Good advice... my pic here... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

Holy wow. I really, really like my new canopy.

ahhhhhh... grasshopper, when you can snatch the pebble from my hand... Confucious say, when canopy perfromance go up, margin of error go down. Never forget this grasshopper... we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got." -
Dude, you clean up real good! And your wife looks great! Congrats! That's a cool looking setting for a wedding, is it all outdoors? Best of luck! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

It's an 'old school' skydiving competition event, where 10 (usually) jumpers exit the plane in a free flown exit, and build a 10 way 'star', or round formation. It's 'speed' star because it's the time from exit of the first jumper to completion of the formation that they're looking at, and lowest time wins. That'd be my recommendation too... we bought a 'cheap' color laser printer... the print quality wasn't that good, and due to the cost of consumables, it was anything but cheap to operate! We currently lease a nice KyrocitaMita, the print quality is great, and the per page price covered by the lease is less than we can have color copies made for. I love Neil Diamond, and have since I was a kid (and that was a long time ago!), but have never seen him live... but I wouldn't pay a hundred dollars to see anybody, no matter how much I liked them! I have a couple of songs from his greatest hits album on my MP3 player right now... part of a bizarre mix of music that also includes Meatloaf, Van Halen, Eminem, OLP, Dashboard Confessional, and Willie Nelson. Most of the folks that build don't build to save money, because it really won't save you much, if any at all. They build so that they can explicity select system components that they favor, and have worked best for them in the past. Anybody that's worked with PC technology for very long will have dealt with some stuff that didn't work at all, or worse, worked but didn't work right! Unfortunately, when it comes to PCs, that's the nature of the beast! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

No. The box you have listed is nicely configured, should last you for many years (perfomance wise), and is an excellent deal. I've personally bought lots of refurb stuff, and have always had good luck with it, and likewise have had good luck so far with the HP stuff I've purchased for work... Need good cushion/support boots for jumping
bwilling replied to darkwing's topic in Gear and Rigging
I remember those boots too! I actually had some high top jump boots made by Adidas at one point too, but I'm pretty sure they don't make them anymore either... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got." -
IMHO, that's the best part of the Dolphin, the man behind it! I had a Dolphin 2000 for a while, and enjoyed jumping it, and always felt like it was a good safe rig for the money (and the kind of flying I did)... but Mike Fury rocks! Every time I've had a question regarding his products, he was quick to respond, and a pleasure to deal with! He really sets a high standard for customer service! That said, I've also been really pleased with the service I've received from Ankie at Sunrise Rigging, regarding a used Wings container I bought! Either will work, but the manufacturer (PD) recommends pro packing all of their canopies... if you contact them via phone or email, they'll send you a copy of their packing video, and you can see first hand the packing method that they recommend... Additional PD info found here "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

Dude, that's just rude! My mom always told us as kids, if you can't say something nice, then shut the fuck up. "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

Define good. Altico (the manufacturer of the Dolphin) markets the Dolphin as an 'affordable' alternative... it's a pretty simple design, a bit on the ugly side, and was orginally available in your choice of colors, as long as your choice was black! Newer models have color, but only on a select few of the panels. The older Dolphins are not very freefly friendly... depending on the age, they came with short riser covers that snapped closed, short riser covers that tuck tabbed closed, and long over the shoulder riser covers that velcro closed. I think all the designs prior to the current one have both the main and reserve flap closed with velcro. So they're not especially popular, because they're not very FF friendly... they're perfectly safe as a belly fly rig, but these days, who does just belly flying? They do retrofit the older models to current specs (over the shoulder tuck tab riser covers and tuck tab main and reserve flaps), but it's major surgery, and pretty expensive... but then again, you can buy a nice used one for next to nothing, have the work done, and possibly still have much less money in it than a comparable Javelin or Mirage... Do a search for 'Dolphin' in this forum, there's been lots of discussion regarding them in the past... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

What's your favorite plane?
bwilling replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In the early 80's, when USPA Nationals and the corresponding boogie were held in Muskogee Oklahoma, I got to jump the normally Florida based DC-3, 'Mr. Douglas'... not soon after boarding, they fired up the massive sound system, and me and 40 of my 'new' closest friends got to rock to Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Free Bird'. It was memorable. There was also that time that Jim McLain bought his 1956 Cessna 190 (or 195) to the DZ... I'd grown up jumping small Cessnas, but had never seen a radial engine taildragger like that one, and it was old, I mean it was a year older than I was! So when he offered to let us jump out of it, despite the low ceiling that day, I had to 'jump' at the chance. Two thousand feet later we're up against the clouds and going no higher, but what the hell, I was 'D' qualified! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got." -
Their riser, bridle, and pin protection is not well suited to freefly speeds and orientations... the subject's been discussed at length... do a search for 'freefly dolphin' in this forum for greater details... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

and if you call PD or email them and ask nice, they'll send you a copy of their packing video, and Scott will demonstrate their prefered packing method! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

How could anybody buy that rig from that description in the ad, and have any idea if it would fit? There's not a mention one of what size the harness is, or what size person it was sized for! Don't just focus on the size of the canopies when you're looking at harness and containers, there's two sizes you have to be concerned with... harness size, and container size! The harness size determines what size body the harness will fit, and the container size determines what size canopies the rig will hold, and both have to be correct for your body size and experience level for that rig to 'fit'. There's also no mention of the DOM of any of the gear, which is instrumental in determining the value of the gear... it's not just ebay though, I see similar ads in the classified section of dropzone.com all the time! What the hell are people thinkin' when they post these ads? "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

The 250cc machines are great starter bikes, but you may want to consider a used machine in that size, because as you gain experience riding, you will probably want a bigger machine one day... I heartily agree with everyone that has recommended the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course! I returned to riding after a very long layoff, and deciding to take the course before hopping on my bike was one of the smartest things I've ever done. It's possible that if you take the course before you buy a bike, you'll get exposure to the very bikes you're considering buying! I did my MSF course on the 250cc Honda you're looking at, and they had 250cc models from Suzuki and Kawasaki used in the class too... I've got a Suzuki SV650, and while I love it, I would not recommend it as a first bike... I think it's a little too big and a little too powerful for a first time rider, and think they'd be better served by doing some saddle time on something smaller and tamer first... It's a great second or third bike though! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

Here's one that I use... it's a nice piece of open source software that should do the job for you, and I thought it was pretty easy to figure out... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

Not the best pic, but the only one I could find... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

Nice work! Good footage, good music, and good editing! You even spelled 'You're' correctly at the end! Yay! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

That depends on what you can find on the used gear market... if you can buy a rig, jump it for a while, then resell it to downsize, and the total cost of that transaction is less (your purchase price minus your selling price, usually less after you've put some more jumps on it) than the cost of having rented gear during that same period, then you're money ahead. And you've had the same set of gear to jump during that time period, and there's something to be said for consistency in your gear, especially early on... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

Stiletto 89 ft² (1.80 lbs/ft²) the math's not that hard... "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."

Just switched from Pete's Strawberry Blonde to Mich Ultra - Ich!

and just what do you call the 'good stuff'? One of my oldest friends swears 'Milwaukee's Best Light' beer is the good stuff! She wouldn't touch a Sierra Nevada Porter with a ten foot pole! Taste for beer, just like taste for food, is a very personal thing... Me, I'll take the SN Porter! yum! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got."
