I've never been really impressed by Ikea.... most of the furniture is self assemble, and made of cheap chip wood. Some of the kitchenware is okay, and the candles are a good deal... meh~ When I was looking for a curio cabinet I checked out Ikea, most of the items were 1k plus for cheap shit (that I had to carry, load, and assemble). I checked out a local furniture (Z-Gallerie) store and was able to get a solid cherry wood piece for $499 including delivery. I've found much better deals for much better quality at plenty of other places. I know, I'm early. Pardon me, I can't help myself - I'm so freakin excited for Turkey Day. I get to see my Mom, and family, and eat all sorts of yummy home cooked food!!!!! The drive home is always nice too. I get to see the beautiful country that I grew up in, visit my home town and reminisce (I know I'm silly). Hopefully I'll see snow and get to play in it (I'll even volunteer to shovel the driveway for my Mom). Oh and most importantly - NO WORK!!!! Had this over the weekend- ummm ummmm GOOD! Curried Squash and Apple Soup 1 (2 1/2 lb) butternut squash 1 T olive oil 2 t curry powder 1 1/2 chopped onion 1 lb granny smith apples, peeld and chopped (about 2 c) 6 c low soduum chicken or vege broth 1/2 c half and half salt and pepper to taste Cut squalsh in half, peel and scoop out the seeds. Cut into 1/2" chunks. Heat Oil in a large pot over med. Add curry, onion and cook till the onion is soft. Add the apple, squash, and broth. Bring to boil, reduce to simmer and cook about 25 min (or until squash is soft). Puree soup, return to pot on med. Stir in half and half. Flipping sides (and personal experience) here.... I am divorced, no kids - started dating a divorced guy with a teenage boy. FEARS galore... Understanding that the child comes first - that means what if the kid doesn't like me, then the relationship is doomed to fail. Understanding that if the relationship progresses what is my role with the child. I am not the parent; I do not have rights to discipline, or give parenting advice. Boundaries are very tough here.... Having to give up freedom to make sure that both the parent and the child are getting everything they need vs. just being able to enjoy the relationship. Oh, and did you notice the TEENAGER part - peer pressure, hormones - WHOA factor! Don't get me wrong - I LOVE KIDS - have always wanted kids, but when they are not yours it's a very delicate situation. If people (regardless of gender) get into a relationship (dating / serious) the primary focus is enjoying each other. The additional "Child" factor tosses a great deal of stress and strain thus the focus is not there. If you are lucky enough to find someone with patience, understanding, and the ability to communicate their fears/stress you're golden!!!! If someone is not than you're better off waiting.
