who just can't make both meets, give it a whirl anyway. Show me what you got! I am leaving home right now to go out and setup the speed course for everyone to practice. Chuck

Do you remember "Real" professional wrestling??????
SkymonkeyONE replied to f1freak's topic in The Bonfire
Don't let him get you with "The CLAW!!" Edited to add that I can still do the little "pre-claw" ditty he did before applying the move. It's odd how small stuff like that stays in your mind after all those years. Chuck -
Yes, I am an ass. Just ask my wife.

What can we do about Skyride?
SkymonkeyONE replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would not be surprised if it were not "the other guys" who is clicking your links. By the way, Trey, I am glad that your dropzone is not using the "skydive auburn" website you used to have prior to you taking over. That made the DZO of the actual dropzone five miles from Auburn very angry. Now that ASC is using that site, my dad, Buddy Blue, D-597, can vent his hatred toward Cary and his wife (who learned to skydive in Opelika.) The bottom line is that any DZO who fraudulently draws business away from a nearer, USPA group member DZ is just wrong. Chuck Blue D-12501 Raeford Parachute Center -
This is a picture of a Curtis Robin. The front window does not look the same as the one of the jump ship photo, nor does the tail. http://www.vam.smv.org/29j1d.JPG

Stop being a homo and take a picture of the suit and post it.
-
What am I doing? Running not one, but two swoop meets at Raeford.
-
Indeed it was! I recall the tee shirts we all had. We used BTFU for a long time.

I am married to a fellow dz.commer.

Will it be muddy? I just can't imagine being in Texas and it not being muddy.

Sketchers that match my freefly suit and my swoopy shorts. The only problem is that they are suede and they fucking stink very bad after pond swooping.

Scott left the dropzone yesterday afternoon in his BirdyBus. He said it was around 18 hours to SDC. I am sure he is there by now. He has all the demo suits we have, so there is no reason why there shouldn't be some serious flockage. Chuck

Mr. Guzman is a bad, bad person.
-
Right on. So long as there is a contingency plan in place (in this case the divers on hand with spare air) then I guess you are about as covered as you can be.

Matt, there is nothing wrong with what both you and Nick have stated, I wouldn't hesitate to jump out at 500 feet on Silver with my legs snapped up and my arms not zipped. My point was that I would NEVER consider pulling my LQRS at any altitude prior to ditching if my legs were already zipped in. Chuck

repeat jumpers--how do you know?
SkymonkeyONE replied to heidihagen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have been teaching all but one year I have been jumping (24 years) and I can't say that I have any idea whether or not a student, even a return student is going to continue in the sport. Some of the ones who show the most enthusiasm on the DZ just don't have the patience to finish their training. Others whom you would not consider cut out for the sport continue trudging along and work hard to get to the level where they can give back to the sport. I am seriously baffled by it sometimes. Chuck -
That wasn't a dig on anyone, Bruno. You clarified the one point that I was making though, that this event had "home town" slots as host. None of that is really relevant to the point I was trying to make about the water depth/ lead issue though. Chuck

I would never, ever recommend that anyone pull the LQRS in either freefall or prior to exit! Just to rehash what was in the other thread, if the exit order is given you need to get the hell out. If you are zipped up, exit zipped up and get safely away from the plane before you deploy. If you are not zipped up, I would zip my arms down to the elbow (if I had time to think about it) and get out. If you are already zipped into your legs, then exit with your feet on your ass. If you are not zipped into the legs make sure the leg wing is tied off or balled up and stuck through your air channel (Skyflyer derivatives). If I am in a turbine with my legs zipped in and the order to bail out comes, I am going to zip my arms all the way down and fly out the door, regardless of altitude. This, of course, assuming the pilot has given the order to bail out at a survivable altitude. Chuck

Sportbike rider/canopy pilot parallels
SkymonkeyONE replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Well that analgous to dropzones; maybe the USPA; having wingload restrictions dependant on jump numbers. Definitely not a bad idea in my opinion, as we have been enforcing one to the best of our ability since at least 2001 at Raeford. On the motorcycle riding side, some states have been doing this for over thirty years. When I was growing up in Alabama I was licensed to ride a motorcycle legally on the street at age 14. 14 year-olds were able to be licensed, but restricted to 100 cc's. 15 year-olds were restriced to 400 cc's, and 16 year-olds could ride whatever they chose. This was absolutely not a big deal to any of us, as we had been riding our dirtbikes since we could walk anyways. Again though, there was a system in place to let us gradually adjust to larger bikes; not just hit the street on the biggest thing we could throw a leg over. Chuck -
BASE #789 Jeff Taylor Killed in Afghanistan 'Copter Crash
SkymonkeyONE replied to base428's topic in Archive
Yep, a good guy. I took Jeff on his first wingsuit flight. Chuck
