Loosing the weight while in flight
SkymonkeyONE replied to TOT's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Some of you might be laughing at this, but I know for a fact that there was at least one top five competitor that was considering something like this in 2001. Chuck -
Loosing the weight while in flight
SkymonkeyONE replied to TOT's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
How about keeping the jokes to Bonfire, please? Seriously. I have been having to spend a lot of time lately cleaning junk like this out of the topical forums I moderate. I am becoming less and less tollerant, people. Understand that. If you do not have a legitimate answer to the guy's question, then please refrain from answering at all. Chuck -
Yes, you pull your slider over your stowed toggles. You never release your brakes until everything else is done: slider stowed or removed, chest strap loosened, arms and legs unzipped fully out of wingsuit, etc. You don't want to be rocketing around the sky in full flight with your attention focused above and behind you. You want to open, steer with rear risers (or harness) in a safe, uncrowded direction, then deal with your slider, etc. Chuck

To the people that thought it prudent to post nonsense answers to this very specific question in this topical forum: STOP IT! Keep the noise in Bonfire! Chuck

Some people might think this odd and "dangerous", but back in the '80s we would sometimes take a buddy's rig and hook his main up backwards as a joke. Seriously. You have to understand that most canopies were 200 square feet and larger and "square." The last time it was ever done to me I was jumping a Monarch 135. I swooped it backwards through the peas at Raeford no sweat. Definitely not something I would do to a buddy these days under a sub-100 crossbraced canopy though. Man, those were fun days though! "Slida-flappida" is a disease only YOU can cure.

Are you competing, Chris? Outfuckingstanding!

And I have video of his second jump on it.

That is a very pimp setup, my negro! Check it!

I totally agree here, Erk. I have a Cameye, but never saw a need to install it with the way I do my videos.

In the Xaos line, the 21's open much nicer (softer/predictable) than the 27's in my experience. The Xaos 27, though, opens nicer than any VX I have ever jumped. I jump video all the time with my Velo, but I don't wear a big flat-top. Chuck

That's a fantastic piece, guys. Very, very nice. Chuck

That's fucking awesome, guys! Very nicely presented! Keep up the good work! Chuck BMCI-4

Sally Hathaway and Martin Skrzypczak - Bodyflight TODAY
SkymonkeyONE replied to nigelh's topic in Wind Tunnels
Oh yeah, tell Sally we miss her here at Z-hills! -
Nigel, Katie and I think you need your pay docked for that display!

What are you thinking, Eric? I will let this stay here for a day or two then I am going to dump it in Bonfire where it belongs. Chuckie

I have three different pairs of skate shoes that I wear. I make my choice depending on what color jumpsuit I am jumping or if I plan on pond swooping. All have flat, easy-to-slide soles. My primary pair are Sketchers and both the other pair are later-model Vans. Chuck

what's happend to the wingsuit with no parachute?
SkymonkeyONE replied to honeyjigga's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's not. Not by anyone with the funding or sense enough to figure out a proper way to do it. This is discussed ad nauseum in the wingsuit forum. -
I was very surprised that Ryan got the boot this week. Storm needs to beat it. If that band is going to choose a girl as a frontperson, it ain't gonna be Storm; it would be Dilana. Still Magni is my pick as winner.

Shameless plug for Joe B. & MEL.
SkymonkeyONE replied to diablopilot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
My first removable slider from Joe was, unless I am mistaken, the second one he ever built. I have never thrown up in Joe's camper. I have been jumping my current removable slider from Joe for over two years without a single problem and would never consider switching back to a stock slider for any reason. Joe is my brother from another mother. -
Luigi and JC on Discovery Channel
SkymonkeyONE replied to BirdBabe1's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Not too long ago, though, because JC was wearing his PD factory team shirt on "practice day". Ultimately, Luigi showed some pretty amazing ability to deal with shitty conditions. Crosswind was 15 mph+; they didn't get a "real" convertible; he had to pick up his feet to clear that barbed-wire fence; JC literally pulled him into the car. It looked very sketchy, but they managed to pull it off. FWIW, I have seen them do very similar things on a BUNCH of occasions at PPPB/PST meets and at the convention. They really do make a good team. Respect. Chuck -
Post your Hot Swoop Pic(s)
SkymonkeyONE replied to freeflydrew's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have been having to delete a lot of chatter out of this "picture" thread again, GRANT (and Skimmy, and JP), so please lets try to keep the picture to bullshitting ratio much lower. Everyone loves to see the pics, but we would all appreciate it if we didn't have to wade through so much noise to get to them. I am considering actually taking every post out of here that does not contain a picture. That will take me quite a long time and make me very irritable, but I think it would be worth it. It might take me nearly a full case of beer to complete the job. No more chatter; show me the carnage (and the magical swoops). Peace, your friendly neighborhood moderator, C. Blue, esq. -
I have been teaching for a very long time. In all those years I have always put out the same info: -if your PC is out of the pouch, then any type of mal after that is a partial malfunction and you always cutaway before pulling your reserve. The only time you do not cutaway is if you have a total malfunction: -you can't find your PC at all -you found your PC, but you can not extract it from the pouch

HP landing on a( the first) demo jump?
SkymonkeyONE replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Safety and Training
And it's the job of the team leader and the local FAA rep to make sure guys are doing just that. Since you mentioned that clause though, I can tell you that I know a ton of people who are PRO rated on more than one size of canopy. I got mine (when PRO tickets first came out) under an old Lazer 7 250, but later requalified under StarTracs, SharpChuters and other "standard-type" demo mains. Much later, I requalified down to as small as my old Cobalt 75 and as large as the Sigma 370 tandems that I, then, jumped with great frequency. Still, the point of the thread is that it's important to use the right tool for the job. While I have stomped the 50-yard line of plenty of bowl stadiums, I would never consider doing it under an HP canopy. I would, on the other hand, jump one at a race track if there were a proper "runway" cordoned off. Cheers, Chuck Blue D-12501, PRO (among other things)
