  1. i remember one day waiting for a load when one of the tandem students says "you guys are so cool. its like you have this peaceful little hippy commune here.". the camera flier turns around and looks at her and the rest of the load and says "yeah we drink smoothies, eat salads and granola bars, and burn thousands of gallons of fossil fuel everyday!". i started laughing my ass off when he looked at me and says "stefan you are an operator too (we both run heavy equipment) there is another 80 gallons per day.". she was rather quiet the ride up. i will admit i try and make a small footprint but compared to these huge multi-national manufacturing corporations a think skydiving ranks pretty small on the carbon scale. the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.

  6. http://www.coloradocyclist.com/product/item/RCKUBRXH this is my choice. hitch mounts are probably the worst ways to carry a bike. roof mounts do tend to catch more wind and can snag things especially on taller vehicles but are far more secure. http://www.coloradocyclist.com/product/display/80100/ both of these units are decent but i would recommend an extra bungee strap to keep the bike from floating as it catches wind(and they do despite the vacuum of a suv). http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/SubCategory_10053_10052_200362_-1_200280_200286 and if you are dead set on hitch mounts there you go. like stated before they tend to impede the operation of the gate. the swing away ones are far more expensive though. the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.

  8. im pretty sure that once you are off student status you can jump all you want "SOLO". the program at my home DZ is a little different so i am not positive. i checked the perris website and it looks like the extra $2000 dollars you are speaking of is not a requirement. there is some coaching, tunnel time, and some video if i am reading right. these are not required for the "A". as long as you have your proficiency book signed off you can get you "A" for $20 bux. so go take AFF and get some solo's in. ask around, im sure some coaches would jump with you and sign your log book for free or some beer. i did the same thing after student status. its a great way to keep jumping and getting to know people. the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.

  14. i think i need to get my riggers ticket to understand how these are made. is the male side of the grommet beat threw the webbing and then crimped with the female end. this leads me to ask if this is the case isnt there a better way? the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  15. i have to agree with skydivesg. i live really close to CSC (within 15 min) but prefer SDC. if you are looking for a full service facility SDC has onsite camping with shower house and laundry, swimming, liquor bar, wakeboarding, canoeing, and 100's of acres of forest and relaxation. the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  16. yeah the pictures were hard to keep in focus once i got really close. i think that you can tell that there is about 1/8 inch of frayed webbing sticking above the backside of the grommet. i am interested in what would cause the webbing to fray like that with so little use? has this been seen by other riggers? is it common with certain brands of risers? the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  17. i have already ordered a new pair of vse risers but am wondering if these are still good. i purchased a rig with older style velcro toggles and the seller threw these in with the purchase. i only put about sixty jumps on these before i had a malfuntion that ruined my main. these sat while i was demoing gear so i never really noticed the problem until i went to attach my new main this weekend. is this a big problem and what could have caused this. it looks to me that the grommet was improperly seated. also the stitching that holds the hard housing to the riser webbing was coming loose. the latter didnt worry me all that much as this an easy fix for my rigger. http://s63.photobucket.com/albums/h127/elysium2282/riser/?action=view¤t=100_2301.jpg the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  18. thats some good advice allison. i should become a competent belly flyer since i will be judged on it in the rating course. either way it will be fun. thanks stefan the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  19. im a fairly competent back/sit flyer and have done some informal coaching for other people. there is a coach rating course coming up and i really want to clean up my weaknesses before giving other people advice. how hard are the teeth anyways? thanks stefan the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  20. thats the thing my belly skills are mediocre at best. i have more tracking and head up jumps than devoted belly/rw. even if it cleans up my belly skills i will be happy but has was having problems taking high grips last season and wanted to work on that. if its not this time then next. thanks stefan the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  21. ok so it will basically belly skills and next time i can devote an hour and really nail head-up. thanks the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  22. i am heading to arizona to visit my in-laws over the next couple of weeks. i figured while i was there i might as well do 20 min in the tunnel. my question is is there a precursory flight instruction or can i just go in and start working on some things? i was planning on getting a coach too so do i need my log book to verify experience? will i be able to freefly(head-up)? i called earlier today and the girl didnt really answer that many of my questions so i turn to you guys. thanks stefan the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
  23. i am a fan of SDC as went though their AFP program in 2006. as stated before it is a more comprehensive program compared to others. once you do get your A there are some world class LO's(mike wittenburg FF, tj hinde RW) as well as the DZO himself rook nelson. those guys have pushed me harder and helped me progress my skills both quickly and safely. just my $0.02 the diamond can not be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.
